Recapped: 02/15/2017
What happened: Rush cheated to beat Diamante Azul. Virus won a cibernetico.
What was good: The cibernetico was the one good match on the show, though it was overall better than usual.
Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel.
Match 1: Centella Roja & Flyer vs Ares & Guerrero Espacial
Arena Puebla, 02/13/2017

- técnicos
- Centella Roja triangular del solar Guerrero Especial (4:54)
- Flyer springboard dropkick Ares (5:18)
Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 16:47
Review: [ok] this match looked like something where Flyer might do some fun things and his partner wouldn’t be doing much. Instead, Centella Roja looked unusually spry at times, and Flyer was fine but forgettable. Centella is still no speed demon – the heel kick he used to set up his big third fall spot was so slow – but fun spots are better than no fun spots. Ares & Guerrero Espacial were forgettable.
Match 2: Asturiano & Black Tiger vs Rey Apocalipsis & Toro Bill Jr.
Arena Puebla, 02/13/2017

- Asturiano huracanrana Toro Bill (3:59)
- COR Rey Apocalipsis [Black Tiger guillotine legdrop to the ramp]
Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 15:27
Notes: Rey Apocalipsis was bleeding thru his mask after the finish
Review: [ok] largely boring affair, as happens to everyone in the Black tiger zone. Even Asturiano was less fun than usual. Rey Apocalispis about took out Black Tiger’s leg with a slide tackle, so I guess it’s fair Tiger about killed him with a guillotine legdrop. Referees pausing to count simultaneous pins on moves which aren’t being done simultaneous is never good.
Match 3: Lestat & Rey Samuray vs Disturbio & Policeman
Arena Puebla, 02/13/2017
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL
- rudos
- double submission (5:07)
- técnicos
- Lestat senton con giro Disturbio (4:13)
- COR Policeman [Rey Samuray walk the ropes headscissors] (4:49)
- rudos
- Policeman middle rope senton Lestat (2:15)
- Disturbio running knee smash Rey Samuray (2:43)
Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 12:39
Review: [ok] Rey Samuray looked liked a fun, energetic técnico team, so they lost and lost hard to Polcieman & Disturbio. It’s alright, I’m used to it. This was my favorite of the three undercard matches that I’m giving the same grade to because who cares about ratings systems. Disturbio had some good ideas and a double submission that he loudly directed Policeman on, the técnicos had some good team work and Rey Samuray did a headscissors that I didn’t believe was actually happening as it was happening. Rey Samuray needs to get out of Puebla because he’s going as far as he can here and might go father elsewhere.
Match 4: Fuego vs Guerrero Maya Jr., Soberano Jr., Star Jr., Stigma, Okumura, Pólvora, Sagrado, Skándalo, Virus in a cibernetico match
Arena Puebla, 02/13/2017

- Fuego Roll on Okumura (7:21)
- Pólvora running powerbomb on Guerrero Maya (8:51)

- Pólvora Super Pólvora Driver Stigma (14:43)
- Soberano sit down piledriver Pólvora (16:56)
- Virus Gori Driver Soberano (18:54)
Winner: Virus
Match Time: 18:54
Notes: Sagrado & Star Jr. was a double elimination.
Review: [good] I have a sneaking 2017 will be a year of Soberano coming very close to getting a big win only to fall short. At least they’re getting off to a good start: the crowd would’ve been thrilled had he pulled it off at the end here (at least when they weren’t booing Tirantes) and he almost nearly did. Virus is the right man for pretty much any situation, but definitely the right man to wrestle the last few minutes again him. The height difference is an issue, but one Virus overcomes by being so obviously skilled and quick to get the hold he wants. This match lack a strong story otherwise and the three straight DQ finishes were a bit much, especially when Star Jr. & Sagrado had no feud to cause a DQ, which is enough to not consider to rate it any high. Still, the action kept going pretty well, they got rid of the lesser guys quick, and all the dives looked good except Stigma’s dive, which is perfect. My opinions on Stigma are never really challenged because he doesn’t get much better. Skandalo didn’t seem that upset to be leaving and I wasn’t upset to see him go. Soberano’s one iffy moment was bailing on a springboard, but even that was a sign of improvement – the rudos weren’t ready for him, so he improvised into a normal dropkick which worked just as well instead of forcing a spot. It’s a good sign of maturity.
Match 5: Rush vs Diamante Azul
Arena Puebla, 02/13/2017
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL
- Rush corner dropkick (0:59)
- Diamante Azul press slam powerbomb (3:27)
- DQ Rush faked foul (4:46)
Winner: Rush (1/3)
Match Time: 9:12
Notes: Rush wears his personalized LIJ baseball jersey. He also seems to be borrowing some Naito quirks in antagonizing the ring announcer. Diamante Azul continues to wears the Cementos Foraleza t-shirt, one of CMLL’s major sponsors. He and Rush brawl right away.
At the end, Rush escapes the German suplex. Diamante Azul goes for the press slam, but is distracted by La Mascara on the ramp with a chair. Mascara never comes close to the ring – his plan is to just sit down and watch – but Rush slips immediately, and fakes a foul. The referee turns around just in time to see Rush selling, and calls the DQ. Rush makes it clear to the fans he didn’t actually get fouled as he celebrates the win.
Review: [ok] much better than the last match. I’m not sure Rush was wrestling any harder, but he was interacting to the crowd and seemed more into the match than in October. Diamante Azul is no great shakes. Diamante Azul is a big strong guy who seems afraid to make connect with his strikes. The third fall has some knee lifts that are clearly not close to Rush, and his big kick makes a big noise while missing. Diamante Azul also pulls up Rush on every pin, so Rush’s shoulders are never actually down. It looks sloppy, and it looks like Diamante Azul has never actually seen a Diamante Azul match or maybe he’d stop doing that. The finish happened silly fast
Match 6: Dragón Lee, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, La Máscara, Negro Casas
Arena Puebla, 02/13/2017
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL
- rudos
- La Mascara double knee smash Mistico (1:56)
- técnicos
- Mistico La Mistica Euforia (0:58)
- Dragon Lee cross armbreaker La Mascara (1:07)
- técnicos
- Volador backcracker Negro Casas (4:23)
Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 7:26
Notes: The only sign of Dragon Lee’s fight with Takahashi is a big right elbow sleeve; he had that wrapped before the title match. Rudos attack the técnicos right after introductions. No one on the rudo side seems immediately aware Mistico is captain when he’s pin.
Review: [ok] B-show speed run main event, going for the minimum needs to complete a match. There’s still a high minimum here, we got some dives, but they were in and out quick. Mascara standing in the ring blankly while Mistico put the La Mistica on Euforia two feet away was not good. Dragon Lee had a busy third fall, but it wasn’t much compared to what he’s been asked to do before. Still managed to fall on his head, but his headscissors looked better than Mistico’s.
