Diamante Azul & Rayo de Jalisco dives

Recapped: 01/20/2017

What happened: The new version of Revolucionarios debuted with a big introduction and a win. Rayo de Jalisco’s feud with Terrible was toned down; he got the revenge pin in the first fall and the focus was on Mephsito & Carístico (who have a singles match tomorrow in Coliseo.) Nothing else really happened.

What was good: The Revolucionarios match was the most watchable. None was really bad and some stuff (opener) was better than usual, but there wasn’t a lot you need to go out of your way to watch. People watching the stream were generally higher on the show than me.

Where can I watch it: It’ll be on my channel soon enough.

Match 1: Flyer & Oro Jr. vs Akuma & Inquisidor
Arena México, 01/20/2017

  1. técnicos
    • Oro Jr. moonsault Akuma (6:08)
    • Flyer springbaord guillotine legdrop Inquisidor (6:29)
  2. rudos
    • Inquisidor Buca Storm Oro Jr. (2:22)
    • Akuma Canadian Destroyer Flyer (2:40)
  3. técnicos
    • Oro Jr. springboard plancha Inquisidor (3:28)
    • Flyer Spanish Fly Akuma (4:06)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 13:15

Review: [ok] a solid opener from guys who normally aren’t that solid. Oro and Flyer didn’t try anything too difficult, but were able to go thru their normal offense without issue. Akuma was the most spectacular guy in the group, with his dropkicks (counting an Oro Jr. plancha, off the apron) being well timed. His new bike looked cool too. Inquisidor’s been rather bad in the increasingly rare times he’s shown up of late, but didn’t get in the way here. Needed a little more life but this was fine.

Match 2: Fuego, Pegasso, The Panther vs Disturbio, Sangre Azteca, Skándalo
Arena México, 01/20/2017

  1. rudos
    • Skandalo Driver on Fuego (4:32)
    • Disturbio corner double knees Pegasso (4:56)
  2. técnicos
    • Pegasso inside cradle Disturbio (3:34)
    • Fuegolock on Skandalo (3:40)
  3. técnicos
    • The Panther double jump dropkick Skandalo (6:08)
    • Pegasso 450 splash Sangre Azteca (6:36)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 15:12

Review: [ok] just barely an OK match, dragging much more than the opener. Skandalo and Sangre Azteca continued to be very predictable in their attacks. Sangre did mat work with The Panther to start, and even then it was a build to the usual hold Sangre does. It feels artificial when the same things happen ever match. It’s up to the técnicos to find an extra gear in these matches, and they really didn’t get there in the third fall.

Match 3: Tritón vs Misterioso Jr. in a lightning match
Arena México, 01/20/2017

Winner: Misterioso Jr. (Rosa Driver)
Match Time: 9:08
Notes: Triton won the GALLI belt to the ring.

Review: [ok] Not a lot here outside of the really great looking Triton special. Crowd wasn’t into the rest of the action and Triton didn’t have the best of luck with his tricky stuff. Still, I can’t remember anything Misteiroso did beside the finish. If this was supposed to be a one man Triton show, you’d hope for more Triton big spots and there just wasn’t enough.

Match 4: Guerrero Maya Jr., Johnny Idol, Rey Cometa vs Bobby Z, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora
Arena México, 01/20/2017

  1. Revolucionarios
    • Dragon Rojo anti-air missile dropkick Rey Cometa (6:14)
  2. técnicos
    • Guerrero Maya Dos Caras Clutch Dragon Rojo (1:39)
    • Johnny Idol moonsault Pólvora (2:12)
  3. Revolucionarios
    • Super Pólvora Driver on Johnny Idol (6:57)
    • Dragon Rojo Dragon Bomb Guerrero Maya (7:06)

Winner: Revolucionarios (1/3)
Match Time: 15:32

Review: [good] The introduction for the new Revolucionarios was great, along the lines of something CMLL might do for a big match on a big show, and made them come off as really important. And then they actually won! This never really got a great pace, but the really big moments (dives, Dragon Rojo’s dropkick) looked perfect. They did some teamwork spots in the second fall to get over the idea of the unit, while making the técnicos look credible. This was the best match to this point.

Match 5: Ángel de Oro, Blue Panther, Marco Corleone vs Felino, Negro Casas, Sam Adonis
Arena México, 01/20/2017

  1. técnicos
    • Blue Panther anklelock Sam Adonis (4:22)
    • Angel de Oro mecedora Felino (4:29)
  2. rudos
    • Sam Adonis scorpion Blue Panther (3:56)

  3. técnicos
    • Marco Corleone Air Italia Sam Adonis (3:06)
    • Blue Panther nudo lagunero Negro (3:10)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 11:50

Review: [ok] started off strong, but seemed to slow down a lot after the first fall. Sam Adonis gets a strong reaction and they’re noticing enough to play off that, though mostly just so he can be the fall guy in these matches. (The promos did a better job of getting Sam over the match.) Marco jumping over something to land his big plancha seems to be the new thing.

Match 6: Carístico, Diamante Azul, Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Mephisto, Rey Bucanero, Terrible
Arena México, 01/20/2017

  1. técnicos
    • Rayo de Jalisco crucifix cradle Terrible (3:33)
  2. rudos
    • Mephisto Devil’s Wings Carístico (9:44)
  3. técnicos
    • La Mistica on Mephisto (3:01)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 16:18
Notes: Rayo beat up Terrible and Bucanero after the match.

Review: [ok] this seemed to run long, and had the expected slow speed with Rayo involved. Rayo did a lot of comedy, which the crowd got into, and also seemed to take more of a backseat to Carístico this week. Mephisto/Caristico was more the big feud in this match. Rey Bucanero worked really hard, doing the bits with Rayo while also taking big moves from other técnicos. This didn’t work totally for me, but the crowd enjoyed it.
