Recapped: 01/11/2017
What happened: Negro Casas cheated to defeat heavyweight champion Maximo, in an outcome which is not setting up a heavyweight title match.
What was good: The fourth match is the only match worth watching. The Negro Casas/Maximo match was not much.
Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 15:24
Review: [ok] This match had Mercurio biting people in nipples and a doomsday device. I dunno. Mercurio was moving around well and it had a decent pace. It was fine enough but there was little extraordinary about it. Olímpico and Mercurio were better and more enthusiastic at delivering their own moves than taking the técnicos ones. I had to rewind the finish of the first fall a few times, because I could not understand Fantasy being defeated by a normal kick. Didn’t even look good. Fantasy didn’t have a good night. There’s far worse minis matches than this but this felt as close to nothing as usual.

Review: [ok] I didn’t hate this match, though I ended up finding a lot to complain about it. I had to check my video to see if I accidentally turned on double speed, because this was another one where they seemed to be moving around fast. Multiple times during this match, I glanced at the screen and was confused why Raziel’s mask looked slightly off. Grako identified himself with his lesser amount of skills, but it’s so weird (and so CMLL) to have him in an Cancerbero-like outfit without thinking about how confusing it’ll be. Someday, all the rudos will be devils and all the técnicos will be saints and they’ll be able to interchange them all without anyone noticing. Today, Oro Jr. leading Grako through spots was as bad an idea as it sounds. Robin missed his senton by a lot, and didn’t mesh well with Disturbio, who was otherwise the best guy in this match.
Match 3: Blue Panther Jr., Pegasso, Stigma vs Forastero, Okumura, Virus
Arena México, 01/10/2017
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL

- Okumura STF Blue Panther Jr. (7:04)

- Blue Panther Jr. nudo lagunero Virus (3:13)

- Okumura hanging DDT Stigma (3:36)
- Pegasso powerbomb Forastero (3:48)
Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 14:05
Review: [ok] Normal middle match. Virus’ surprise headscissors was the most interesting part of this. Forastero was clearly bugged by his bad knee. He grabbed it after taking the dive in the second fall, and then was having trouble putting weight on the leg running in the third fall. The last two falls flew by.
Match 4: Dragón Lee, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Ephesto, Hechicero, Niebla Roja
Arena México, 01/10/2017

- Dragon Lee top rope double stomp Hechicero (6:30)
- Stuka running swinging neckbreaker Niebla Roja (6:33)
- rudos
- Niebla Roja Furia Roja Dragon Lee (5:36)
- técnicos
- Ephesto shoulderbreaker Stuka (5:54)
- Hechicero conjuro Titan (5:58)
Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 18:07
Notes: Hechicero ended up near the announce desk at the start of the third fall, where he and Rey Bucanero argues about their soccer teams and the outcome of their match.
Review: [good] Very fun trios match, better than 90% of the stuff on Tuesday shows the last few months. Titan and Hechicero are favorites, so it’s no surprise I really liked their interactions. The first fall opening back and forth seemed especially well done. Niebla Roja was more of a surprise. Dragon Lee mentioned on +LuchaTV’s podcast that he felt Niebla Roja was underrated. I wonder if that interview came after this match, because they meshed well working together. Roja took the big bump for the headscissors and brought out moves he hasn’t been doing lately. (The two had a non-title singles match in November in Coliseo that’ll air in a eight to nine weeks if CMLL Retro stays with it, and I wonder how that went.) I think this match could’ve been a little better in the pre-comeback part of the third fall, but the crowd really got back into once the técnicos turned around so maybe it was OK. Stuka’s smaller eye holes are disconcerting, like the shape of his head has changed suddenly. Pompin was counting very slow, even for him, and a pinfall near the end got screwed up in the process. Niebla Roja had to fight off Pompin from awarding him the fall when Pompin surely knew that wasn’t the finish. He also called Hechicero’s conjuro a submission, which it never has been to this point.
Match 5: Máximo Sexy vs Negro Casas
Arena México, 01/10/2017
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL
- Máximo half crab (1:38)
- Negro Casas casita (1:22)
- Negro Casas foul (3:56)
Winner: Negro Casas (2/3)
Match Time: 6:56
Notes: This was billed as a normal match everywhere except CMLL’s only preview, which listed it as a lightning match. It was three falls anyway.
Review: [ok] A sufficient but slight match between the two veterans. They got a lot out of doing little, but also didn’t really camouflage they were doing little. (It feels unfair to the last match to rate this one good too, which is maybe more a problem with my grading than the match.) This was the usual short short long style singles match, only the third fall wasn’t particularly long. The clothesline fight was entertaining, but only Negro Casas completists need to watch this one. At least it won’t take long.
Match 6: Atlantis, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
Arena México, 01/10/2017
Video: VideosOficialesCMLL
- Guerreros
- Gran Guerrero & Euforia double submission Mistico & Volador (5:00)
- técnicos
- Atlantis casadora cradle Gran Guerrero (1:16)
- Mistico casadora cradle Euforia (1:16)
- Guerreros
- Último Guerrero pulpo Guerrero Mistico (4:22)
Winner: Guerreros (1/3)
Match Time: 10:38
Review: [ok] fine enough main event that wasn’t on the level of what they’d do in this match on a Friday night. Mistico played to the crowd well enough to get a wave going and was the star of this match. It seemed like an error for Mistico not to even get a near fall against Último Guerrero in the final exchange; UG wrapped up quick like he had somewhere else to be. Still, this was slightly better than usual for a Tuesday final.
