Dragon Lee shows up in NJPW, CMLL to WM weekend

apparently you can say hello with a German suplex

Dragon Lee showed up this morning on NJPW’s New’s Year Dash show, attacking Hiromu Takahashi (Kamaitachi.) He wants a shot at Takahashi’s IWGP Junior Championship and sounds like he’ll get it at FantasticaMania. I keep on figuring that Dragon Lee’s travels are going to be a big lucha libre story of 2017.

FantasticaMania lineups will be out by 11pm tonight.

Sangre Azteca was one of the guests on last night’s CMLL Informa, revealing he’ll soon be out three months with dental issues. That’s some messed up teeth. In less mentioned disappearance of midcards, Starman hasn’t been on a CMLL show since October 4. He appears to be taking indie bookings, so he’s likely outside of CMLL now.

On the same Informa, Puma & Tiger tried to find out when he and his family were getting the trios title shot and got no answers. Alfredo has a bigger recap of this and the latest En+Carados podcast in the Lucha Report.

Sam Adonis & Ultimo Guerrero versus Mistico & Stuka Jr. will take place on 04/01 (Saturday) in Orlando. I believe it’s the noon show listed here, part of the many shows happening around WrestleMania. This is the same Saturday night as the ROH, who’ve said they’ll have CMLL people on this show. It’s possible the CMLL guys could double up there, but my impression is those at least started as separate deals.

At yesterday’s AAA media day, Pagano said he’d like new challenges, like challenging Texano for his title. Given how hard AAA’s pushed Pagano in the last year and Texano’s lack of things to do, that would make the most sense and is something they could easily set up at Guerra de Titanes. (That’s still two weeks away.) And then all the rudos and tecnicos there ate a meal together, which seems weird but OK.

AAA’s posted the full Psycho Clown & Dr. Wagner guest appearance on the holiday edition of Zona Ruda. This is a good idea for AAA to post; for years, one of the most viewed videos on my channel was a Televisa Deportes talk show with luchadors discussing the state of lucha libre.

Vaquerita says she wants a title match with Zeuxis and plans to change her look soon.

Lucha Memes says there will be a CMLL title match on their next show.

TKD and CultIcon review this week’s Lucha Underground.

Segunda Caida reviews Bandolero & DJ Z vs Skayde Jr. & Gringo Loco.

Lineups

AULL (SAT) 01/14/2017 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Princesa Mexica & Starcross vs Dragón Force & Prehispanic
2) Cometa, Juan el Ranchero, Súper Panda vs Diva Salvaje, El Caporal, Juana La Loca
3) Epitafio, Leviatham, Samael, Tormento vs Dante, Euro, Filder, Holkan
4) Diosa Atenea © vs Keneisha Moon [WWS WOMEN]
5) Ángel Del Amor, Mr. Potro, Rocky Santana vs Ángel o Demonio, León Rojo, Ovett
6) Emperador Azteca & Flamita vs Sádico & Yoruba © [AULL TAG]
first defense

There’s little change this is going to turn up, but the main event has a) the people who were last tag team champions defending the belt without some sort of phantom change and b) Flamita versus his best indie rival, Sadico.

The WWS Women’s championship is the most logically built up title in Mexico.

  1. I thought Zona Ruda was ok. I like the idea of a talk/mag format, but listening to the same two guys talk for almost an entire hour about their match was kind of tiring at some point.

They kept repeating the same things and showing the same clips. This show would be better giving different segments to different wrestlers and feuds instead of dedicating an entire show to one feud.

The interesting thing is that the duration/running time is over 50 minutes. That means people watching on UTDN don’t have to deal with lots of commercials.

I’m hoping to see Zona Ruda get on in the United States breaking the AAA absence on US Spanish-language television.
