AAA

AAA TV (FRI) 01/27/2017 Gimnasio Agustín Millán, Toluca, Estado de México
1) Dinastía, Lanzeloth, Máscara de Bronce vs El Apache, Mini Psycho Clown, Soul Rocker
2) Big Mami & Faby Apache vs Goya Kong & Lady Shani
3) Aerostar, Argenis, Drago vs Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr., Súper Fly
4) Angélico, Australian Suicide, Garza Jr. vs Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Zorro
5) Daga, Joe Lider, Pentagón Jr. vs Dave The Clown, Monsther Clown, Murder Clown
6) Hijo del Fantasma, Psycho Clown, Texano Jr. vs Dr. Wagner Jr., El Mesías, Pagano

Air Date: I don’t want to make the 2017 chart yet, but let’s say 02/11 & 02/18.

This taping was actually mentioned on this week’s AAA TV, but I wasn’t paying close enough attention to the recap show and no one else picked up on it. Lineup was posted on an AAA Toluca page, and AAA’s officially announced it since I noted it on Twitter. AAA traditionally runs shows in Toluca and Ecatepec early in the year. They held off Toluca until March last year, but are back on a more normal schedule.

This follows Guerra de Titanes and implies not a lot is going to be changed by that card. The two titles could change hands without affecting anything, but the the caravan is staying on the same general path. Maybe Fantasma might finally admit he’s a tecnico by this point. AAA’s 2016 TV was boring and repetitive in between big shows, and this

The main event is nearly a repeat of the Guerra de Titanes main event, only with Fantasma in for Parka (so it’ll be a better match.) Perhaps Texano might have a title program by this point.

Dave the Clown is a semimain guy because he had a clown gimmick and is tall and it was easier to let him use him than give anyone else a clown gimmick. Or at least that’s what it comes off as. The good thing is it keeps him away from catching flyers for this show, though the Perros are going to have their work cut out for them. This is a rematch from Juarez, where the Perros won but got beat up afterwards. It probably won’t go any better for them here.

The positive is there are matches which actually have a chance to be good, and that’s a change from a lot of recent AAA TV. Match 2 has no hope – I called the Goya/Mami feud – but 1/3/4 all might work out. Garza Jr. looks like the 2017 replacement for Jack Evans, after he was the 2016 replacement for Fenix. Both are asking a lot and I’m not sure he’s really delivered in AAA yet, but I can see what they’re going for. Tercera is the new Aerostar, Argenis, Drago trio against some familiar opponents. That’s probably also building up the Aerostar/Super Fly rematch, unless AAA pulls a surprise and puts Carta Brava in there or something like that. The show opening with young high flyers against good opponents. Mini Psycho Clown challenged Dinastia back in October, and AAA’s found time to include three other title matches with no particular build or reason to exist since. Maybe they’ll get around to it by June? I shouldn’t complain, this is more than what we’ve gotten for the last couple months.

Back to back weekends of tapings means AAA is either changing the way they air these things (unlikely) or they’re going to have another big (three week-ish) break before the next set.

great match roundup, week of 2016-12-17

Titan leaps into trouble

do you like recaps of mediocre CMLL shows? I have the content for you.

This is late and slight. I used all the extra time to do nothing in particular. Infierno en el Ring counts as next week. AAA was Star Battle, already recapped once but the grades will turn up again.

Team Mascara took falls 1/2, Mascara beating Volador with his own finish cleanly in the second. Mascara demanded a title match next week.

This show was packed. It looked full. There were people seated in the bleachers behind the entrances, which are very rarely even used. It’s most likely the holiday week causing it, but it was still a good night.

CMLL never listed the title match on their website, but it was on the poster the arena sent out that afternoon. It was probably always booked but didn’t make the website due to the oversight. (Though, they updated the website to list Gran Guerrero, but still didn’t put in that match.) It’s hard to figure who will eventually beat Dalys at this point. Maybe Estrellita? Maybe Marcela just gets fails in a lot of challenges before beating her?

Mr. Niebla missed this show and was taken off all cards. Niebla appeared to be quietly suspended almost all of November, made it back for four matches, and has been quietly suspended again. Cavernario will again replace him on Friday, and Bucanero is in his spot on Sunday.

Today’s CMLL show is a show that doesn’t seem to have any purpose to exist. They didn’t run any feuds last week and might not this week. Might have a good match or two. The main event is Atlantis, Maximo and Valiente versus Mephisto, Ephesto, and Gran Guerrero. The semimain is Guerrero Maya, Johnny Idol and Rey Cometa against Bobby Z, Sam Adonis and Vangellys, which looks like the best match on the show. The lightning match was Puma versus The Panther, but is now Puma versus Okumura. It’s unclear why CMLL couldn’t find another tecnico for that spot, but there are less people around than usual. The women return to the tercera spot, with Vaquerita wrestling her first match unmasked. She teams with Estrellita & Marcela against Amapola, Comandante and the woman who unmasked her, Zeuxis. Magia Blanca, Oro Jr., and Stigma fight Arkangel, Inquisidor and Canelo Casas, in his first match here in a couple months. Acero & Fantasy versus Pequeno Nitro & Pequeno Violencia open the show, and that match doesn’t seem any good.

The show will air on CMLL’s YouTube at 7:30pm. CMLL’s own preview is only slightly more exciting than mine.

My schedule is a bit all over the place the next two weeks; posts may be up at weird times or not at all.

Black Terry & Negro Navarro are set to be guests on CMLL Informa tomorrow.

CultIcon starts counting down his top 50 luchadors of the year, with 41-50.

LuchaWorld has this week’s Poster-Mania and this week’s Lucha Report.

Lineups

The Crash (SAT) 01/21/2017 Auditorio de Tijuana, Tijuana, Baja California
1) Black Danger © vs Arkángel Divino [The Crash JUNIOR]
Ultimo Maldito & Mirage are the seconds. Third defense.
2) Ángel Metálico, Black Boy, Oraculo vs Douglas James, Tiago, Tony Casanova
3) Jack Evans & Rey Horus vs Bestia 666 & Mr. 450
4) Flamita © vs AR Fox [The Crash CRUISER]
second defense
5) La Máscara vs Brian Cage vs Willie Mack vs Jeff Cobb
6) Fénix El Rey, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy vs Juventud Guerrera, Nicho el Millionario, Súper Crazy

Full card for the show after many of the names were teased. These shows have streamed on their website the last couple times out, though there’s no telling if they’ll do it again until the day of the show. Main event should be an easy good match. Jeff Cobb’s been in some weird matches to this point and might stand a better chance in this one. La Mascara being the only CMLL wrestler on the show is surprising. Flamita/AR Fox should be great, as should be the Jack/Horuz vs Bestia/450 match. Opener is a chance for Arkangel to show if he can put together a match when his normal opponent isn’t in the match.

PROESA was a repeat. AAA is in best of mode, with the only new material being holiday bumpers. (I wonder if Drago’s still champ because they had already filmed all these bumpers with Drago and his tag title?) It’s still there, but not broken down by match.
