CMLL (TUE) 11/01/2016 Arena México [CMLL, MedioTiempo, SuperLuchas]
1) Apocalipsis & Espanto Jr. b Bengala & Robin
Rudos took 1/3
2) Acero, Fantasy, Shockercito b Demus 3:16, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico
Tecnicos took 1/3
3) Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Sanely b La Comandante, La Seductora, Metálica
Tecnicas took 2/3.
4) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Valiente b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
Tecnicos took 2/3.
5) Hechicero b Rey Bucanero © [NWA LH]
Hechicero took falls 2/3 to win the title, surviving a piledriver and submitting Rey to his rolling half crab. Bucanero falls on his fourth defense. Hechicero is the 6th/71st champion, and this is his first CMLL championship.
6) Diamante Azul, Máscara Dorada, Mistico b Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto © [MEX TRIOS]
Rudos took 2/3. Eighth defense for the Hijos del Infierno
I only saw the finish of the fifth match, but that match was said to be pretty good, with Bucanero looking better than on the Anniversary show and Hechicero being great. It’s really great to see Hechicero rise to being a world champion; he had to give up his life and restart from the bottom to make it in CMLL, and he’s doing it.
I wonder if Hechicero’s success will have any effect on the career decision of other indie stars; we’ve seen with WWE that both the success of indie wrestlers and WWE’s increased appreciation for those who work a different style has led to more people of that type getting brought into WWE. In CMLL, I don’t think it’s ever been as much a barrier to entry as an disinterest in going – you’re giving up money in the short term at least if you start from the bottom and there’s no guarantee you’ll get beyond that point, but Hechicero is proof that it could work out. (At the same time, the indie scene seems as strong, at least on given it’s scale.)
Gran Metalik was listed as one of the stars appearing on WWE’s new 205 Live show, a cruiserweight focused hour show on the WWE Network. The show is scheduled to premiere on 11/29 and it’d make sense if Metalik returned to WWE on that date, but Metalik’s given no definite indication of when he’s finishing in CMLL.
Today’s Lucha Underground is episode 9 of 40, “Loser Leaves Lucha.” It’s one of two episodes remaining before Aztec Warfare 3. Matches announced:
- Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Son of Havoc – a stipulation will be announced
- Matanza (c) vs the winner of a Dial of Doom spin, for the Lucha Underground championship
- Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Chavo Guerrero Jr., loser leaves Lucha Underground (video clip)
It’s not in the preview, but there will also be a match announced for next week.
If you’re a person living in Mexico who changed their clocks on Sunday, the stream you’re used to watching will be one hour earlier than usual.
My recap won’t be up until Thursday evening. I may actually watch the HD version this week.
Lucha Underground announced Saturday’s show in San Diego/Escondido will have Angelico vs Johnny Mundo in a street fight as the noon main event, and the Mack versus King Cuerno in a two out of three falls match as the 3 pm main event. Everyone but Mundo hasn’t been on of these yet, and Mundo’s been on all the shows and done all the meet and greets too. These shows are a home game for Fenix now but he’s not among those advertised (Drago, Aerostar, Ivelisse, Jack Evans, Paul London, Mil Muertes, Taya); it could be because he’s out hurt anyway or because he still seems to be in Mexico at the moment. I think it’ll be a positive sign if he makes an appearance on this show, and not for sure a negative one if he doesn’t.
RealHero has uploaded the full Star Battle show to Google Drive. I added it to the lucha recap backlog.
11/16 DTU will have a main event of Volador Jr., Flamita, Crazy Boy versus Negro Casas, Ronnie Mendoza, Draztick Boy. It’s in Celaya, so it’s unlikely we’ll see that match complete, but +LuchaTV seems to be covering it for highlights.
Chairo 6 on 11/27 in Arena Naucalpan
1) Memes Rumble (Alberto Dos Rios + 21 surprise luchadors)
2) Hechicero vs Caifan – two out of three falls
(8 matches total)
+LuchaTV posted the complete Maximo vs Demasiado hair match from the Chariro Xalapa show. It also looks like they’re starting a YouTube podcast. Please give me an RSS feed. It’s all I ask. (I actually ask for a lot more than that.)
AAA has photos of their annual holiday offering.
CMLL has an article about Ephesto, Soberano Jr., Raziel and Blue Panther Jr. debuting in Japan on the FantasticaMania show. That’s not quite correct: Ephesto, as Panterita del Ring, actually was on 1992 UWF tour. CMLL’s preview says Raziel making the tour was the biggest surprise.

Does anyone know if ROH announces any of the NWA champs? Does the ROH fanbase even care? I would love to see Hechicero announced as one, if just to see if the crowd accepts him better than having him being announced as just another luchador.
