CMLL Puebla: 2016-10-03

a summary of how the Monday/Tuesday shows feel right now
a summary of how the Monday/Tuesday shows feel right now

Recapped: 10/20/2016

What happened: Ultimo Guerrero defeated Rush via cheating. Sam Adonis fouled Johnny Idol and Felino hit Terrible with a toilet lid, but neither of those seemed to go anywhere.

What was good: Nothing was worth checking out from the stuff I checked out.

Where can I watch it: It’s all on CMLL’s channel (and on 52MX by now)

maybe it doesn't count as a dive if it's an armdrag?

  1. técnicos
    • Black Tiger huracanrana Rey Apocalipsis (5:30)
    • Soberano Jr. springboard moonsault Toro Bill Jr. (6:04)
  2. rudos
    • Espanto Jr. Canadian Destroyer Sobernao Jr. (3:30)
  3. técnicos
    • Flyer standing reverse armbar Rey Apocalispis (2:59)
    • Flyer corner dropkick Espanto Jr. (3:21)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 12:28

Review: [below average] a fine match that could be better with a good ending, but one where Espanto Jr. was just terrible at in the end. He failed to hiptoss Black Tiger on a double hiptoss spot, where Tiger instead almost landed on his head. He couldn’t put Tiger on the top rope without almost dropping him to the floor and then just failed to catch Soberano at all for the ramp boost headscissors. I don’t know if he’s suffered an arm injury, he wasn’t acting like he was hurt, he just looked like a man who forgot to use his arms or to care at all. His Canadian Destroyer was not any good either, and he really needs to be benched to give any one of the youngsters a chance. Espanto has had his, and hasn’t made anything out of it.

  1. rudos
    • Okumura hanging DDT Guerrero Maya Jr. (5:13)
  2. técnicos
    • Fuego La Guelaguetza Bobby Z (4:19)
    • Stigmatica on Okumura (4:45)
  3. técnicos
    • Guerrero Maya Dos Caras Clutch Bobby Z (5:32)

Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 15:30
Notes: Bobby Z wasn’t the captain in the second fall, somehow was in the third fall.

Review: [ok] fine enough midcard match, outside of Stigma seemingly bailing on doing anything in the third fall. Okumura actually looked the best of the rudos, especially working with the tecnicos, but this match didn’t get very deep. Fuego was very fired up the whole way and enjoyable in his celebrations. Maya can be a cold character, more so of late, and Fuego being the opposite personality works well together.

Match 4: Johnny Idol, Titán, Valiente vs Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Sam Adonis

  1. rudos
    • Gran Guerrero pumphandle faceslam Titan (5:28)
    • Niebla Roja Furia Roja Valiente (5:35)
  2. técnicos
    • Titan figure four Niebla Roja (2:06)
    • Valiente Indian Deathlock Gran Guerrero (2:12)
  3. rudos
    • DQ Sam Adonis [foul Johnny Idol] (4:58)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 12:45
Notes: the other tecnicos had the other rudos in winning holds when Adonis fouled Johnny Idol.

Review: [ok] Adonis & Idol are back! They weren’t really gone but they were gone from stuff I was seeing. They, and mostly Adonis, add a different energy to this matches. That Idol headscissors near the end didn’t look nearly as good as the big boot that preceded it. I did like how Adonis tried to find a way to stumble around bent over and hurt while waiting for Idol to catch back up for the final foul, much better than the play dead/play dumb bit done more often. The rest of this match was well done and a little better than the last match if not really a standout. Gran Guerrero’s finish on Titan looked amazing.

Match 5: Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys vs Ephesto, Felino, Mephisto
Arena Puebla, 10/03/2016
Video:
VideosOficialesCMLLthecubsfan

  1. TGR
    • TGR double w Guerrero (4:00)
  2. Team Felino
    • Felino half nelson cradle Rey Bucanero (2:54)
    • Ephesto figure four pin Vangellys (3:04)
  3. Team Felino
    • Felino toilet lid, Mephisto cradle on Terrible (3:24)

Winner: Team Felino (2/3)
Match Time: 10:28
Notes: Felino replaced Super Crazy and that team fought as técnicos. Vangelys and Ephesto appear to blow something badly and Ephesto just makes up another pin on the spot. Mephisto had Terrible in a huracanrana for the win, but Bucanero pulled the ref away. Terrible put Mephisto in a suastica, but Felino smacked him with the toilet lid and Mephisto cradles for the three count. No one cares.

if you're going to slide out on Ephesto, I guess at least stand in a place he can't hit

  2. Rush corner dropkick (2:18)
  3. Ulitmo Guerrero foul (5:57)

Notes: Rush waits for UG in the aisle, and UG charges right into his punch.Rush shoved Tirantes when he got in the way of the dropkick, and UG got in a foul as Tirantes took a pratfall

Review: [ok] I like to have a GIF for every match I recap, and I like to try and mix up the GIFs so I’m not just posting a new version of the same moves. I don’t do a great job of that variety, but that’s the aim. This was a hard match to GIF because pretty much everything they did that was worth remembering has been done a hundred times before. It’s not like this specific match up is new, but the match felt very familiar. All the usual spots done with the intensity you’d expect on a midcard Tuesday match, and definitely not a big event. If someone dropped in to watch this match who doesn’t watch much CMLL, I think they’d give it like three to three and half stars (and be blown away by horribleness of the ref bump), but it’s hard to recommend something so routine and kind of lifeless. I know they can do many times better than this match, and I know doing this match means they didn’t care all that much, which makes it hard for me to care all that match. What they did was generally well done (that superplex near the end not so much), but they really didn’t do all that much.
