CMLL Martes Mexico: 2016-08-30

Ultimo Guerrero is strong
Ultimo Guerrero is strong

Recapped: 09/09/2016

What happened: Ultimo Guerrero cheated to beat Volador, again. The Panther and Skandalo continued their off and on feud. That’s about it.

What was good: The main event was good if you’re not tired of it. I like the fourth match, and outright skipped paying attention to the first two matches and the semimain.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s channel.

Review: [ok] This wasn’t on the list of matches people were telling me to check out on this show, and I decided to watch it anyway. It was fine. The Dinamita Kids are coming up with even more tag team moves (or watching some tapes) and we got some cool dives and not so cool dives, but the Panther/Skandalo feud doesn’t excite me. The Panther works the best as an underdog getting beat on, but Skandlao’s tough to care about given the last decade of non-interesting match. I guess a small story in a match is better than no one at all.

Review: [good] This was alright for most of the way, but I was really not sure why people were excited about it for a while. They did a few Blue Panther match things, like Cometa coming back all by himself to win the second fall, but it was a bit ordinary and even disappointing that they teased Blue Panther/Virus early and then got away from it. It’s the last couple minutes, after Blue Panther passes up a chance to win and chooses to fight Virus again, where then really get exciting. Misterioso & Sagrado are very predictable, but their stooging is always good, and they set up the técnicos for a big comeback here. Fuego and Virus played the crowd well leading to the win, and this group of técnicos always treats a win as a big thing. This match was probably helped by the content of the rest of the show, but the ending stretch is worth seeing.

  2. Pulpo Guerrero (2:27)
  3. Voldaor disqualification (11:49)

Winner: Volador (1/3)

Notes: Finish saw Volador almost charge into UG, Tirantes turn around to avoid him, UG slap Tirantes in the back, and then go down faking a foul. Tirantes shoved Volador down and called the DQ.

Review: [good] This was about the same match as Puebla. If you, like me, watched the Puebla match, you might have found trouble keeping interested in this because both these guys have similar singles matches all the time. The crowd in the building (besides maybe Miki) didn’t see the match in Puebla so they were very enthused the whole way. The finish was definitely worse than in Puebla, but the powerbomb catch looks good every time.
