Argos into oblivian
Argos stumbles into oblivion

Recapped: 08/18/2016

What happened: Volador & UG picked up 3 points. I assume, I turned the show off before the scoreboard in annoyance about how little sense it makes. Edgar played into the Rush finish again, which is probably more about one referee doing almost all the Liga Elite matches than a storyline, but I guess we see.

What was good: I liked the Rush/UG main event, and the others just didn’t click for me.

Where can I watch it: Some of it’s on my channel, most of it’s in the unofficial Liga Elite channel.

Review: [good] I’m marking this match down as good because there were moments which were entertaining, but it also did not live up to my expectations. Argos can’t really be blamed, he was slightly better than usual, but the other guys just didn’t seem to click as well as they had in previous matches. Golden Magic seemed off in the first two falls, and the match was hurt by having essentially two técnico teams. Cometa worked as a rudo, but the crowd didn’t take to it. They also turned loudly on the four way chop fight spot, which surprised me. There was some impressive athleticism in here, it just didn’t full translate.

Match 2: El Bandido, Emperador Azteca, Último Ninja vs El Cuatrero, Fresero Jr., Sansón
Arena México, 08/11/2016

  1. rudos
    • Fresero Jr. corner dropkick Ultimo Ninja (5:14)
  2. rudos
    • Cuatrero inside springboard elbow drop Emperador Azteca (6:53)
    • Sansón springboard knee smash Bandido (7:30)

Winner: rudos (1/2)
Match Time: 12:44

Review: [ok] Better in highlights from than a match; it was a bit all over the place and didn’t build. Maybe that’s because it was so intended to be a showcase for the tall rudos, but the técnicos just got in random moves at times. First fall just felt really long for me; I gave it a couple tries and the rudo section dragged until the big spots a the end. Weirdly laid out too, with the técnicos making the big comeback and then getting beat anyway. Bandido looked like a star in the time he got, and it’d be nice to see him in more competitive matches.

Match 3: Carístico, Máximo, Súper Crazy vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Sharlie Rockstar

  1. rudos
    • Mephisto kick to the ribs Máximo (5:10)
    • Sharlie Rockster El Pozo Super Crazy (5:10)
  2. técnicos
    • Máximo half crab Sharlie Rockstar (2:50)
    • Super Crazy corner sunset flip Ephesto (2:57)
  3. rudos
    • Máximo kiss Ephesto (3:00)
    • Sharile Rockstar & Mephisto wheelbarrow faceslam Máximo (4:48)
    • Mephisto mask pull Carístico (5:44)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 13:51

Review: [ok] This one had a better flow than the previous match but the action itself wasn’t much. They never really got out of first and didn’t do much interesting. Carístico seemed to disappear for minutes at a time, and didn’t do a lot while in there, and that fits with him not really being 100% after his injury. It was a lot of Máximo spots to play to the crowd.

Match 4: Atlantis vs Volador Jr. in a Liga Elite match
Arena México, 08/11/2016

Winner: Volador (backcracker)
Match Time: 7:03

Review: [good] Volador getting thrown around by Old Man Lucha. It’s not a knock on Atlantis, who did his part easily, but the entertainment was in how big Volador made everything look. The ending was a bit underwhelming, it took little to beat Atlantis after Volador has gone thru so much. This was good in the lightning match style rather than the big epics on this show in weeks past.

Match 5: Último Guerrero vs Rush in a Liga Elite match
Arena México, 08/11/2016
Video:

Winner: Ultimo Guerrero (foul)
Match Time: 9:02
Notes: Rush set up Ultimo Guerrero for the corner dropkick, started to run to the other corner, and ran over a way out of position referee Edgar. UG slipped in the foul for the win.

Review: [great] Rush went after Ultimo Guerrero from the start, and the brawl made it work. These guys beat each other up for the first few minutes, pulling UG out of his usual match at least for a while. You could feel the chops thru the TV and UG had to fight his way back into the match. Even when they got to the UG checklist later on, it wasn’t all the spots and it was mixed up when they were happening, adding lots of drama to the ending. Edgar’s involvement in the finish was the kind of ludicrous ref bump bits that are annoying to see. There’s probably a lot better match possible but this was still worth seeing.
