Daga stops the flips
Daga cuts off Fenix

Recapped: 08/10/2016

What happened:  Johnny Mundo beat Pentagon Jr. and said he’d be taking his title. Hijo del Fatnasma returned. Fenix and Daga had a really good match. Gran Apache attacked Venom for the 500th time.

What was good: Fenix versus Daga! There were parts of the other matches which were good but neither totally came together for me.

Where can I watch it: It’s on AAA’s channel.

Previously: Pagano defeated Psycho Clown again. Chessman & Averno did not win, thanks to Faby Apache. Chessman & Averno made fun of the Apaches. Read More

Caristico back in Elite, DTU results, Dragon Lee vs La Mascara trios tonight (but not on Claro)

DTU (THU) 08/04/2016 Arena Aficion [+LuchaTV, DTU]
1) Erwin & Irving ?? El Porrito & Masizito
2) El Gio & Jr. b Charly Madrid & Moria
Moria replaced Oscar Sevilla.
3) Gallego & Mr. Cóndor b Jimmy & Kevin
Diabolicos debut in DTU. Both sides talked about a rematch.
4) Diva Salvaje, El Exótico, Yuriko b Ángel o Demonio, Corsario Negro Jr., Taylor Wolf
Taylor Wolf replaced Black Fire (moved up)
5) Dragón Rojo Jr., Fujin, Raijin b Aero Boy, Black Fire, Pesadilla
Black Fire replaced Rocky Lobo (Elite). Fujin & Raijin want a tag title shot and CMLL rudo walked off with the DTU mask matches.
6) Lokillo & Zeuxis b Daniel Alburquerque & Lady Maravilla
Teams changed around, match moved late (so Maravilla could make it here from CMLL) and Daniel Alburquerque replaced Tony Iron.
7) Flamita b XL
Originally a tag match with Flamita & XL against Drastick Boy & Ronnie Mendoza. Mendoza worked Elite, Drastick Boy MIA, so Flamita and XL had an excellent singles match instead. Money thrown in.
8) Cíclope b Sharlie Rockstar, Ovett
Ciclope wants a shot at Sharlie’s DTU Consgrado championship (the top title in the promotion that’s not in Mexico.) Sharlie accepted.

Looked like a really good turn out for this show. Flamita/XL sounds like it was great.  +LuchaTV should have highlights of the match, but not sure if that one will turn up complete.

ELITE (THU) 08/04/2016 Arena México [+LuchaTV, Medio Tiempo, SuperLuchas]
1) Lluvia & Marcela b Keira & Lady Maravilla
2) El Cuatrero, Forastero (CMLL), Sansón b Ciclón Ramírez Jr., Dinamic Black, Hijo del Pantera
3) El Hijo del Medico Asesino, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Karonte Jr. b El Bandido, Jinzo, Rocky Lobo
4) Rey Escorpión b Último Guerrero [Liga Elite]
Escorpion picked up 3 points.
5) Carístico, Súper Crazy, Valiente b Cavernario, Euforia, Mr. Niebla
Euforia replaced Negro Casas. Caristico was noticeably not 100%.
6) Volador Jr. DCOR La Máscara [Liga Elite]
Neither man made it back in before 20. Fans were not happy and pelted the ring with garbage. Edgar was ref again. Mascara & Volador continue to fight for a few moments. Mascara hit Edgar, who ‘recovered’ and eventually dragged Mascara to the back.

Attendee looks better than usual, which might be due to Caristico’s return after four weeks or a Volador main event. The main event results sounds a lot like LA Park/Rush, and it’s unclear if this was some attempt at turning that match into their own storyline or another main event falling apart.

Caristico, after his match, said he’s not completely recovered from his injury and that’s why he’s wearing the belt. He’d like to be 100% by the time he gets to Japan. He kind of went back on his specificity of retiring in 2-3 years, saying more unspecifically he’s not retiring soon but it won’t be a long time away either.

@jay_del_aire has a solid theory about Liga Elite’s weird standings from last week: maybe the Negro Casas matches don’t count anymore, for whatever reason. It fits with some of the missing matches from last week’s scoreboard. It would seem to be something you need to explain, but nothing gets explaining. Going with that idea, the standings would be:

9 Carisitco (3W-1L)
9 Atlantis (3W-1L)
9 Teddy Hart (3W-1L)
7 Volador (2W-1D-1L)
6 Rey Escorpion (2W-2L)
6 Mascara Dorada (2W-3L)
6 Xtreme Tiger (2W-4L)
4 LA Park (1W-1L-1D)
4 Diamante Azul (1W-1L-1D)
4 La Mascara (1W-1D-2L)
3 Rush (1W-1L)
3 Ultimo Guerrero (1W-4L)

This would also mean Rey Escorpion (Negro Casas’ replacement) has to face Rush & Diamante Azul (or maybe Cibernetico), even though he already ‘lost’ those matches. It’s probably more likely that people in charge aren’t really taking this seriously and neither should anyone else. The only thing I’ve gotten from this is Ultimo Guerrero sure has lost a lot, a lot more than he seems to in CMLL.

There are four Friday shows left before CMLL’s Anniversary show, and zero announced matches. Perhaps that’ll change tonight. CMLL’s main event has brothers Mistico & Dragon Lee teaming with Volador Jr. against La Mascara, Ephesto, and Mephisto. Dragon Lee versus La Mascara seems the slight favorite to main event on 09/02, but Dragon Lee has so far failed to beat La Mascara even in a single fall. He’ll need to do so to actually get the match.

(It would be sort of incredible for Dragon Lee to main event the CMLL biggest show of the year, and then be introduced as a new young undercard guy four weeks later in ROH. For his part, La Mascara continues to say he’s only interested in an apuesta match with Rush.)

Rey Bucanero has been nearly as unsuccessful against Super Crazy; they’ll meet again in the semifinal. Crazy teams with the Invasors (not the Elite team; there may be a rule about how weeks in a row ‘outsiders’ can be booked) Kraneo & Ripper against Bucanero’s usual partners Shocker & Terrible. The Bucanero/Crazy match is the match most certain to happen in September, though no one’s said that outloud during a wrestling show so far.

And, of course, if they did, we wouldn’t hear it. Today’s show will not be show on the ClaroSports.com website, as it’s pre-empted for the Olympics the next three weeks. It’s possible CMLL could stick it on their own YouTube channel, but they’ve given no indication they plan on doing so (and you should plan on it not being shown.) Matches from this show will eventually air on TV: 08/27 on Claro Sports TV in Mexico (the last TV show before the Anniversary show), 09/03 on Azteca in the US, and 09/08 on TFN in Canada.

The rest of the show is the usual assortment of random matches. Star Jr. & Robin take on Hijo del Signo & Akuma in the opener. Pegasso, Stigma and Fuego face Okumura, Sangre Azteca and Arkangel. The best of the first half of the card is Blue Panther, the Panther, Blue Panther Jr. versus Misterioso, Sagrado and Bobby in the tercera. Stuka and Gran Guerrero meet in the lightning match.

Marco Corleone replaces Valiente on Sunday’s show. Estrellita replaces Marcela on Tuesday in Arena Mexico.

The Chad Dukes show interviewed Killshot recently. Killshot mentions he came up with ideas for his own character’s backstory between seasons, pitched them to the writers, and much of it got adapted into reworked season 2 character. Killshot is a big part of season 3.

The top 3 from Oaxaca will air on TV this week. The first two matches – the minis trios and the mixed tag – will go up on AAA’s website today.

Lucha Memes 08/21 in Club Atlantico, Mexico City
1: Virus vs Alberto Dos Rios
2: Zafiro vs Arez
3: Lady Maravilla vs Keira vs Magnifica
4: Mike Segura vs Rey Cometa
5: Freelance vs Dragon Lee
6: Aramis, Iron Kid, Alas de Acero vs Kaligula, Lunatic Boy, Lunatic Fly

The second team is listed as part of Zona 23. There’s so many people in Zona 23 and I don’t know half of them.

Lucha Azteca7 Elite: 2016-07-30

insane

Recapped: 07/30/2016

What happened: a Rey Escorpión (over Mascsara Dorada) & Teddy Hart (over Extreme Tiger in a cage) won Liga Elite matches, though “Teddy Hart” (in the form of Bobby Lashley) had already beaten Extreme Tiger.

The Liga Elite standings table at the end of the show either has a lots of errors, or they canceled out many matches.

What was good: Dorada/Escorpion is the match to watch.

Where can I watch it: It’s on my channel. Read More

lucha TV preview for weekend of August 5th

20160804lt

Larger version.

No CMLL Claro for the next 3 weeks.

Do you like Kushida? Do you like watching possibly edited matches? Volador and Kushida airs on Azteca in the US this week.

AAA has what should be a one week show from Oaxaca. Daga & Super Fly vs Aerostar & Australian Suicide seems like the best match on paper.

The mask match on IWRG Saturday should be pretty good, assuming it doesn’t get pre-empted for baseball.

MDA (SUN) 07/31/2016 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [+LuchaTV, LuchaMania Monterrey]
1) Mini Hator DCOR Mini Difunto
both were counted out after a Spanish Fly to the floor.
2) Tekilita b Chamaco Gurrola
hair match challenges followed
3) Epydemius, Ninja Jr., Obsesión b Lince De Oro & Tormento [super libre]
Ulitmo Ninja, Golden Magic and Metaleon all were announced but didn’t appear. This left it 3 v 2, with the 2 eliminating Ninja Jr. & Epydemius before Obsesion beat them. This sets up a cage match.
4) Ángel de Oro, Galactar, Laredo Kid b Delta, Dragón Lee (CMLL), Hijo de LA Park
Angel de Oro & Dragon Lee were added to the match. Galactar snuck a foul in on Delta.
5) Pierroth, Rambo, Silver King DQ El Divo, El Hijo del Solitario, La Máscara
Silver fouled Mascara, Mascara fouled Silver, the ref saw only the second. Singles match challenges followed.
6) Hijo De Octagon & Octagón DQ Fuerza Guerrera & Juventud Guerrera
Octagons masks came off when they were tied to the ropes (same finish they’re doing everywhere)
7) Caifan DQ Atlantis
Atlantis took 2/3, Caifan getting the three count but still being DQed for a foul.
8) LA Park DDQ Rush [super libre] Rush vs L.A. Park, en MDA Aniversario (posted by +LuchaTV)
Referees argued over which side won by DQ; the first referee said it was LA Park won by DQ. (It’s still super libre, a no DQ match.)

The last five matches ending in foul, and the last four ending in DQ, is the most Monterrey possible show. The LA Park/Rush video is complete, if you weren’t aware it was around.

CMLL (TUE) 08/02/2016 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Martes de Glamour]
1) Carlo Roggi & Linterna b Capitán Cobra & Johnny Dinamo
Rudos took 1/3
2) Estrellita, Princesa Sugehit, Sanely b Amapola, La Seductora, Reyna Isis
Tecnicos took 2/3.
3) Kráneo, Olímpico, Vangellys b Esfinge, Rey Cometa, Vaquero
Rudos took 1/3. Vaquero was this show’s Super Porky replacement. Gallo doesn’t seem to be around, with Gallito seconding other locals instead (like Vaquero here to go against Mije.)
4) Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Terrible b Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada, Stuka Jr.
Rudos took 1/3.
5) Ephesto, Euforia, Mephisto b Carístico, Mistico, Volador Jr.
Rudos took 1/3, the last when Mephisto unmasked Caristico. Caristico demanded a singles match next week.

Huge crowd; the upper level was plenty full, and they normally don’t even have people up there. Caristico wore something around his lower waist as a protection for his injury (looking similar to what Thunder was wearing.)

IWRG (WED) 08/03/2016 Arena Naucalpan [+LuchaTV, The Gladiatores]
1) Brazo De Oro Jr. & Keiser Drago b Fly Tiger & Último Caballero
2) Araña de Plata b Alas de Acero, Guerrero 2000, Aramis, Hanaoka
Fujin & Raijin were in attendance with a sign rooting on Hanaoka.
3) Dowki, Picudo Jr., Skanda b Black Dragón, Hijo del Alebrije, Yakuza
4) Judas el Traidor b Black Terry
Judas somehow snuck in a chain shot to cause Terry to bleed. Then chairs were used and the ref got taken out before the finish. Judas continued to attack after the win, with the FILL kids making the save and making challenges.
5) Dragón Fly b Demonio Infernal [mask]
Bombero Infernal attacked Dragon Fly on the way to the ring and helped Demonio thru the match. Aramis helped out Dragon Fly, who took falls 2/3 to win in a bloody match. Demonio Infernal is José Antonio Rojas, 3 years a wrestler.

It’s not stated if Infernal is (another) Bomber Infernal son or some other relation.

Elite’s show tonight has Volador Jr. vs La Mascara and Ultimo Guerrero vs Rey Escorpion in Liga Elite matches; the second one has been pretty good in the past. The semimain has the return of Caristico to these shows, teaming with Super Crazy & Valiente vs Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, and Negro Casas. The undercard has Bandido, Jinzo, Rocky Lobo versus the Medics, the Dinamita cousins vs Ciclon Ramriez Jr., Dinamic Black, Hijo del Pantera and a women’s tag between Lluvia & Marcela vs Keira & Lady Maravilla.

DTU also has a show tonight in Arena Aficion. The main event is a barbed wire cobweb match, with Sharlie Rocker versus Ciclope versus Ovett. Fujin, Raijin and Dragon Rojo are CMLL reps on this card, scheduled to take on Pesadilla, Rocky Lobo and Aeroboy.

Ronnie Mendoza, Lady Maravilla, and Rocky Lobo were announced for both the DTU and Elite shows. Mendoza is no longer on the DTU show (the tag match is now Drastick Boy vs XL vs Flamita); the other two still are on both at the moment. Keira is listed on both Elite and the Mucha Lucha show in Guadalajara; she’s probably working Arena Mexico.

Leo Riano’s column yesterday says Dragon Lee vs La Mascara will be the main event for the Anniversary match. He’s not a sure thing to be right, but he does know things. It would follow the usual CMLL build to a match: there’s an interview with La Mascara on CMLL’s website with him turning down the mask match again, and the usual pattern is one side keeps on turning it down until they’re finally forced to give in. (The matches that never happen are the ones where both people agree to it right away.) Rush/La Mascara would seem to be the better draw, Dragon Lee would be better for building a star for the future – assuming you can keep him in the future.

You won’t be able to watch Friday night CMLL shows live for the next three weeks. CMLL announced this by saying they’re back on ClaroSports on August 26; they’re off starting tomorrow. It’s a ClaroSports issue, not a CMLL one – they’re covering the Olympics for the next three weeks. This means the shows on 5th, 12th and 19th won’t air on ClaroSports, though they’ll all still be taped as usual. The 19th is currently listed on NJPW World’s site as airing on their service; they appeared to be piggy backing on Claro’s feed, so I’m not sure if it’ll still occur.

This isn’t going to help the weak build to the Anniversary show. The shows still will eventually air on Azteca in the US, four weeks after they take place. It seems like it wouldn’t be hard for CMLL to still air the shows on YouTube, or even put them up later, but there’s no mention of that.

Dragon Lee may have a busy month: he was announced as appearing on the 09/30 (Friday) ROH PPV in Lowell, Massachusetts, and the 10/01 TV tapings. No opponent was announced, but I’d be shocked if he didn’t face Kamaitachi in a singles match on one of those days. Dragon Lee was scheduled to go earlier, but was out injured and Stuka replaced him. The Kamaitachi/Stuka match should air soon.

Faby is upset about her father siding against her and Mary.

LuchaWorld has the latest edition of their podcast.

08/26 AIW has Alex Daniels vs Triton vs Laredo Kid vs Matt Cross, which should be something.

Lineups

Cara Lucha (SAT) 08/20/2016 Arena San Juan Pantitlan, Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, Estado de México
1) Ángel Jr. & Príncipe Aéreo vs Centella Atomic & Tromba
2) Kilvan, Shadow, Yoruba vs Alas de Acero, Alas de Oro, Alas De Plata
3) Rayo Star vs Sky Man [Mucha Luchas SUPREMO]
4) Corsario Negro Jr., Drako, Toro Negro vs Andy Boy, Látigo, Danger King
5) Centvrión & Fly Warrior vs Dragón Lee & El Bandido
6) Flamita vs Xtreme Tiger

Flamita/Tiger took place last year and was pretty good, so it should be good here too. Bandido has been great in Elite of late and the semimain should be super. The rest of the card is not bad; someone’s leaping off an upper level in the third match.
