when in doubt, just put the GIF where Aerostar goes into the second row at the top

Recapped: 08/13/2016

What happened: Averno knocked out Mary Apache, Faby Apache broke a bottle over Averno’s head. El Apache made himself referee for that match. Pagano and Psycho Clown talked a lot.

(Looking back it, it’s amazing how much time AAA spent on the Apaches vs Chessman/Averno for it to open TripleMania.)

What was good: The main event was really good. The other matches were backdrops to the Averno & Chessman versus Apaches feud, which I’m starting to get concerned will just be lots of gimmickery.

Where can I watch it: It’s on AAA’s channel and my channel. As with most Toluca tapings, Entre Segunda & Tercera has handheld highlights as well.

Previously: Cage beat Wagner. Angelico & Jack won the tag titles back. Averno accepted the Apaches match. There was also a tag match.

Match 1: El Elegido, Faby Apache, Mary Apache vs Hijo de Pirata Morgan, La Hiedra, Súper Fly

ENTRE SEGUNDA Y TERCERAthecubsfanLucha Libre AAA

Winner: Tecnicos (By DQ)
Match Time: 7:27
Notes: This is two men and one woman against 1 woman and two men because – I dunno. Lady Shani had important ninja work to do, I guess. Mary Apache spikes Super Fly with a Michinoku Driver, but Chessman hits her with the hair before she can cover. That’s a DQ. Averno & Ricky Marvin join Mary, and eventually break a framed photo of Faby over Mary’s head as revenge for costing her the tag titles. (Faby is down on the outside for a long time to accommodate Averno talking for a quite a while.) Mary is knocked out, then waked up but doesn’t move. El Apache runs out with a chair, and the crowd is thrilled with the idea he might be helping his daughters. Apache quickly explains it’s all Faby’s fault for getting Mary hurt, and takes Averno’s side. Apache reveals he’s (inexplicably) been made the referee for this match and celebrates this fact with the rudos. Faby has about the same reaction this development as I do. Mary’s put in a neckbrace.

Review: [ok] Elegido has clearly spent a lot of time building up his muscles, and somehow those muscles were not enough for him to cleanly give La Hiedra a backbreaker. He almost lost her entirely. It may be that Elegido is just not any good. This match was alright, I guess, but not as fun as the Apaches killing people, and not these tecnicos having fun matches against the flyers, and not one with any sort of ending. Everyone not in the angle (except Elegido) just vanishes at the end, because they were so thoroughly unimportant.

Match 2: Argenis, Bengala, La Parka vs Averno, Chessman, Ricky Marvin
Gimnasio Agustín Millán, Toluca, Estado de México, 07/29/2016

ENTRE SEGUNDA Y TERCERAthecubsfanLucha Libre AAA

Winner: rudos (DQ for Faby attack)
Match Time: 12:35
Notes: Bengala has a new black outfit. Faby runs in at the end, way too late to bring up a double powerbomb on Bengala, but Piero helpfully stops counting anyway. She hits Averno with a bottle, which the cameras totally shoot from behind. (The bottle still seems to break, so I think she really hit Averno, but they never show it from another angle – it’s unclear if they missed the shot or were hiding some unlikely stunt work.) Faby yells at a bleeding Averno and not-present El Apache.

Review: [ok] The match comes to a halt for the longest “aaaaay…..puto” bit, the crowd is amused, and I’m bored. That’s this match; it’s really over at times but not really exciting for a person who just likes good wrestling matches. The rudo beatdown is just time killing, and La Parka tries to do things he can not actually pull off in his comeback. The blowoff to the comedy bit gets edited out, which probably doesn’t help. It’s really not the match to make Averno & Chessman look fearsome going into their match with the Apaches, but I supposed it doesn’t matter.

this took an uncomfortable long time to set up, and AAA still couldn’t find a way to get all into frame
20160813aaa-2-2
this is only half of this, but the payoff (?) got edited out, so who cares

Noti AAA is still Jesus Zuniga at the circus, since he’s talking more about Psycho Clown versus Pagano. This leads into the old face to face promo bit, with Pagano and Psycho Clown talking about their feud and who’s a copy of who.

this is an amazing scene

Match 4: Aerostar, Drago, Texano Jr. vs Daga, Joe Lider, Pentagón Jr.
Gimnasio Agustín Millán, Toluca, Estado de México, 07/29/2016
Video:
ENTRE SEGUNDA Y TERCERAthecubsfanLucha Libre AAA

Winner: técnicos (Texano powerbomb Joe Lider)
Match Time: 12:03
Notes: The Perros enter as a group, and Pentagon has his 3 belts. Texano is now such a técnico that Tirantes stops him from using the bullrope. He later does it behind the ref’s back to Lider, leading to the pin.

Review: [great] This is the AAA I want to live in. Just an exciting match from start to finish, with everyone working hard and doing what they can. It’s been so long since the Perros del Mal (and Pentagon in many places) have been actual mean rudos, and they were totally viscous in this match. Daga was throwing some great punches, Pentagon was chopping people around, and Lider was useful before he got the stapler. They were playing to the crowd, they weren’t using a chair cheaply and boringly, they were just destroying these técnicos. Texano was surprisingly over as a técnico, and worked well as a partner to Drago & Aerostar. They had some big moves – Aerostar does things in such unusual ways that AAA has no idea how to keep up with him, like on his second rope escape deal – and really no obvious faults. There are matches which feel bigger, but this was like the Daga/Fenix match, a pleasant change of the better guys in AAA just getting to go out and have a really strong match. I’m glad we’re getting at least one of these a taping, and I hope we can get more.
