AAA TV (FRI) 07/29/2016Gimnasio Agustín Millán, Toluca, Estado de México [AAA]
1) Dinastía, Lanzeloth, Octagoncito b Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Histeria, Mini Psycho Clown Lanzeloth moved to the tecnico side, replacing Mini Drago. Mini Psycho Clown replaced him as a rudo. Laneloth picked up his first direct win by beating Histeria.
2) El Elegido, Faby Apache, Mary Apache DQ Hijo de Pirata Morgan, La Hiedra, Súper Fly Averno, Chessman and Ricky Marvin attacked the Apaches. El Apache ran out, but only to criticize Faby for her behavior and side with the men. He’ll be special referee for their tag match at TripleMania.
3) Fénix & Hijo del Fantasma b Angélico & Jack Evans Fantasma & Fenix debuted as a team (Los Fantasmas de Fuego) and got their first win. Fantasma insisted he and Fenix are a permanent team of a tecnico & a rudo.
4) Averno, Chessman, Ricky Marvin DQ Argenis, Bengala, La Parka Faby hit Avenro with a bottle for the DQ. Averno bled.
5) Aerostar, Drago, Texano Jr. b Daga, Joe Lider, Pentagón Jr. Texano beat Lider via sit down powerbomb
6) Pagano b Psycho Clown [bull terrier] Psycho Clown lost again. Bloody match.
Air Date: 08/13 & 08/20
Let’s update the non-LWC matches for Psycho Clown
04/18: L
04/29: W (by countout)
05/14: L
05/31: L
06/16: L
07/03: L (by countout)
07/08: L
07/17: L
07/29: L
Included in that run is three different singles losses to Pagano. Part of the issue is it’s so long between major shows, and everything stays the same between those shows.
I know El Apache is a rudo who’s gone against Faby in the past, but Chessman & Averno have to be fools to trust him to not side with his daughters. I think it’s probably a way to give either side an out for losing that match (but they could’ve done the same with Tirantes either.) It comes across so randomly, with no reason Apache got to make himself referee.
It’s hard to believe Fenix & Fantasma are going to remain a team when Fenix is still due a shot at Fantasma’s title, but perhaps they’ve forgotten. It seems like they forgot.
They’re off for 3 weeks, not taping again until 08/19 in Veracruz.
CMLL (FRI) 07/29/2016Arena México [CMLL, thecubsfan]
1) Eléctrico & Último Dragóncito b Mercurio & Pequeño Nitro 14:03. Tencicos took 1/3.
2) Fujin, Okumura, Raijin b Oro Jr., Pegasso, Soberano Jr. 17:05. Rudos took 1/3
3) Golden Magic, Sharlie Rockstar, Súper Crazy b Bobby Z, Rey Bucanero, Vangellys 9:08. Team Elite took 1/3, Crazy surprising Bucanero.
4) Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente b Cavernario, Felino, Negro Casas 7:25. Peste Negra took 2/3. Mistico appeared to suffer a shoulder dislocation near the end of fall 1, maybe on a dive, and left the match between falls.
5) La Máscara b Dragón Lee 6:34. La Mascara took straight falls, first by accidental mask pull DQ, second by foul.
6) Marco Corleone, Máximo Sexy, Volador Jr. b Shocker, Terrible, Último Guerrero 9:53. Tecnicos took 1/3.
You can stop watching this show the moment Mistico gets hurt. It’s a rushed show from that point on.
The problem with the build to this Anniversary show is whoever’s facing La Mascara hasn’t appeared all that consistently, and La Mascara is not near a compelling enough figure to make it work on it’s own.
Friday night matches, June & July.
La Mascara: 8
Rush: 2 (07/01, 07/15) – Rush has more matches in LA (including today)
Dragon Lee: 2 (07/15, 07/29)
Pierroth: 2 (06/03, 06/10)
Dragon Lee has been hurt and CMLL may have figured out Pierroth wasn’t working out. There’s obviously something going on with Rush, even beyond any suspension he might have gotten, for him to be appearing so rarely the last two months. It would’ve made more sense for CMLL to hold off La Mascara/Rush as long as possible (if not to December, at least until the end of September) so they could have both of them in the ring together for weeks. Of the Munoz family, only Dragon Lee is around next week facing La Mascara, so it’s really more likely to be him in the Anniversary main event.
The problem with La Mascara versus Dragon Lee as the 09/02 match is they did it here, and it wasn’t much good, and it wasn’t done in a way where you’d be dying to see a rematch in 5 week’s time. (Dragon Lee has to stop doing the one man Spanish Fly. It goes badly every single time.)
Maybe it’ll be something different, but CMLL noticeably didn’t set anything else up. I guess it’s possible something might have been planned with Mistico before he got hurt, but it would’ve come out of nowhere. A cage match looks more unlikely now, but a tournament final or some other non-apuesta event on 09/02 is at least possible. Rey Bucanero versus Super Crazy seems like the only sure bet for the Anniversary show; it’s being built up more traditionally, with them fighting every single week. It’d be rough as a main event; Felino versus Super Crazy wasn’t a big draw back in February on Elite’s shows, and that was not at Anniversary prices.
There’s no update on Mistico’s status. They stayed away from showing his injury and it was tough to tell how serious it was, but speeding thru the match (instead of stalling to give him time to return) suggests it’s serious. That family continues to have a history of shoulder issues, and it’s something that could keep him out a few weeks.
Today’s Arena Coliseo main event is Mascara Dorada versus Mephisto. It won’t be televised and it’s too bad, because Dorada’s been great of late. I know people are hyped for Teddy Hart versus Extreme Tiger airing tonight on Elite for the weirdness, but it sounds like Escorpion/Dorada is a pretty great match too.
