Los Hermanos Lee
Los Hermanos Lee

Recapped: 07/15/2016

What happened: La Mascara won the first stage of the Leyenda de Plata when Rush ran into attack him (to prevent him from beating Dragon Lee, who was about to be beat.) Dragon Lee challenged Mascara to a mask match. UG snuck in a foul on Rush in the main event.

What was good: I really liked the Leyenda de Plata and the second match was good too. The opener was awful.

Where can I watch it:  The main event is on Claro’s site.

Match 1: La Vaquerita & Skadi vs Reina Isis & Tiffany
Arena México, 07/15/2016

  1. técnicas
    • Skadi corner stampede on Vaquerita into Reina Isia (6:12)
    • Vaquerita middle rope elbow drop Tiffany (6:29)
  2. rudas
    • Isis backcracker Skadi (4:40)
    • Tiffany reinera Vaquerita (4:57)
  3. rudas
    • Isis short armscissors Vaqueirta (4:42)
    • Tiffany senton Skadi (5:11)

Winner: rudas (2-1)
Match Time: 16:37

Review: [bad] some terrible looking offense by everyone involved making for a match that doesn’t belong on Friday’s card, or on much any day. It’s not a surprise this match was going to be bad, and it’s more confusing why they would even think to make it in the first place. Crowd turned on the match by the end, and I’m not sure why it took so long. Skadi and Vaquerita have worked hard on their double teams, and now they need to work on everything else. Tiffany’s senton missing for the finish is a good way to end this. This may be a generous grade.

Match 2: Ángel de Oro, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Ephesto, Hechicero, Luciferno
Arena México, 07/15/2016

  1. técnicos
    • Rey Cometa 450 splash Ephesto (4:48)
  2. rudos
    • Hechicero mad scientist bomb Angel de Oro (4:13)
  3. técnicos
    • Angel de Oro huracanrana Hehcicero (7:42)
    • Stuka torpedo splash Luciiferno (8:20)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 17:21

Review: [good] maybe was the openrr wasn’t any good to make this match even better. This was a midcard trios match done very well, with the six guys very used to fighting each other and doing it generally well. I’ve never seen Angel de Oro have the rope bounce headstand go wrong like he had it go here, but Hechicero’s awesome domination of the match made up for that, and the dive sequences were both well set up and well executed. Stuka & Angel de Oro can do this match in their sleep, but they didn’t sleep thru it at all.

  3. tecnicos

    • Terrible powerbomb Valiente (1:50)
    • Super Crazy Ephesto Roll Rey Bucanero (2:51)

Winner: técnicos (1/3)
Match Time: 11:35
Notes: Crazy & Bucanero feuded during the match, though it wasn’t clear if this was a one time thing or a new issue.

Review: [ok] slow and struggling at times, but had a hot third fall to carry it home. Bucanero showed a lot of agression going after Super Crazy, but this still isn’t something I really want to do see as a feud. Valiented nailed his Valiente Special. Things got really odd at the end of the second fall, but still not the worst refereeing I’ve seen.

Match 4: Mistico vs Dragón LeeVolador Jr.La MáscaraTitánMephistoTritónCavernarioGuerrero Maya Jr.RipperThe PantherVirus in a CMLL’s Leyenda de Plata Tournament match
Arena México, 07/15/2016

  1. Cavernario mammoth kick Triton (?8:13)
  2. Titan head crank armbar Virus (10:22)
  3. Ripper top rope senton the Panther (12:05)

  6. Mistico senton con giro Guerrero Maya (19:07)
  7. La Mascara double knee Mephisto (21:00)
  8. Dragon Lee hanging double stomp Cavernario (22:34)
  9. Mascara German suplex Volador (31:31)
  10. Mascara jacknife cradle Mistico (31:31)
  11. DQ Dragon Lee [Rush run-in] (35:09)

Winner: La Mascara
Match Time: 35:09
Notes: A quick seeding battle royal set the teams.

Team A: Volador Jr., La Máscara, Titán, Guerrero Maya Jr., Cavernario, The Panther

Team B: Mistico, Dragón Lee, Mephisto, Tritón, Virus, Ripper

Mascara had Dragon Lee beat – superkick, running heel kick, running double knee, and applying the campana – when Rush ran in for the save. Dragon Lee complained he wanted to fight La mascara by himself, and challenged Mascara to a mask match. Rush walked out, while Mascara refused and unmasked Lee.

Review: [excellent] Second outstanding cibernetico in three weeks, just an energetic battle with a story to tell with the winner. The first half had so many great moments and exchanges – the Titan/Dragon Lee sequence, Virus messing up everyone, Cavernario versus Mistico – that the match is worth checking out just for that alone. The final four sequence got a lot of time and had a story itself, with more care in to setting things up than they usually have (and a different way to do the usual double elimination.) The most excitng part is they may be going all the way with Dragon Lee, something it feels like CMLL needed to do but there was no great guarantee it’d happen.

There are some signs of concern here: Dragon Lee was back to limping a little bit by the end of the match, the match itself went down a notch in the last segment, Mascara pinning his parnter Volador makes absolutely no sense, and now we have endure a Negro Casas versus La Mascara match next week (where the only outcomes are Mascara winning or Lee costing him the match.) It was enough for me to waver on which category to put this in, but this was really strong.

Match 5: Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Rush vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero
Arena México, 07/15/2016

  1. Guerreros
    • Double U Guerrero (1:36)
  2. tecnicos
    • Diamante Azul German suplex Gran Guerrero (1:25)
    • Atlantis spinning side slam Euforia (1:25)
  3. Guerreros
    • Ultimo Guerrero foul Rush (3:58)

Winner: Guerrero (1/3)
Match Time: 6:59
Notes: UG bumped Rush into Tirantes to knock him down and sneak in the foul.

Review: [ok] generous OK, because it was fine while it lasted but it sure didn’t last long. Super hurried match which didn’t really develop much, and a bit of a dumb finish given Rush is the only guy of this six who’s doing anything at the moment. I’d with CMLL would learn time management rather than end with a buffer match, and this being the buffer doesn’t totally explain why it went so short: they ended about 10 minutes earlier than usual. This was just anticlimatic.

  1. If they don’t do La Mascara vs SOMEONE in the Munoz family then CMLL has lost the plot. Just not Pierroth/Mascara at the anniversary please.
