Recapped: 07/03/2016

What happened: Zeuxis kept her title. The foreigners won the main event.

What was good: The women’s title match was good from what we could watch, and the main event was good too.

Where can I watch it: It’s on a couple YouTube channels linked before. I think the main event is still on Clarosports.com too. The feed did not work well for the first half of the show. The second match is joined in progress on the brutalrabit recording, and the video speeds up at random points during the title match. You’re better off with the hablemos de lucha libre version for that one. The fourth match live is also skipped entirely on that recording.

Match 2: Fuego, Guerrero Maya Jr., Titán vs Bobby Z, Puma, Tiger

    • Puma Kingdom Fuego (5:34)

Winner: rudos
Match Time: 5:34 shown
Notes: The match starts airing around 5:37. Only the last five minutes of the match are shown. They’re a good five minutes.

  1. Princesa Sugehit huracanrana (3:22)
  2. Zeuxis bridging inside cradle (2:19)
  3. Zeuxis Spanish Fly (5:45)

Winner: Zeuxis (2/3)
Match Time: 11:26 seen, probably more aired
Notes: Seconds are Dalys & Fuego.

Review: [good? Great?] Very tough to watch because the video quality issues (which aren’t the fault of the people who recorded the show or those who were in the match) – it’s CMLL doesn’t put up full matches from Friday on their own, because this would be an easily recommendable match on it’s own and you have to really want to watch it to check it out in this form. (Hablemos has the better and more complete version.) They did some big spots in this match, but also some really smart wrestling, with the first couple fall finishes coming at the end of counter sequences very smoothly. Zeuxis has had good matches based on big spots and kick outs, but this was the most complete title match she’s had so far. It was a really good performance out of Sugehit too. It was maybe a couple minutes too long for this crowd, but I was still liking at the end.

Match 5: Kushida, Marco Corleone, Mistico vs La Máscara, Shocker, Terrible

  1. rudos
    • Terrible top rope splash Marco Corleone (1:48)
    • Shocker tirabuzon Kushida (2:11)
  2. tecnicos
    • Marco Corleone Air Corleone Shocker (2:22)
    • Kushida Hoverboard Lock Terrible (2:28)
  3. tecnicos
    • DQ La Mascara [unmask Mistico] (5:07)

Winner: técnicos
Match Time: 9:46
Notes: Mascara attacks Mistico on the way to the ring to start the match early. Kushida proves he’s not from here by actually hurrying to the ring to make the save. Mascara taunted Mistico after the match.

Review: [ok] standard match, mostly existing to continue to established La Mascara as Not A Good Guy and against the Munoz. It was mostly a waste of Mistico & Kushida, who looked good in the few big spots they had to work with but didn’t have the best crew to work with. Terrible is a lot more fun than Shocker in this group, most for his reactions.

Match 6: Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Volador Jr. vs Sam Adonis, Tama Tonga, Tangaroa
Arena México, 06/24/2016
Video:
brutalrabit

  1. rudos
    • Tama Tonga/Tanga Roa powerbomb neckbreaker combo (2:35)
  2. técnicos
    • Diamante Azul German suplex Tanga Roa (3:03)
    • Volador backcracker Tama Tonga (3:18)
  3. rudos
    • Tama & Tonga double team DDT on Atlantis (4:43)

Winner: rudos (1/3)
Match Time: 10:36

Review: [good] Strong introduction for the foreigners, with them not dominating the match but getting enough flashy moves to stand out and winning in the end makes sense for the pre-Gran Prix show. The double team finishers are the best part of their act. There were some awkward moments, but Diamante Azul throwing everyone around was fun. Atlantis leaping into the crowd was cool and unexpected from him.
