Recapped: 06/28/2016
What happened: Estrellita challenged Dalys, and they’ll be having a CMLL World Women’s Championship match soon, maybe next Tuesday. Surprisingly, Maya also challenged Dragon Rojo, wanting another shot at the middleweight title. Dragon Rojo only wants a mask match.
What was good: The main event was the standout match on the show. The two matches before it were watchable. Not a lot before then.
Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel.
Match 1: Bengala & Leono vs Apocalipsis & Artillero
Arena México, 06/28/2016
- rudos
- Artillero Stretch Leono (5:17)
- Apocalispis side bow and arrow (6:01)
- técnicos
- Triangular de Solar on Apocalipsis (3:32)
- Leono headscissors into reverse armbar (3:57)
- técnicos
- Leono stretch muffler Apocaipsis (2:42)
- Bengala satellite armbar Artillero (3:14)
Winner: técnicos (2/3)
Match Time: 13:12
Review: [below average] nothing happening match with guys who just were trying to get thru the time, though it seemed shorter than usual. Leono, even not caring all that much, is much better than he was when he was getting pushed and is on pace to be an indie star when he turns 45. He’s got a really good IWRG hair match in him, I”m sure.
Match 2: Astral, Eléctrico, Stukita vs Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico
Arena México, 06/28/2016
- técnicos
- Eléctrico reverse cavernaria Pequeño Olímpico (5:23)
- Stukita torpedo splash Olímpico (6:11)
- rudos
- Pequeño Nitro & Mercurio springboard dropkick Astral (2:38)
- técnicos
- Astral springboard splash Mercurio (7:05)
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:54
Review: [ok] Ordinary match, not even really picking up until the last half. The bit with everyone hitting a move on Mercurio was fun and some of the stuff before was good, but there was no real purpose shown in the match. They got thru three falls with the usual set. Any sort of direction with the guys would be a welcome change.
Match 3: Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Lluvia vs Dalys, La Seductora, Reyna Isis
Arena México, 06/28/2016
- técnicas
- DQ Dalys [excessive violence/too long on the ropes on Estrellita] (6:34)
- tecnicas
- Estrellita Star Gate (bridging backslide cradle) Dalys (3:18)
Winner: tecnicas (1/2)
Match Time: 9:52
Notes: Estrellita and Dalys feuded, Estrellita demanded a title shot and Dalys vowed to smash her like a cockroach.
Review: [below average] Not any good. First fall was very sloppy, which some awful dropkick spots by Estrellita as part of her big firery attack on Dalys. The other ladies wern’t doing much better, with Seductora even struggling to land her normal finishing silla. This was a match built around wild brawling with six women not really equipped to do that style well.
Match 4: Fuego vs Virus in a lightning match
Arena México, 06/28/2016
Winner: Fuego (La Guelaguetza cradle)
Match Time: 6:22
Review: [good] These guys have had better matches, but this was above average for lightning matches. Fuego seemed a beat slower than usual – and his elbow pads were really bugging him – but they did good stuff with him escaping the submission holds and landing the big corner plancha. I would’ve liked more drama, but this was much better than pretty much anything on this show until this point.
Match 5: Ángel de Oro, Guerrero Maya Jr., Súper Porky vs Bobby Z, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora
Arena México, 06/28/2016
- rudos
- Dragon Rojo anti-air missile dropkick Guerrero Maya (3:47)
- Bobby Z double leg takedown Super Porky (4:55)
- técnicos
- Super Porky splash Pólvora (2:56)
- Angel de Oro Skayde Special Bobby Z (3:00)
- técnicos
- Guerrero Maya suastica Dragon Rojo Jr. (4:27)
Winner: técnicos (2/1)
Match Time: 12:22
Notes: Maya wants another title match. Dragon Rojo wants a mask match. Maya insisted on a title match, which got him booed.
Review: [good] another one that’s just over the good line for me, but it was helped by Super Porky not being a focus. Angel de Oro looked really sharp in his usual moves and Guerrero Maya and Dragon Rojo interacted as well. Bobby Z should be the new Revolucionario, but he should’ve been one for like three years now and they’ve never gotten around to it.
Match 6: Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Titán vs Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
Arena México, 06/28/2016
- Guerreros
- Gran Guerrero top rope rope plancha Titan (5:24)
- Niebla Roja Furia Roja Mascara Dorada (5:38)
- técnicos
- La Mistica on Ultimo Guerrero (1:59)
- Guerreros
- Gran Guerrero Toro Slam Titan (5:09)
- Niebla Roja middle rope Furia Roja (5:09)
Winner: Guerreros (1/3)
Match Time: 12:46
Review: [good] Lived up to expectations; the técnicos were all very good and the rudos hung with them. Mistico and Ultimo Guerrero were unexpectedly fun doing mat wrestling to start, and Mistico continued to have a very sharp match. The Tuesday Arena Mexico crowd was totally behind him, which is a big change. They still have to work on the Friday people. Mascara Dorada’s dive was insane and he’s clearly not taking it any easier with the WWE deal in hand. Would’ve liked to see more of Titan and the other team winning, but easily the most fun match on the show.
