CMLL (SUN) 05/15/2016 Arena México
1) Pequeño Universo 2000 & Pequeño Violencia b Acero & Aéreo
2) Dinamic Black, Hombre Bala Jr., Starman b Grako, Hijo del Signo, Sangre Azteca
Dinamic Black, in ELITE of late and originally a CMLL trainee, made his debut on official CMLL (replacing a new? Mano Negra Jr.). Grako also debuted in this match. Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Blue Panther Jr., Oro Jr., Tritón b El Cuatrero, Sansón, Skándalo
Tecnicos took 2/3.
4) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto b Máscara Dorada, Rey Cometa, Volador Jr.
Luiciferno replaced Cavernario early in the week.
5) Atlantis © b Rey Escorpión [MEX LH]
Atlantis took falls 2/3 (Atlantida) to retain. 3rd defense.
Expected outcome in the main event and no other apparent storyline. Grako appears to a vague cowboy gimmick, or maybe the same bit as Bobby Z plus a mask. Dinamic Black started in IWRG in 2009. It’s a long journey to get where you want to be, sometimes.
Black Terry Jr. has photos of today’s Lucha Memes show. Probably should have more details on that one tomorrow, but it sounds like the big matches went very well.
This week’s AAA TV is up. I’ll go over it again when I post about the TV results and next taping, but the important details are
- AAA TV taping in Pachuca on 05/29
- Verano de Escandalo in Monterrey on 06/19
- LWC was already announced for 06/03 & o6/05…
- which means the next LU tapings will be June 11 & 12 and June 25 & 26, unless AAA double books a weekend again.
- LU tickets are usually announced two Mondays in advance, but they wouldn’t do it on Memorial Day – keep your eyes open around May 31st.
There’s likely another taping between Pachuca and Monterrey.
There is now a show on the Arena Coliseo schedule: Arkangel will have another Anniversary show at the building on July 16. They held one in the same building five years prior. Matches announced so far are a trainee battle royal (same as the one Flamita was in five years ago), Mima Shimoda, Dallys and Reina Isis in a women’s match, and Arkangel, Okumura and Toscano versus Stuka, Titan and Gallo. A full card will come out closer to the show.
I’d bet they’re back in Coliseo before this date, but it’s good to put it out there just to make it less of an issue. CMLL seems to pick certain people’s anniversary’s to celebrate: they wrote up Okumura’s anniversary, but there’s only a handful of other guys who get mentioned.
AIW, which is starting to becoming a confluence of US indie wrestling and Mexican lucha libre with the guys they’ve brought in lately, announced Flamita would be debuting on June 17th, outside of Cleveland. It’s a Friday night show; I’d find a way to be there for sure if it was Saturday.
Pentagon is swinging back thru the midwest in late July. The video of his appearance in Chicago’s AAW includes a bonus promo where he challenges Sami Callihan for a title match on July 23rd. They didn’t mention that before the live audience – they’ve got a show in June first, and they rightly didn’t want to steal the attention from Ciampa after the main event – and I can only imagine how unglued that place would’ve come if they announced it. That match is going to sell a lot of tickets. A week later, Pentagon’s also advertised for July 20th in South Bend

Lineups
CMLL (FRI) 05/20/2016 Arena México
1) La Vaquerita & Lluvia vs La Comandante & Tiffany
2) Esfinge, Fuego, Tritón vs Hechicero, Puma, Tiger
3) Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Cavernario, Misterioso Jr., Pólvora
4) Ángel de Oro vs Dragón Rojo Jr. [lightning]
5) Atlantis, Mistico, Valiente vs Euforia, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
6) Pierroth, Rey Escorpión, Rush vs La Máscara, Shocker, Terrible
They’ve gotten Rush & Mascara on opposite sides after the breakup much quicker than they put them on the same side when they got together. Rey Escorpion might be the new third member on the Rush/Pierroth side going forward (and maybe it was no concidence Bobby was back to teaming with Polvora & Dragon Rojo this week.) Semimain is almost a replay as this past week’s match, without Volado and Gran Guerrero. Cometa/Cavernario resume in the tercera, and the second match is way too good to be a second match. It should be a Tuesday main event.
ELITE (SAT) 05/21/2016 Arena México
1) Dr. Karonte Jr., El Hijo del Medico Asesino, Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Dinamic Black, Emperador Azteca, Tritón
2) Dalys © vs La Jarochita [CMLL WOMEN]
3rd match show
3) Shu el Guerrero & Súper Astro vs Blue Panther & Fuerza Guerrera [Copa de Maestros Elite 2016]
4) Carístico vs La Máscara, Atlantis, Mephisto, Argos, Valiente, Toscano, Ángel de Oro, Puma, Golden Magic [ELITE MIDDLE, cibernetico]
new title
5) Rush vs Último Guerrero, LA Park, Cibernético, Máximo Sexy, Súper Crazy, Diamante Azul, Hijo De Dos Caras [ELITE HEAVY, Elite Battle]
new title. Royal rumble rules?
The first Saturday card. It’s billed as a Championship Saturday, which is why that tag match is a Copa and why Jarochita is getting a title shot. (Though that one opportunity does seem to validate her decision to jump to this promotion.) There’s no particular explanation in the lineup the top two matches are going on what this means for the not-present Liga Elite show. On their Facebook, Elite quickly mentions these titles are independent of Liga Elite. That doesn’t quite make sense, because the tournament’s was announced as for the heavyweight and that’s brought up on the show weekly. Maybe I’ll have to go back and see if stopped talking about it this week. The show is still listed as airing on Azteca7.
I’m thinking the new plan is most likely to run Elite every other Saturday and stretch the TV out over two weeks, with Sabado Retros on most every other Saturday (and Elite free to run spot shows on those days.) There’s definitely two weeks of material on this first show. Changing to a show every week would mean the Liga Elite format lasts until this time next year, which just doesn’t seem slightly realistic. They may not have planned that out yet, but I wouldn’t count out that tournament finishing as originally announced.
(If they’re not doing Liga Elite, do they keep bringing in Lashley? If they’re not going to keep bringing Lashley, did they know that when UG submitted him clean in his second match? Did Cage end up with the best possible outcome by staying with AAA in a major role?)
CMLL (SUN) 05/22/2016 Arena México
1) Bengala & Leono vs Artillero & Inquisidor
2) Ciclón Ramírez Jr., Soberano Jr., Starman vs Fujin, Nitro, Retro
3) Esfinge, Fuego, Pegasso vs Misterioso Jr., Sagrado, Virus
4) Guerrero Maya Jr., Súper Porky, Valiente vs Gran Guerrero, Luciferno, Vangellys
5) Atlantis, Diamante Azul, Dragón Lee vs Ephesto, Kráneo, Mephisto
Never have I been happier that Sunday’s shows aren’t taping days. Diamante Azul returns to regular CMLL action (maybe, tough to tell with him.) Super Porky maybe wrestles in the semimain. Misterioso and Sagrado, given as much an onscreen burial as CMLL gives out, in that tercera. Ciclon Ramirez Jr. – who randomly showed up in Dragon Gate of all places for a tryout – makes his CMLL debut. Retro also debuts, and that name has shown up on a couple shows in Neza.
