Recapped: 04/18/2016
What happened: Mistico & Mephisto made the final of the Incredible Pairs tournament. Marco Corleone & Rush and Super Crazy & Felino turned on each other. Cavernario fouled Rey Cometa in the second.
What was good: The minis match and the tercera were the two most watchable matches on this show.
Where can I watch it: I found it on this channel.
Match 1: Bengala & Sensei vs Cholo & Espanto Jr.
Arena México, 04/15/2016
- rudos
- Espanto Jr. northern lights suplex Benala (4:35)
- Cholo middle rope moonsault Sensei (5:17)
- tecnicos
- Bengala triangular leg submission Cholo (3:43)
- Senseilock on Esapnto Jr. (4:21)
- fall 3
- Espanto Jr. tapatia Bengala (2:25)
- Cholo Driver on Tiger (3:28)
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 13:06
Review: [ok] quite the intimidating match to start a show I could just skip, because you really must question your usage of time to watch a few days old match with these guys. Match was fine by the standards of the four involved, but also unremarkable (and not a great usage of time.) All I got out of this was Cholo doing a flip and Tiger putting over the Cholo Driver big. Sensei didn’t show an obvious injury here, but didn’t do a lot.
Match 2: Astral ©, Eléctrico, Stukita vs Demus 3:16, Pequeño Nitro, Pierrothito ©
Arena México, 04/15/2016
- técnicos
- Ultimo Dragoncito huracanrana Demus (5:12)
- Astral & Eléctrico springboard splash Pequeño Nitro (6:10)
- rudos
- Pequeño Nitro front cracker Electrico (4:39)
- Demus valagueza Ultimo Dragoncito (4:59)
- rudos
- Pequeño Pierroth rolling crucifix Astral (4:06)
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 15:15
Notes: Pequeño Nitro has a toy chainsaw, is wearing a “Los Metalicos” shirt that looks a lot like Puma’s t-shirt. Referee is Terror Chino. Pequeño Nitro looks to be hurt after his own finish in the second fall, moving very slowly off Electrico. He continues on in the third fall.
Review: [good] another stale matchup, but they seemed to be trying hard and Demus didn’t nearly kill anyone, so it was one of their better matches. They didn’t seem to have quite as much time as usual but squeezed nearly as much offense in, and at least one new spot in the double moonsault to the floor. All the repetition have made them really good at this match but the total lack of direction hurts my enthusiasm for it – some combination of these six or Shockercito or Mercurio will be doing the same match in a couple weeks.
Match 3: Fuego, Rey Cometa ©, Tritón vs Cavernario ©, Hechicero, Vangellys
Arena México, 04/15/2016
- técnicos
- Triton guillotine legdrop Vanegllys (7:37)
- Fuego La Flashina Hechicero (7:57)
- técnicos
- DQ Cavernario [foul on Rey Cometa] (6:41)
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:38
Notes: Tirantes is referee. Cavernario fouled Cometa to break up a pin, though he claimed it was not a foul
Review: [good] Another group of guys who have fought a lot, but at least we haven’t gotten to see Cometa/Cavernario in a while. That was the focus of the match, though the last stretch had some equally good (and newer) Cometa/Hechicero exchanges. A lot of action in this match as well. They telegraphed it was only a two fall match by blowing thru their finishers without trying for a pin (and by being on a tournament show!), but that didn’t distract to much thru the match.
Match 4: Dragón Rojo Jr., Rush vs Mistico and Pólvora and Mr. Niebla and Ephesto and Bobby Z and Felino in a National Parejas Increible seeding battle royal match
Arena México, 04/15/2016
- Felino out (Mr. Niebla) (1:13)
- Bobby Z out (Mephisto & Ephesto) (1:49)
- Ephesto out (Mr. Niebla) (2:25)
- Mr. Niebla out (Rush) (2:57)
- Polvora out (Dragon Rojo Jr. (3:06)
- Mephisto out (Rush) (3:17)
Winner: Dragon Rojo & Rush
Match Time: 3:17
Notes: Rush sits on the steps and isn’t even in the ring when the match starts, which makes it hard to understand why the match starts without him. Felino basically eliminates himself. Rush goes thru the ropes to put on a handing armbar on Dragon Rojo from outside the ropes. Dragon Rojo and Rush actually understand the rules and do not fight.
Review: I’m not really reviewing the tournament because they’ll all about the same.
Match 5: Felino & Súper Crazy vs Bobby Z & Máscara Dorada in a National Parejas Increible eightfinal
Arena México, 04/15/2016
Winner: Bobby Z & Mascara Dorada
Match Time: 4:53
Notes: Super Crazy got along with Felino perfectly well until attacking him Felino with prompting when Felino tried a casita. They lost 10 seconds later. Crazy was totally the rudo. Crazy and Tiger yelled at each while we saw replays, and CMLL couldn’t possibly cut away from the replay to show us.
Match 6: Blue Panther & Ephesto vs Mr. Niebla & Volador Jr. in a National Parejas Increible eightfinal
Arena México, 04/15/2016
Winner: Volador & Mr. Niebla
Match Time: 8:20
Notes: Volador had a combo Niebla mask (I think?) with a white mohawk where Mr. Niebla might have his afro. Niebla didn’t have it this week. Blue Panther dominated the action in such a way where it was obvious he was going to be eliminated after one match. He and Volador forgot they had partners for a great while. Niebla and Ephesto wrestled or about 20 seconds after Volador pinned Blue Panther with a backcracker.
Match 7: Ángel de Oro & Pólvora vs Mephisto & Mistico in a National Parejas Increible eightfinal
Arena México, 04/15/2016
Winner: Mephisto & Mistico
Match Time: 4:33
Notes: this one pretty one sided.
Match 8: Marco Corleone & Rush vs Dragón Rojo Jr. & Euforia in a National Parejas Increible eightfinal
Arena México, 04/15/2016
Winner: Marco Corleone & Rush
Match Time: 4:10
Notes: Rush & Marco did not acknowledge each other at all. Dragon and Euforia worked together, but a dropkick backfired and the opposition finished them off.
Match 9: Mr. Niebla & Volador Jr. vs Bobby Z & Máscara Dorada in a National Parejas Increible eightfinal
Arena México, 04/15/2016
Winner: Mr. Niebla & Volador
Match Time: 3:41
Match 10: Marco Corleone & Rush vs Mephisto & Mistico in a National Parejas Increible eightfinal
Arena México, 04/15/2016
Winner: Marco Corleone & Rush
Match Time: 4:17
Notes: Rush & Marco argue before the match starts. Marco throws an invisible basketball at Rush during the match, mocking Rush’s football kick. Rush soon after dropkicks Marco to the ramp by mistake. Marco Air Corleone Rush by mistake when the other two move, and Rush and Marco start fighting. They’re quickly beat.
Match 11: Mr. Niebla & Volador Jr. vs Mephisto & Mistico in a National Parejas Increible semifinal
Arena México, 04/15/2016
Winner: Mephisto & Mistico
Match Time: 6:15
Notes: Volador & Mr. Niebla do not jump the guys in the ring, and it’s a slow start of posing instead. Match is pretty existing on the dive rain bit, with Mr. Niebla even doing a tope thru the corner. It slows down with the finishing pin break up stretch. Niebla and Mistico blow la Mistica, Mistico starts for the pin, then they try a casita, and get booed on that too.
Match 12: Atlantis, Carístico, Máximo Sexy vs Rey Bucanero, Rey Escorpión, Terrible
Arena México, 04/15/2016
- rudos
- Rey Bucanero rolling senton Atlantis (5:02)
- Rey Escorpión powerbomb Máximo (5:10)
- técnicos
- La Mistica on Rey Escorpión (2:11)
- técnicos
- Atlantida on Rey Bucanero (4:39)
- Máximo armdrag to half crab Terrible Bucanero (4:43)
Winner: técnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:04
Notes: Caristico is programmed ahead of Mistico for the first time since his return and uses the Mistica (though Mistico still won three matches.) Máximo is clowning around, trying to push Monito into fight for him during the opening fall beatdown. Atlantis wrestles the match in a generic shirt.
Review: [ok] crowd got into it (and like this as the end of the show more than the Mistico/Niebla issues), but this match felt as unnecessary as it looked, with those involved speeding thru a lower effort match than usual. Caristico seemed to be working hardest of everyone, and it was a surprise to see him use a Mistica in this match. Rey Bucanero tried a tricky headscissors on Carsitico, probably should not try that again.
