IWRG (WED) 03/16/2016 Arena Naucalpan [+LuchaTV, Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), Estrellas del Ring, The Gladiatores]
1) Alas de Acero b Adrenalina
2) Acero & Picudo Jr. b Black Dragón & Galaxy
3) Dragón Fly, Freyser, Zatura b Astro, Gemelo Fantástico I, Gemelo Fantástico II
Gemelos tried pulling the switch again, Freyser won anyway, and then the Gemelo declared the pin shouldn’t count because the wrong guy got pinned. That didn’t work, so Gemelos instead suggested a IWRG vs Toluca cage match.
4) Leo, Mike, Rafy DQ Factor, Rayan, Spector
IWRG vs Toluca. Straight falls. Rafy faked a foul to the DQ. Comando Elite destroyed the Turtles after the match and took their masks. Mask challenges followed.
5) Trauma I & Trauma II DQ Canis Lupus & Eterno
Eterno pulled T2’s mask while T2 fouled Eterno. Referee turned around to only see the unmasking and called the DQ.
Turtles/Comandos is going to be a big deal if they do it. I’m categorizing this as a new Zatura, and not the one who hasn’t been around since 2010. You never know with IWRG.
Homenaje a Dos Leyendas is tonight at 8:30pm Central Standard Time, but an hour later than usual in the US. You can find out the time where you are here. I’ve got a longer preview of the show over on Voices of Wrestling. The shorter version is it’s as good match quality show as any iPPV they’ve run, only lacking suspense in the big matches. The Mexico vs Japan match is the only storyline match where the outcome is in doubt. Still, that shouldn’t hurt the crowd intensity for the two hair matches, and the quality of the matches should be high. This is easily worth what they’ve charging for it, assuming you’re around late on a Friday night to watch it.
The show is available for $10+$2 fees on Cleeng live only. A friend got a call that their credit card was being used in Mexico after paying for the show. Hopefully that’s just a fluke thing, but maybe using Paypal (an $0.80 fee) to keep your credit card a step away is not a bad idea.
The biggest thing to watch for on this show is any hint of the Anniversary show main event. CMLL hasn’t really teased one, and while Volador/Rush is the most likely outcome, it’s still far from being certainty. It’s also possible tonight is Kamaitachi’s final night in CMLL – he’s spent the last few days talking about his favorite parts of Mexico, as if he’s saying goodbye – but they may want to get Fujin and Raijin a big win to take over his spot quickly. It’s also just going to be interesting to see if this week of remodeling Arena Mexico includes any physical changes to the interior of the lucha arena, or if it’s just stuff behind the scenes. (It could be a new set, but it’s a 60 year old building – they may have also needed to fix a lot of pipes or something.)
I’ll have results on Twitter if you’re not buying the show, and a recap soon after.
SuperLuchas looks back at Homenaje a Dos Leyendas losers. CMLL has their own preview. Eric also has a preview of the show.
Rocky Casas is said to be Heavy Metal II, who turned up on indie shows late last year. There’s an interview on Facbook with both Heavy Metals where the older one is said to be Rocky Casas’ uncle.
Elite says they sold out Puebla last night. This angle suggests not so much. They acknowledged the Azteca7 story last night and set they’d have more information soon. I’d guess a press conference on Wednesday. There’s no real other news about it, just amazement that it’s actually happening.
Chris DeJospeh was a guest on Afterbuzz TV’s Lucha Underground recap show. DeJospeh says LU knew who they wanted as Matanza during Season 1 and were pleased/surprised to keep the casting quiet as long as they did. There’s also some talk about how Bael’s death gave them the freedom to try more out there things, and the influence of He-Man.
A lucha libre museum exhibit opened in Centro de la Cultura y las Artes José Emilio Pacheco in Tlalnepantla. Blue Demon Jr. was the spokesperson for the project, which includes 500 pieces. They’re hoping to find a permanent space for the exhibit, but for now it’ll be open until May 7th.
ChilangaMask announced it’ll be Lio Rush facing ACH on their show Sunday. Lio is the recent winner of ROH’s Top Prospect tournament who got a lot of buzz for his matches in 2015. You can watch a documentary about him here. Rush vs ACH should be a pretty good match. The comments have people asking for a (Lio) Rush vs (CMLL) Rush battle.
The CMLL-RENA Tag Team championship is vacant; Narumiya and Syuri were champions, but Narumiya is retiring. No word what they’ll do with th ebelts.
