12:45. Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pierrothito b Astral, Stukita, Último Dragóncito LUCHA LIBRE MARTES DE NUEVOS VALORES EN LA ARENA MEXICO 16 DE FEBRERO DEL 2016 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
17:57. Rudos took 1/3.
3) Nitro, Okumura, Raijin b Delta, Fuego, Pegasso LUCHA LIBRE MARTES DE NUEVOS VALORES EN LA ARENA MEXICO 16 DE FEBRERO DEL 2016 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
11:39. Rudos took 2/3. Sangre Azteca was listed as replacing Fujin, but it ended up being Nitro.
4) Silueta b Zeuxis [lightning] LUCHA LIBRE MARTES DE NUEVOS VALORES EN LA ARENA MEXICO 16 DE FEBRERO DEL 2016 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
6:49. Silueta won with a missile dropkick, but the match seemed to end early. Zeuxis suffered a foot injury when she was armdragged on the ramp, made worse when a Silueta plancha to the floor landed short on Zeuxis’ feet. Silueta challenged Zeuxis to a title match next week and Zeuxis stopped the medics long enough to accept.
5) Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto b Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., The Panther LUCHA LIBRE MARTES DE NUEVOS VALORES EN LA ARENA MEXICO 16 DE FEBRERO DEL 2016 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
10:45. Hijos del Infierno took 1/3, the last when an eliminated Luciferno snuck back in to foul Blue Panther Sr., giving Mephisto the win.
6) Carístico, Rey Cometa, Súper Porky b Boby Z, Felino, Mr. Niebla LUCHA LIBRE MARTES DE NUEVOS VALORES EN LA ARENA MEXICO 16 DE FEBRERO DEL 2016 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
11:01. Tecnicos took 2/3. Caristico replaced Titan on Friday, making his first appearance on a Tuesday show since leaving the promotion.

Nothing on the show stood out positively to me, but the main event felt like the best of the show. A lot of stuff almost worked, but only almost worked.

On her Facebook, Zeuxis said it was just an injury scare and she’ll be fine for next week. Live, it came off like she rebroke her foot and would be gone for a long time, and Silueta’s challenge for a title match seemed out of place. There was a reason for the urgency in the title match: Silueta is heading back to REINA on 02/25 for three months and Zeuxis will also go 03/22 for two weeks. I was unsure that REINA was still a thing, but they have shows on 02/28, 03/20, 03/25 (Korakuen Hall) and 04/01; Zeuxis is probably working the last too.

Not sure if this means Silueta is intended to win this title before going to Japan, since this title program follows the usual pattern of hurrying a title switch before a trip. Silueta is the current REINA International Junior Champion, a title I also forgot existed, so she may not need a title to have title matches.

Today’s Lucha Underground is the fourth episode of the season, entitled Cero Miedo. Matches advertised for this show so far

  • Chavo Guerrero, Mr. Cisco and Cortez Castro in a trios mach
  • Joey Ryan debuts
  • Prince Puma versus Pentagon Jr.

Puma/Pentagon should be very good. El Rey’s posted the first moments of the match as their teaser.

Segunda Caida reviews Black Terry vs Rey Hechicero.

Black Fire made it to Germany. He’s getting in to an important match quick, challenging Kim Ray for the DTU Alto Impacto championship on Saturday in Bielefeld, Germany.

Laredo Kid talks about the kids he’s training in the US.

Baby Killer took Metal Drago’s mask in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. No name mentioned in the report. Yes, someone’s really named Baby Killer.

Lineups

IWRG (SUN) 02/21/2016 Arena Naucalpan
1) Alas de Acero & Aramis vs Adrenalina & Power Bull
2) Astro & Súper Astro vs Hip Hop Man & Matrix Jr.
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro vs Diablo Jr. I, El Hijo del Diablo, El Imposible [super libre]
4) Diva Salvaje, Pasion Kristal, Súper Nova vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Canis Lupus, Eterno
5) Hijo De Dos Caras, Solar I, Veneno vs Heddi Karaoui, Herodes Jr., Mr. Águila

Looks like no show Wednesday. Mr. Aguila hasn’t been here in a long time: his last match was September 20th, 2007. The main event is Dos/Herodes focused, though Dos may be off next week’s card for WWC.

CMLL (TUE) 02/23/2016 Arena México
1) Bengala & Metatrón vs Camorra & Espíritu Negro
2) Aéreo, Angelito, Fantasy vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Violencia
3) Hombre Bala Jr., Stigma, Súper Halcón Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Cancerbero, Raziel
4) Zeuxis © vs Silueta [MEX WOMEN]
Zeuxis fourth defense
5) Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., The Panther vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
6) Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero vs Ángel de Oro, Súper Porky, Valiente

Ultimo Guerrero on this card means he’s probably not wrestling Friday, which means they’re probably not doing Thunder/UG next week (though I guess they could do Thunder/Euforia.) Thunder’s going at least 19 days between matches again. The clock is ticking down on that being the Dos Leyendas main event, though there’s still time.

Semifinal follows up last week’s issue and may lead to a title match on 03/01.

CMLL (TUE) 02/23/2016 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Omar Brunetti & Vaquero Jr. vs Furia Roja & Joker
2) Gallo, Robin, Star Jr. vs Espanto Jr., Metálico, Ráfaga
3) Esfinge, Fuego, Pegasso vs Disturbio, Puma, Tiger
4) Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr., Titán vs Boby Z, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora
5) Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr. vs Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Volador and Casas matched up last night and match up here again, so they may just be taking that singles match around the horn.

CMLL ELITE (SAT) 03/12/2016 Expalenque de la Feria, Chilpancingo, Guerrero
1) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro vs Golden Magic, Relámpago (IWRG), Skayde
2) Fresero Jr., Halloween, X-Fly vs Apolo Estrada Jr., Canis Lupus, Eterno (EDM)
3) Carístico, Máscara Dorada, Mistico vs Black Warrior, La Máscara, Mephisto

CMLL ELITE (THU) 03/17/2016 Gimnasio Miguel Hidalgo, Puebla, Puebla
1) Mini Rey Cometa & Rey Infierno vs Amnesia & Súper Bick
2) Mini Multifacético, Rey Celestial, Tony vs Corsario De Fuego, Poseidón (Veracruz), Triple X (Veracruz)
3) Blue Panther & Virus vs Black Terry & Solar I
4) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Black Warrior, Sharly Rockstar, Súper Crazy
5) Ángel de Oro, Carístico, Mistico vs Cibernético, La Máscara, Mephisto

Elite continues to take steps into running touring shows, good news for everyone if it works. The Black Terry matches on both these shows seem fun.

Not sure what the deal is with the Veracruz (Xalapa) luchadors being in Puebla, but it doesn’t seem to be a one off random appearance.

great match roundup, week of 2016-01-30

I didn’t really like anything this week! That’s no good.

CMLL Arena Mexico: 2016-02-16

good part of a match I didn't like
good part of a match I didn’t like

Recapped: 02/16/16

What happened: Zeuxis suffered a foot injury in the lightning match. It looked serious, though Silueta went on with a planned title challenge for next week. Hijos del Infierno cheated to beat the Divinos Laguneros, which may set up a rematch next week.

Caristico made his return to Tuesday shows. Raijin made his streaming debut. Both looked fine.

What was good: Nothing really. I liked the main event the best but even that was a not worth going out of your of watching. There were parts of matches that were good but nothing came together and some stuff fell apart.

Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel. Read More

AAA on Televisa: 2016-01-30

all the splashes
all the splashes

Recapped: 02/04/16
Part one of Guerra de Titanes (01/22/2016, in Mexico City)

What happened: Dr. Wagner had a choice between getting a Mega Championship match and kicking Psycho Clown in the head. He decided to kick Psycho Clown in the head.

Joe Lider helped Averno & Chessman win the vacant tag titles, then immediately explained he didn’t want them to have the tag team titles. He declared his team with Pentagon was the best. Averno Chessman attacked him, but were attacked by La Sociedad.

Mesias, Averno and Chessman are out of La Sociedad. (It would make some sense if they were now all allied, but that didn’t appear to be going on.)

What was good: I liked parts of the tag title match, but it’s a reach.

Where can I watch it: It’s on plenty of places, including on AAA’s channel.

IWRG (SUN) 02/14/2016 Arena Naucalpan [+LuchaTV, Black Terry Jr. (Flickr), The Gladiatores]
1) Adrenalina & Matrix Jr. b Alas de Acero & Shadow Boy
straight falls.
2) Astro, Dragón Fly, Súper Astro Jr. b Atomic Star, Hip Hop Man, Power Bull
3) Diablo Jr. I, El Hijo del Diablo, El Imposible DQ Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
DQ not specified.
4) Heddi Karaoui, Negro Navarro, Trauma II b Emperador Azteca, Eterno, Veneno
Straight falls, as the losing team couldn’t get along. Eterno replaced Argos – which seems like a late replacement because Argos couldn’t get here from Elite quick enough, but Eterno also challenged Heddi for his long middleweight championship.
5) Herodes Jr. b Trauma I
They went with old school three way rules, where the first person to two pinfalls winned and the loser of a coin toss had to wait outside to start. Herodes beat Trauma I clean.
6) Herodes Jr. b Hijo De Dos Caras
Herodes won again, this time via foul, which meant he was out of the match and the others advanced to the apuesta stage.
7) Trauma I b Hijo De Dos Caras © [IWRG IC HEAVY]
Trauma I attached Dos with a chair, but Dos would get it back and beat him. Mask ripping. Trauma I got Dos in Lo Negro de Negro twice, but Dos escaped. Trauma kicked out of a spear and a backcracker. Trauma got his submission for a third time and Dos could not escape. Trauma I becomes the 23rd Champion, and is the first of Dinastia Navarro to win a heavyweight championship. Dos falls in his second defense.

Those pinfalls did set up a lot of rematches, if they desire to go with those. Trauma I talked about his big win to The Gladiatores.

CMLL (SUN) 02/14/2016 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara[Fuego en el Ring]
1) Ángel Aéreo & Rey Halcón b Diplomático & Guerrero de la Muerte

2) Carlos Rogi & Demonio Rojo b El Alteño & El Yaqui
Rudos took 1/3.
3) El Divino b Vaquero Jr., Mágico, Nautilius,Reycko, Sádico, El Chakal, Furia Roja, Espectrum,Relámpago [cibernetico, Copa Guadalajara]
A cibernetico in celebration of 474 years of Guadalajara. Divino submitted Furia Roja to win.
4) Shockercito & Último Dragóncito b Demus 3:16 & Pierrothito
Tecnicos took 2/3.

That kind of cibernetico would be the setup to some bigger match elsewhere, but seemed to be a match to have a match here.

CMLL (MON) 02/15/2016 Arena Puebla [thecubsfan]

14:07. Ingobernables took 1/3, the last when Rush pulled out Pompin to save Mascara from being beat by Rey Bucanero, then Bucnaero fouled Ruh.
6) Volador Jr. © b Negro Casas [NWA WELTER] LA MEJOR LUCHA LIBRE EN VIVO DESDE LA ARENA PUEBLA 15 DE FEBRERO DEL 2016 (posted by VideosOficialesCMLL)
15:12. Negro Casas submitted Volador to a scorpion in the first. Volador won the second with a back cracker. Volador blocked a casita took take the third and keep the title, after Negro had attempted one foul and faked another. Eighth defense. Casas accepted Volador’s hair match for Arena Mexico, and refused Volador’s idea to do it right there in Arena Puebla.

Volador and Negro Casas was great and much more of a match than I thought I would be; maybe I would’ve liked the rest of the show better if I didn’t worry about that. The second match was good too.

Caristico works his first Tuesday show since returning to Arena Mexico tonight. It’s his only show of the week, as he’s wrestling in Monterrey instead of his usual Sunday show. Caristico teams with Super Porky & Rey Cometa versus Bobby Z, Mr. Niebla and Felino. It’ll be notable if Super Porky actually wrestles; he’s last done so in mid January, and has been listed and replaced on lineups repeatedly since that time.

The other notable match is the streaming debut of NJPW exchange student Raijin. (His partner Fujin was pulled off the show on Friday, apparently due to a minor injury. Sangre Azteca replaces him.) Raijin teams with Okumura and Azteca to face Delta, Fuego and Pegasso as part of a ~100 so random trios matches he’ll hae in his stint, but this is the first one we get to see and will be interested for that. If you’re just tuning in for that match, it should start around 8:15 CT (11:15 AM Tokyo/JST) and will be able to be rewatched on CMLL’s YouTube channel after it airs.

There’s no ongoing feuds on Tuesday (which has been an issue with Tuesdays), though the semimain does have the current national trios champions Hijos del Iniferno versus the Panther family trio. Maybe something will start there.

Today’s the first taping for Megacable. It’s not expected to impact the YouTube streaming at this point.

Guadalajara has Maximo defending his heavyweight championship against Euforia. Maximo’s already beat Euforia to keep this title once in Puebla and it’d be a shock if he lost. The main event is Mascara Dorada, Mistico, and Volador Jr. versus Negro Casas, Niebla Roja and Ultimo Guerrero.

La Parka, Psycho Clown, Electro Shock, Pentagon and Daga will be signing autographs today in Queretaro to promote this Saturday’s TV taping.

Zorro says his team has taken over the trios division and the Reyes de Reyes is his next prize.

There’s a preliminary poster for the 03/23 AAA TV taping in San Luis Potosi, which will have a Perro Aguayo Jr. tribute. We don’t usually see the posters without a lineups, so I’m not sure how much those pictured relate to who will actually be on the card. It does strike me as odd that they’re teasing a Perros del Mal breakup going into this show, but perhaps that’s part of the story.

El Principe defeated Omega to retain the Jalisco Welterweight Championship in Arena Jalisco on Sunday. Principe is no longer the champion, though – he explained to Fuego en el Ring that he was going to start with Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, so he was vacating the rival building’s title. (I can’t explain why they didn’t just have Omega win.)

Mazambula lost his hair in a cage match in Nueva Arena Tijuana. Mazambula wasn’t announced for that match, had lost his hair just five months ago, and had lost it to Classico who beat him again here. That seems like bad lucha libre.

The Saturday show in nearby Gimnasio Oscar Tigre Garcia of Ensenada got a write up in the paper, though not a good one. The article says there were fights between luchadors which ‘were not part of the show’ (with allegation of one person carrying a fireman), beer was being sold at an event children were attending, and they might have not had any permits for any of this. Beer being sold and no permits sounds normal for Mexico, though also against the rules. The police department says no reports were filed to them and the promoter and Box Y Lucha commission didn’t respond to comment. The show looks packed on the promotion’s Facebook page and I don’t see any complaining about issues on the show there. People are usually quick to complain about those things on Facebook, so it’s possible there’s nothing to this story.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and this week’s Poster-Mania.

Black Fire talks about his trip to WXW.

Rey Escorpion says he’s coming back to CMLL before long, would really like to be matched up against Rush because he thinks they’d make interesting matches.

CMLL mentions Gori Guerrero defeated Tarzan Lopez for the NWA Middleweight Championship 70 years ago yesterday, which is a slightly different date than we had before.

The debut of the PILLA promotion in Cuernavaca drews 700 for Utlimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero and Okumura losing to Maximo, Magia Blanca and local Edson Michel. The area hasn’t found a replacement building/local promotion since Arena Isabel was torn down a number of years ago; the place they’re running now is two blocks away. Weekly shows at local restaurant by another promotion have been more in the range of 100. They announced a return date on 03/03.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 02/22/2016 Arena Puebla
1) Asturiano & Millenium vs Espíritu Maligno & Fuerza Chicana
2) Estrellita, Princesa Sugehit, Silueta vs La Comandante, Reyna Isis, Zeuxis
3) Delta, Esfinge, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Okumura, Sangre Azteca, Virus
4) Dragón Lee, Máximo Sexy, Titán vs Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto
5) Atlantis, La Máscara, Rush vs Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero, Vangellys

A show. No ongoing feuds. Fourth match probably the best?
