1) Erwin & Irving b Mazisito & Porrito [lightning]
DTU Kids, 10 man time limit. Money thrown in.
2) Wasson b Lokillo
3) Kilvan & Yoruba b Jimmy & Kevin
4) Látigo b Guerrero Mixtico, Drastik Boy, Adrenalina Fly, Johnny Idol, Dragón Celta, Tony
Latigo beat Tony. Latigo and Toro Negro made apuesta challenges after the match.
5) Cíclope, Crazy King, Miedo Extremo b Fly Star, Fly Warrior, Toxin
extreme match
6) Jinzo, Lanzeloth, Rocky Lobo b Magnífico II, Rayo Star, Sky Man
The Cara Lucha trio wanted to be called Los Magnificos Sky Stars, then lost.
7) Crazy Boy, Flamita, Súper Crazy b Danger, Joe Lider, Toro Negro Jr.
Team DTU (kind) won the last three matches, evening the night at 3-3.

Flamita was a late sub for Ricky Marvin. They switched around the match from a 3 way tag to a trios so they could do the 3v3 face off. Not a great turnout for this show; I wonder if the other indie shows this weekend hurt of the promotion versus promotion bit was not as big a deal as people thought. Not sure about the lineup in the fourth match, FWIW.

No IWRG results. They’ll turn up at some point.

Tonight’s Puebla show has Atlantis, La Mascara & Rush taking on Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero and Vangellys. (Vangellys is against the Ingobernables on Monday and teaming with them on Friday in CMLL’s usual style.) Last week’s semimain ended with Bucanero fouling Rush, so perhaps they’re heading to a singles match between those two. It’s undercard of matches which might be good if everything breaks right, including Dragon Lee, Titan and Maximo versus the Hijos del Infierno. Locals opener has Asturiano & Milenium versus Espiritu Maligno & Fuerza Chicana, which should be fun. Show starts at 9pm, there will be a link on CMLL.com

In an interview about Lucha Underground, Mark Burnett says they need to have a way for people to watch the series from episode 1, and make it easy to find and available. I guess the news is even the people at the top know this is a necessity, but it’s about 18 months since it aired (and plenty of months of prep work before that) and no one’s still managed to get it done.

Segunda Caida reviews Atlantis, Blue Panther, Negro Casas vs Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Solar I.

AIW will have Raymond Rowe versus Pentagon Jr. on March 18th.

Rey Misterio Sr. was honored in Rosarito.

The marathon show is back. It feels like every DF area indie luchador is either on this show, or will be replacing someone they no show for this show.

The main events aren’t my style, but both four and five should be pretty fun matches. Fourth is NJPW trainees on loan versus a former NOAH foreign and a one time Dragon Gate guest.

CMLL (SAT) 02/20/2016 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Pequeño Universo 2000 b Acero
Pequeno Univeso via senton
2) Apocalipsis b Leono
Apocalipsis win via pulpo variant
3) Inquisidor b Flyer
Inquisidor Storm gave the rudo the win and the tecnico a stretcher ride.
4) Hombre Bala Jr. b Disturbio
5) Canelo Casas b Hijo del Signo
Hijo del Signo replaced Esfinge.
6) Puma & Tiger b Guerrero Maya Jr. & The Panther
Puma snuck in a foul on Panther without the ref seeing. Said to be a very good match.
7) Rey Bucanero, Ripper, Terrible b Esfinge, Titán, Valiente
Esfinge replaced Super Porky. Rudos took 1/3.

Porky being back out of action is not a good sign; he appears to have been at the building. occupied with family issues. In sort of related news, the Arena Coliseo Monterrey show billed as part of Brazo de Plata’s retirement show is now just non specifically honoring him.

CMLL ELITE (SUN) 02/21/2016 Arena México [+LuchaTV, CMLL, Yahoo! Deportes]
1) Demus 3:16 & Príncipe Diamante b Astral & Eléctrico
Rudos took 1/3. Diamante wants a title match with Electrico.
2) Cinthia Moreno, Esther Moreno, Rossy Moreno DQ Estrellita, Lluvia, Marcela
CMLL team took 1/3, the last when Rossy unmasked Lluvia.
3) Fujin, Heddi Karaoui, Okumura b Jinzo, Metaleón, Rocky Lobo
Rudos took 1/3. Jinzo looked good in a loss.
4) Dragón Lee b Extreme Tiger
Dragon Lee won in a one fall (maybe lightning?) match via Dragon Driver , though it appeared Tiger was under the ropes and Terror Chino missed it.
5) Ángel de Oro, Golden Magic, Máscara Dorada b Euforia, Hijo de Lizmark, Mephisto
Tecnicos took 2/3.
6) Felino & Negro Casas b Súper Crazy & Volador Jr.
straight falls. Crazy was DQed in the first, beat clean with a Felino casita in the second. They meet in a hair match next week.

Felino is probably not winning in two falls next week. It’s unclear if the fourth match finish was something protecting Extreme Tiger or the usual screw up by Terror Chino. Alexis Salazar praised Jinzo & Rocky Lobo on Twitter.

MDA ELITE (SUN) 02/21/2016 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [Estrellsa del Ring]
1) Mini Hator b Mini Difunto
2) Chocolata & Dulce Kanela b Erika Sotelo & Larry Miranda
3) Gallardo & Golden Boy b Gato Fantasma & Último Sombra
4) Epydemius, Galactar, Último Ninja b Ninja Jr., Obsesión, Quinto Elemento
5) Carístico & Mistico II DQ Cibernético & Sharlie Rockstar
Rudos unmasked the tecnicos for the DQ
6) Máscara Sagrada, Octagón, Rayo de Jalisco Jr. b Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000
Mascara Sagrada replaced Atlantis in late January. Rayo beat Cien. Tecnicos took 2/3.

Not a sell out, but a good turnout for the show. They announced they’d be back on 03/20 with Canek versus Mil Mascaras. Presumably that’s actually at trios match with the guys from this semimain or anything but a singles match.

On the CaraLucha/DTU show tomorrow, the two groups split the six contested matches three to three. Flamita worked as a replacement for Ricky Marvin. More details tomorrow.

DylanZero has a fantastic detailed CMLL primer on wrestlingclique.com. I think my big takeaway is we’ve reached the point where the CMLL Bengala is the better Bengala.

Rush & La Mascara say they’re going to get a third Ingobernables, but they generally have to be as big a jerk as them.

Mr. Niebla & Demus defeated Herodes Jr. & Yoruba in Gimnasio Hercules, with the post match setting up a Demus/Akuma/? vs Yoruba/Kilvan/Wasson match. A Centvrion/Belial match was said to be pretty good.

Super Libre had Kristal and Divino in studio. The show mentioned there will be a Homenaje a Dos Leyendas show on March 20th in Guadalajara.

Ohtani’s Jacket reviews Jerry Estrada, Kung Fu, Herodes vs Misterioso, Volador, Angel Azteca.

There’s a Black Terry versus Aero Boy (and Drastick Boy vs Rocky Lobo) match in Tulancingo on the 18th. Hijo de Dos Caras seems out of place on that card. Not a comment on quality, but those aren’t the guys he’s usually with.

Rajin and Fuijin said they’ve be most surprised by the reactions of the Mexican fans at lucha libre shows.

Casandra talks about her life outside the ring.

Lineup

IWRG FILL (WED) 02/24/2016 Arena Naucalpan
1) Bambino & Canario vs Skanda & Último Caballero
2) Ángel Del Al Muerte I, Mimo De Cobre, Osiris vs Conde Negro, Guerrero 2000, Vampiro Metálico
3) Acero, Crisis Boy, Troll vs Fireman, Galaxy, Picudo Jr.
4) Leo, Mike, Rafy vs Factor, Rayman, Spector
5) Alas de Acero, Aramis, Atomic Star, Dragón Fly, Freyser, Kanon, Power Bull, Violencia Jr. vs Black Mercury, El Resplandor, Gemelo Fantástico I, Gemelo Fantástico II, Iron Kid, Príncipe Pantera I, Príncipe Pantera Jr., Psycko Kid [Copa Higher Power]
Gym FILL (Black Terry) vs Gym Toluca (Astro)

FILL show this week, against a group of Toluca luchadors. Astro being the teacher is odd, but I guess maybe the Gemelos wanted to get in the ring for this one. Los Kamikazes (Alas de Acero, Aramis and Iron Kid) are on opposite sides of the match.

CMLL (SAT) 02/27/2016 Arena Coliseo
1) Último Dragóncito vs Pequeño Universo 2000
2) Magnus vs Apocalipsis
3) Flyer vs Akuma
4) Oro Jr. vs Hijo del Signo
5) Soberano Jr. vs Nitro
6) Guerrero Maya Jr. & The Panther vs Puma & Tiger [Arena Coliseo TAG]
second defense
7) Atlantis, Blue Panther, Máscara Dorada vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero

That seems like a bigger main event than usual, and the tag title match will be great. It’s also the third Coliseo Tag Team title match in just over two months, which is definitely some sort of record. The rest of that card is no bueno, but the tag title match is going to be worth the price of admission alone. Maybe bring a book.

CMLL ELITE (SUN) 02/28/2016 Arena México
1) Lluvia & Muñeca De Plata vs Cinthia Moreno & Rossy Moreno
2) Eléctrico © vs Príncipe Diamante [MEX LIGHT]
Electrico’s first defense (last August of 2014)
3) Golden Magic & Metaleón vs Argos & Karonte Jr.
4) Black Terry & Solar I vs Blue Panther & Negro Casas
5) Carístico, Máscara Dorada, Mistico vs La Máscara, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.
6) Súper Crazy vs Felino [hair]

Infierno Elite, which is planned to be the last Sunday show for now. They’re going out with a really good card: beyond the apuesta match, the fourth and fifth matches are pretty interesting.

CMLL (SUN) 02/28/2016 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Capitán Cobra vs Diplomático
2) El Alteño & Linterna vs Demonio Rojo & Gitano
3) Cosmos & Frezzer vs Carlos Rogi & Mr. Apolo
4) El Divino, Mágico, Vaquero Jr. vs Espectrúm, Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno
5) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Omar Brunetti vs Joker, Niebla Roja, Puma

Atlantis working the Sunday Guadalajara show is unusual. The two locals in the main event are the two who were in the recent tournament final, so maybe a rematch is coming up.

02/19 AAA TV Results (Queretaro)

AAA

AAA TV (FRI) 02/19/2016 Auditorio General José María Arteaga, Querétaro, Querétaro [+LuchaTV, AAA]
1) Carta Brava Jr. & El Apache b Ludxor & Venum
Apache used the ropes to beat Venum, then hit him with a chair when he complained about it.
2) Daga, Joe Lider, Súper Fly b Argenis, Australian Suicide, Súper Nova
Lider beat Nova.
3) Dinastía, El Elegido, Goya Kong, Pimpinela Escarlata b Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Mamba, Mary Apache, Mini Charly Manson
Moved down a spot. Pimpi beat Mini Charly.
4) Villano IV b Electroshock, Chessman, Jack Evans [AAA Rey de Reyes, semifinal]
Moved down a spot. Chessman beat Jack. Electroshock beat Chessman. Villano IV beat Electroshock to advance.
5) Pentagón Jr. © b Daga & Taya [AAA MIXED TAG]
Moved to the 5th match. Taya & Daga won this shot on the previous taping. Pentagon appeared at the start of the show to acknowledge he would have to fight alone (Sexy Star did not appear) but would fight to defend the title anyway. Joe Lider seconded the challengers to make it 3v1. Pentagon was effectively the tecnico in the match, even having his mask tied to the ropes in Octagon fashion, but did get some help from Suicide running into attack Daga. Pentagon won and kept the titles, but declared it made no sense for one man to be tag champions and vacated the titles. The Perros seemed to be on the same page.
6) La Parka b Psycho Clown, Averno, Zorro [AAA Rey de Reyes, semifinal]
Psycho beat Averno, Zorro beat Psycho, Parka beat Zorro to advance.

Air Date: 02/27 & 03/05

The Pentagon Jr. story doesn’t hang together in text for me. Pentagon decided at the end of the night he could no longer be tag team champion since he had no partner, but he had no partner at the start of the night and he kept the title anyway. The counter point is he’s Pentagon Jr., Cero Miedo, and so he can never back away from a fight, but he’s backing away from a fight at the end of the night by giving up the titles. The Perros fighting and still being all friends at the end of the night is what the Perros del Mal are supposed to be about, but the stated goal of the rudo units in AAA has been to control all the AAA titles and yet they just gave one up when Pentagon could’ve just handed it to Taya & Daga. Maybe this all comes off better when you see it live on TV.

Realistically, it was probably just AAA’s best stab at getting out of an ugly situation. They didn’t want Pentagon (and Sexy Star) still to be champion, but maybe they didn’t want him losing again. Maybe they were okay with Fantasma & Taya being champs but didn’t want Daga & Taya because of some plans they had. Maybe the plans were to vacate it all along (though it would make Sexy Star’s reaction odd) or maybe they decided along the way to get rid of it. AAA knew they wanted to belts vacated and just appeared to be trying their best to find a pather there.

If the end result is Pentagon Jr. isn’t tied to Joe Lider as a tag partner, isn’t tied to Sexy Star as a tag partner, got an impressive TV win in the process and the Mixed Tag team title goes away until they have a real purpose for it, that’s a very positive outcome.

Also, it’s a positive outcome that all this happened on this Queretaro taping, because there’s not much else to talk about. It’d be kind of a quiet show without the massive drama.

As best as I know, Sexy Star is out of AAA. It’s uncertain where this will leave her for Lucha Underground. It should be very clear by the time those first tapings take place next month. With giving away a spoilers, Sexy Star ends Season 2 in a storyline which would make it hard to write her out appearing again (but one more appearance would be enough to end her story.)

Psycho Clown losing (apparently?) clean to Zorro is equally surprising if less dramatic. I’d guess AAA didn’t just want to pay Wagner just to do a run-in and at least Zorro’s getting a slight push at the moment. Jack being the first guy out in his group and having no obvious spot on Rey de Reyes is a strong argument for never doing podcasts.

working Rey de Reyes lineup
Mesias versus Texano Jr. for the AAA World Mega Heavyweight Championship
Blue Demon Jr. vs La Parka vs Villano IV vs TBD for the Rey de Reyes championship
Dr. Wagner versus Psycho Clown???
Aerostar, Drago, Fenix versus Zorro, Dark Scoria, Dark Cuervo for the AAA Trios Championship
at least two more matches

They actually probably have to announce this soon. This week’s TV has a Fenix promo setting up that trios title match. The Suicide/Daga issues seem to be happening on every taping, but there’s no clear sign they’re doing the mask match on this show.

That last Rey de Reyes block is Fenix versus Fantasma versus Pentagon versus a mystery person who may be Fireball. That should still be great, but winning seems like a punishment given the match you’re being sent into. It’s almost the case where I hope the mystery person is someone I’m not interested in and they win, so I can just tune out for the entire match.

Next taping is 03/04 in Toluca, though that’ll air after Rey de Reyes takes place on 03/11. It’s possible the Rey de Reyes lineup will come out this Wednesday.

AAA is coming back to Queretaro on March 15.

Marco & Maximo versus Rush & Mascara?, Casas/Volador, DTU

chaos to end the first fall
chaos to end the first fall

CMLL (FRI) 02/19/2016 Arena México [+LuchaTV, CMLL, ESTO,thecubsfan]
1) Arkángel de la Muerte & Metálico b Oro Jr. & Star Jr.
22:43. Rudos took 2/3.
2) Dalys, Reyna Isis, Tiffany b Marcela, Princesa Sugehit, Skadi
15:33. Rudas took 2/3, Dalys beating Marcela with a spinning powerbomb. Dalys challenged for a title shot backstage.
3) Ángel de Oro, Esfinge, Guerrero Maya Jr. b Dragón Rojo Jr., Olímpico, Virus
14:32. Tecnicos took 1/3, Esfinge beating Dragon Rojo.
4) Dragón Lee, Stuka Jr., Volador Jr. DQ Gran Guerrero, Kamaitachi, Negro Casas
8:50. Tecnicos took 1/3 in a fast paced match. Casas fouled Volador. Volador challenged Casas to a hair match and Casas accepted. Money thrown in.
5) Máscara Dorada © b Mephisto [CMLL WELTER]
17:19. Mephisto won the first with a crab/reverse campana. Dorada quickly submitted Mephisto in the second. Dorada won the third after six dives and a Screwdriver. Crowd booed Dorada during the match. First defense
6) Atlantis, Máximo Sexy, Valiente DQ La Máscara, Marco Corleone, Rush
8:41. Maximo wore a Bufete del Amor shirt with Rush crossed out. Marco and his partners were accidentally hitting each other thru the match and Marco refused to help beat up Maximo. Marco finally pulled Mascara and Rush off of Maximo, which caused Rush to foul Maximo. (DQ was for that, or for excessive violence, or for dropkicking Tirantes afterwards.) Rush and Mascara kicked Marco out of Los Ingobernables, though Marco said he wanted to be part of Bufete del Amor more anyway. Maximo challenged Rush & Mascara to a doubla apuesta match, which the Ingobernables answered by beating them up.

Earlier, Rush declared he wasn’t interested in facing Maximo or anyone else in a hair match. Maximo didn’t quite seem to change his mind last night. Still, that came off as a semimain tag for Dos Leyendas, and maybe an actual apuesta match for June or September. It feels like Volador/Casas is locked in as the main event, but CMLL still hasn’t made anything official.

The last three matches are very much worth watching.

I didn’t understand the Dorada booing outside the hardcore fans rejecting anything like peak era Mistico, but it was impossible to ignore.

I wish my match database was sortable by match time, because the opener is the longest CMLL match without something on the line I can remember. Maybe that’s a weekend project.

DTU (FRI) 02/19/2016 Autolavado VM, Tulancingo, Hidalgo[+LuchaTV, DTU]
1) Masizito b Luigui
DTU Kids
2) Gran Cobra b Niño De Cobre
3) Corsario Negro Jr. & Drako (Distrito Federal) b Hormiga & Paranoiko and El Chato & El Nene
4) Pesadilla b Exotico, Adrenalina, Lokillo
Pesdailla swapped placed with Idolo
5) Lanzeloth & Rocky Lobo © b Jimmy & Kevin [DTU NEXO]
first defense
6) Ayako Hamada b Drastik Boy, Johnny Idol, Zuzu Divine, Tony
Idol replaced Pesadilla. Said to be a great match;
7) Miedo Extremo & Sharlie Rockstar b Cíclope & Súper Mega
Rockstar challenged Mega to a DTU Consgrado title match on 03/01.

Sharlie Rockstar talked about wanting to win a DTU championship before the show. It seems odd they’re setting up that title match and not one for the main title. +LuchaTV heavily praised the semimain.

Today’s the first CMLL Coliseo show in two weeks. They were off for boxing and then canceled late due to the Pope last Saturday. The main event of the show is Super Porky, Titan, Valiente versus Terrible, Rey Bucanero and Ripper, but the most interesting match is Puma & Tiger against local tag champ Guerrero Maya Jr. & the Panther. It’s the only match being repeated from last week’s canceled show, and seems like the set up to a title program. Tiger will also be hosting the Turiluchas bus tonight.

Kim Ray kept the DTU Alto Impacto championship by pinning Black Fire, in a match also with the The Rotation & Da Mack.

AAA has posted this week’s TV show. Their results from Queretaro will be in the next post.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and the latest edition of the podcast.

This week’s Box Y Lucha has Super Crazy versus Felino, and a story on Sanely.

An interview with Fugaz of Xalapa.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 02/26/2016 Arena México
1) Astral & Stukita vs Demus 3:16 & Pierrothito
2) Blue Panther Jr., The Panther, Tritón vs Fujin, Raijin, Skándalo
3) Ángel de Oro, Dragón Lee, Stuka Jr. vs Boby Z, Kamaitachi, Okumura
4) Marcela vs Dalys [lightning]
5) Mistico, Súper Parka, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
6) La Máscara, Rush, Vangellys vs Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada, Máximo Sexy

Vangellys, full time third wheel, is quite the character role. The real news is here is the feud might cause CMLL to consistently book Mascara & Rush on the rudo side, which will improve everything. There’s no hints about a third man for either side, though that seems like something which might come down the road.

Super Parka is back, for some reason. That Casas/Volador match isn’t going to be this Casas/Voaldor match.

Dragon Lee & Kamaitachi continue facing each other despite no title challenge being made or even strongly hinted at. A Homenaje a Dos Leyendas with a top three of Volador/Casas, Mascara/Rush vs Marco/Maximo and Kamaitachi/Dragon Lee is a really fun card, but it’s not clear if that’s where they’re going. Marcela & Dalys seem to also be setting up a title match, and I guess Rush/Maximo is possible too at some point. (That’s going to be so good.)

Second match is a really good tag match with Blue Panther and Skandalo getting in the way.

Dorada tries to break thru Mephisto
Dorada tries to break thru Mephisto

Recapped: 02/19/2016

What happened: Los Ingobernables kicked Marco Corleone to the curb after sided with Máximo over Mascara and Rush. Marco & Máximo are reunited as a unit and challenged their former friends to a double apuesta match. Volador has the same challenge to Negro Casas, and might be getting closer to it actually happening. Mascara Dorada kept the CMLL Welterweight Championship, but the crowd did not embrace him.

What was good: Both the fourth match (Casas trios) and the fifth match (title match) are strongly recommended. The angle in the main is worth seeing. Skip the undercard.

Where can I watch it: It’ll be up on my YouTube channel. The main event is up on ClaroSports’ site. Read More

Dorada defends against Mephisto (and Casas next), AAA in Queretaro

two posters!

CMLL (TUE) 02/16/2016 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Capitán Cobra & Neutrón b Carlos Rogi & Mr. Apolo
Tecnicos took 1/3.
2) Robin, Súper Halcón Jr., Vaquero Jr. b Camorra, Hijo del Signo, Maléfico
Robin replaced Sensei (still out with injury?). Tecnicos took 1/3.
3) Cancerbero, Disturbio, Raziel b Soberano Jr., Starman, Tritón
Rudos took 1/3.
4) Máximo Sexy © b Euforia [CMLL HEAVY]
Maximo retained, winning falls 1/3, despite suffering an ankle injury in the third fall. 6th defense
5) Negro Casas, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero b Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Volador Jr.
Rudos took 1/3, the last with Negro Casas cleanly beating Dorada with a casita. Casas demanded a title match.

Negro Casas is pretty set on winning a Welterweight championship: first Volador, now Dorada. Barbaro Cavernario has the third one, hope he tries for that one too. This upcoming week’s Tuesday main event is Marco, Dorada and Volador versus Casas, Cavernario and Niebla. The title match will likely be the week after that (03/01).

Before it can happen, Mascara Dorada has to remain champion tonight. He’s defending the CMLL World Welterweight title for the first time in this reign against Mephisto. They’ve met quite a few times before (this is the fifth time they’ll battle for this title, Dorada winning the previous four), including a 2011 match where Dorada just did every crazy high spot he could try and then won with a submission. That 2011 match as the last title match to make TV, so it’s a bit fresher matchup than those numbers would indicate. Dorada’s almost certain to win, and this is more how he does with the crowd in his first big match since returning from Japan. Dorada is very skilled, but the criticism on him is not connecting with the crowd as well as others. Tonight’s a night to change that.

That’s the one sure high quality match on the show, but it’s probably not the only one with implications from tonight. The fourth match has Dragon Lee, Stuka Jr., and Volador Jr. taking on Kamaitachi, Negro Casas, and Gran Guerrero, in something that might finally set up a match for Dos Leyendas. CMLL typically will have a main event for their big March show sometime in the next ten days, and Dragon Lee/Kamaitachi and Volador/Casas are two of the most likely options. (Ultimo Guerrero/Thunder is conspicuous by it’s absence.) Volador has been all about making the hair match challenges to Negro Casas, who did accept Monday night in Puebla. Lee/Kamaitachi has had no challenges, including for the title rematch, but it’s obviously going to happen at some point.

Neither of those important matches are the actual main event. Instead, Los Ingobernables (Mascara, Marco and Rush) taking on Atlantis, Maximo and Valiente. Rush and Maximo had slight issues last week, CMLL plays that up in the preview and that also might be something for down the road. It’s also possible a teaser for the incredible pairs tournament, which usually takes places at this point on the CMLL calendar. It would have to start next week to get the final in before the Dos Leyendas show; the preview for next week is more important than usual.

The full card is here; the tercera has a chance to be good but also weirdly has the return of Olimpico. The show starts at 8:30pm CT and will air on ClaroSports.com. (Don’t worry if there’s a location warning on that link; they don’t switch it over to CMLL until this afternoon.)

AAA is also in action tonight, taping a show in Queretaro. While CMLL still has plenty of time before it’s March show, AAA show is a week earlier and their taping schedule means tonight’s show will be the last to air before Rey de Reyes. (The following taping will debut a day after the Friday night Rey de Reyes show.) It’s unclear how much this matters – much less so if this card also won’t be on PPV – because the major match is already made, but it might inspire AAA to figure out the rest of the card.

AAA has Mesias versus Texano set for the title match on Rey de Reyes, and they’ll make big progress on the tournament itself tonight. Blue Demon Jr. advanced to the final on the previous taping, and there’s two more blocks tonight. Group 2 is Villano IV, Electroshock, Chessman and Jack Evans, and Group 3 is La Parka, Psycho Clown, Averno and Zorro. They’re both random groups of individuals with no particular feuds. There are a few people to round out. Psycho Clown is probably going with Dr. Wagner at Rey de Reyes, Dr. Wagner isn’t in this tournament, so he can be ruled out. Zorro will likely be in a trios title match. Averno & Chessman could defend their tag titles, but that’s less certain the other things. La Parka seems like he’ll advance to give him something to do but Group 2 is more up in the air.

The most intriguing match on the show is the third match. It is scheduled to be Pentagon Jr. & Sexy Star defending the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship against Daga & Taya. I’m unsure what it’ll actually be. Back in early February, late one night, Sexy Star posted an angry message on Twitter that she was going to give up these titles rather than defend them. It appeared Sexy had been told she was losing, did not agree with that idea, and was attempting to find a way out of it. By the next morning, everything was deleted. AAA’s acted like nothing had occurred, while Sexy Star has stuck to mostly writing about her child and boxing on Twitter. AAA continues to promote the match, but then they’ve also promoted people who they were aware weren’t going to appear over the last six months (only revealing the change locally as to avoid commission issues.) I’m skeptical the match will happen. I’m not the only one.

For her part, Sexy Star says today will be a great day. She’s probably right about that.

The thing is – it’s the Mixed Tag Team titles! No one cares about these titles now, won’t care when they change hands tonight, and won’t care three months from now. The people who hold them may be the only exception in the world. There’s hasn’t been as much drama put into them on the screen recently as there apparently is going on behind the scenes. This match only matters if they build something out of it, because there’s nothing there right now.

The big onscreen angle in that title match is the possible dissolution of the Perros del Mal. Pentagon is facing his stablemates Taya & Daga, after previously having a falling out with Joe Lider. Lider’s also on this card, and could play into the finish. If there’s a breakup coming, it probably makes more sense to do it at the bigger Rey de Reyes card, but tonight’s show might push it more in that direction.

The full card is here. Bell time is 8:45pm, which means the actual card will probably start around 9:15 after a dark match. There’s no live video, but AAA’s social media accounts will have results. Jesus Zuñiga also will occasionally post video during the show.

DTU also has a show tonight in Arena Aficion, with a main event of Miedo Extremo & Sharlie Rockster versus Ciclope & Super Mega in a rematch. Miedo Extremo won a shot at Ciclope’s DTU title a while back, but that date hasn’t been set. Ayako Hamada returns to Mexico to wrestle in the semimain, a multiperson match with Drastick Boy, Tony and Pesadilla and a surprise women’s wrestler.
