Another pointless Tuesday show. I liked Hechicero/Delta but I always like Delta Hechicero. Cuatrero & Sanson are nice additions because they’re better than the Arkangel/Nitro class of guys who’d normally be in that match. Their match wasn’t Good, but there’s a promise of them being there in a few months. Really, that’s the same thing with Fujin and Raijin, who will give CMLL some different and likely better match ups than the status quo. It’d be much better if CMLL actually booked interesting matches or put people in positions to have them, but slight turnover of the roster can help where nothing else is happening (and CMLL’s best ‘booking’ trend of the last few years has been adding new talent to the mix.)
Fujin and Raijin are supposed to be on today’s CMLL Informa at 5pm CT. It’s their only streaming appearance in the near future: they’re working only Tuesday Guadalajara shows and Sunday Elite shows so far, and almost every other show is steamed. The other guests are Lluvia, Shocker, Okumura, Kamaitachi, and Mascara Dorada.
Lucha Underground has (kind of) announced three matches for tonight’s episode, ”
- Johnny Mundo versus Killshot
- PJ Black (debut) versus The Mack
- Pentagon Jr. in action
That’s the complete list of matches. Pentagon Jr.’s match will be set up during the show. PJ Black is WWE’s Justin Gabriel, originally from South Africa. There may be one more debut behind the scenes on this show; one of these characters has a new associate but they’re not seen in front of the crowd for a few more weeks.
On this week’s MLW Radio, Konnan says he’s out as booker in AAA. He’s still with the company as a road agent, and he came up with finishes for Guerra de Titanes, but the matches and storylines currently on are the work of Dorian and Joaquin Roldan. This is a fluid situation that’s changed a few times: he’s made it clear prior that the TripleMania card and the original December Guerra de Titanes card were not his, but the Heroes Inmortales show in between did include his storylines. (It did come off like a permanent change this time.) Konnan’s not a big fan of what was done instead, but he also sounds like a man who was tired of the stress of the position. Here’s a rant, started off by Konnan noting people ask him for jobs in creative all the time and Konnan explaining creative is not just putting names together in matches:
When you actually get in that position – first of all, why have so many people failed in that position, have you ever asked yourself that question? I mean, why have so people fai-because there’s so many inherent politics and filters and bullshit and shit beyond your control, plus the fact you got to keep – how many people are on your roster, you’ve got to keep twenty, thirty, forty, fifty people happy – everyone’s got to be happy.
You’ve got guys that don’t like each other, you guys that stand you up for money, you got guys that want extra money to do a job, you got guys that who want to hook up their friends, you got your boss who doesn’t like a certain guy or certain idea, you got so many variables that come in to making shit work. Then, if you use certain guys, it’s because you like them. And if you don’t use certain guys, it’s because you hate them.
According to Konnan, the Fenix/Mesias storyline and also the Pentagon/Jack one (which was supposed to lead to mask versus hair) are both dead. The Australian Suicide/Daga one is expected to continue. Konnan said there was a lot on Guerra de Titanes that didn’t make sense to him. He thinks it was silly to have Angelico & Jack vacate the tag titles when Angelico’s going to be back in a month and while they’ve had many other championships go undefended for months. He thought the trios title match was strange, with two teams who hadn’t teamed ever and one team that had teamed for three months, instead of any sort of normal team. He didn’t understand why they were going with Mesias and Texano as a feud when both have been rudos are in the same faction. (Averno & Chessman are confirmed to be out of La Sociedad though.) Konnan wasn’t harsh or loud in his criticism, but just didn’t think it made sense.
With all that said, Konnan felt Guerra de Titanes did well live, and credits it to the product being hot because he doesn’t think the specific lineup was all that good.
Konnan says Rey isn’t returning to AAA until some money issues are worked out, and remains open to a part time schedule with WWE but has no interest in a full time return similar to Alberto del Rio. Konnan uses Rey’s experience with the Five Star Wrestling tour in the UK as an example of promoters being dumb today, pointing out a lot of stuff mentioned in the Observer that they did that made Rey look bad.
Konnan was more harsh towards two people who left AAA:
Konnna says La Jarochita told the press Taya was getting paid more than other girls and it’s because she’s Konnan’s friend. Konnan says he doesn’t decide the pay at all in AAA. Jarochita complained when she started about not being used right, but Konnan says she came in super out of shape (“you came in fat”) and wore outfits that exposed it. “Now that you’re in CMLL, see if you can get by on your wrestling talents, and not trying to sleep around like you did in AAA with who you thought had power.”
Argos said Konnan stopped young guys from getting over. Konnan mentions Dinstia, Fenix, Daga, Taya off the top of his head as young people he didn’t stop. Konnan tells the classic Argos story: he and Semental had a tryout before an AAA show, and Konnan was very impressed with both. Except, once Argos was a tecnico on his own away from Argos, he was falling down all the times in matches and it turned out Semental had just been awesome in that match. (Konnan rates Semental as one of the top 5 bases in AAA.) Other wrestlers told Konnan that Argos was hard to deal with, and didn’t want to work with him because he was too focused on getting his own stuff in. (Those people would tell Konnan, not Argos, who remained oblivious.) Argos started to gain weight, so Konnan tried turning him rudo to see if that would work any better, and it did not. Argos just isn’t any good, so he didn’t get pushed – Konnan points out Elite isn’t even putting him that high and thinks he probably wouldn’t be used at all if not a favor for Myzteziz.
In a fun fact, Konnan says Perro Aguayo Sr. & Jr. used to call Texano and Silver King “big cassette and little cassette”, because they used to watch all the VHSs they could get from Japan to get ideas. It’s quite noticeable there’s been no talk about Lucha Underground TV on these podcasts; there’s even open to talk about it when Melina’s time there comes up, and both hosts kind of step around it. Maybe they’re just not interested in it this season.
In an interview from Guerra de Titanes with +LuchaTV, Sexy Star talks about being disappointed with missing the show and isn’t sure how soon she’ll be back. She does say it might be quick, and it apparently was so – she did wrestle on last weekend’s Lucha Underground tapings.
There’s Elite show in Juarez on 03/27 – or maybe 03/20, depending if you’re looking at Aereo’s comment or the poster. That’s a Sunday, so it joins the 02/21 Sunday in Monterrey where Elite is listed some place besides Arena Mexico.
03/12 RIOT card so far
Unmexicans vs Compadres Extremos
Alberto Dos Rios vs Psycko Kid
Tony Rodriguez vs Rico Rodriguez
Kratoz vs Kamikaze (ex-Viento Divino) – new
It looks like one of the Incontenibles took Arana Negra III’s mask in Arena Lopez Mateos. This was Arana Negra III’s debut match.
AAA’s uploaded their version of Guerra de Titanes part 1.
Segunda Caida reviews Virus vs Rocky Romero
Atomic Star talks about winning El Protector for the third time.
The boxing, lucha and MMA regulations are being updated in Ensenada.
Skayde Jr. talks about the show he’s promoting outside of Chicago with Atlantis & Octagon on Sunday, straight up against the Super Bowl. Good luck.
Lineup
IWRG (SUN) 02/07/2016 Arena Naucalpan
1) Black Dragón & Kaling Black vs Adrenalina & Vampiro Metálico
2) Astro, Emperador Azteca, Súper Astro Jr. vs Balak, Hip Hop Man, Novasonic
3) Diva Salvaje, Dr. Cerebro, Pantera I vs Diablo Jr. I, El Hijo del Diablo, Imposible
5) Danny Casas, Dragón Fly, Hijo De Dos Caras, Veneno vs Atomic Star, Heddi Karaoui, Herodes Jr., Trauma I
6) Hijo del Pantera & Pantera © vs Negro Navarro & Trauma II [IWRG IC TAG]
Navarros won in straight falls this past weekend to set up that match. Semimain has the finalists from El Protector to continue the Herodes/Dos feud. Some new names listed in the early matches (and Kaling Black is making his once a year appearance?)
CMLL Elite (SUN) 02/07/2016 Arena México
1) Centvrión & Fly Warrior vs Artillero & Cholo
2) La Jarochita & Rossy Moreno vs Amapola & Dalys
3) Dinamic Black, Fuego, Metaleón vs Fujin, Heddi Karaoui, Raijin
4) Golden Magic & Tritón vs Puma & Tiger
5) Juventud Guerrera, Super Crazy, Volador Jr. vs Cavernario, Felino, Negro Casas
6) Ángel de Oro, Carístico, Máscara Dorada vs Cibernético, La Máscara, Mephisto
You can tell Elite isn’t booked by CMLL’s normal crew because they actually use the Ingobernables as rudos. There are some promising matches.
Fujin & Raijin making their debut against two indie guys and teaming with the French MMA guy is so CMLL on the non-TV show.
The last match I have with Rossy Moreno in Arena Mexico was Febuary 23, 1990. There’s plenty of missing gaps in the early 90s, but we’re talking something like 25 years between matches in this arena. She’s another person who was working on the Todo x el Todo shows previously.
CMLL (TUE) 02/09/2016 Arena México
1) Flyer & Leono vs Apocalipsis & Artillero
2) La Vaquerita, Lluvia, Skadi vs La Comandante, La Seductora, Reyna Isis
3) Súper Halcón Jr. vs Disturbio [lightning]
4) Blue Panther Jr., Soberano Jr., Stigma vs El Cuatrero, Sansón, Skándalo
5) Delta, Esfinge, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Misterioso Jr., Pierroth, Sagrado
6) Blue Panther, Stuka Jr., Super Porky vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Vangellys
There’s no match that I think it’ll be better than OK on this show. That’s depressing.
CMLL (TUE) 02/09/2016 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Mágico & Magnum vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
2) Estrellita, Princesa Sugehit, Silueta vs Dalys, Tiffany, Zeuxis
3) Fuego, Titán, Tritón vs Fujin, Okumura, Raijin
4) Ángel de Oro, Atlantis, Dragón Lee vs Cavernario, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora
5) Marco Corleone, Máscara Dorada, Máximo Sexy vs Euforia, Kráneo, Último Guerrero
Meanwhile, Fujin & Raijin stay off the streaming shows for the moment. Their match look better than every match on this Arena Mexico, and this is the better card easily.
