Recapped: 12/16-17/2015
What happened: This show took it’s toll on people. Johnny Mundo bloodied Rey Misterio in the main event, then beat him with a foul. An Australian Suicide and Daga post match brawl left Daga with a black eye.
What was good: Everything! You really want to see the middle trios match, but this was a real good show of wrestling matches.
Where can I watch it: It’s on my channel, but go watch AAA’s HD version instead. (This is Xalapa week 2.)
Match 1: Faby Apache, Goya Kong, Pimpinela Escarlata vs La Hiedra, Lady Shani, Mamba
Arena Xalapa, Xalapa, Veracruz, 11/06/2015
Video: luchalibreaaatv, thecubsfan, luchalibreaaatv
Winner: tecnicas (Goya Kong splash La Hiedra)
Match Time: 10:58
Review: [good] Pretty much an extended comedy match, with the rudas bumbling around for Goya and Pimpinela and Faby getting offense in on Hijo del Tirantes for no real reason as usual. It was too much comedy for me, I wanted more mixed in, but the crowd enjoyed it. It was one of the smoother matches Pimpi’s had in a while and worked fine as an opener.
Match 2: Aerostar, Australian Suicide, Fireball vs Daga, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Steve Pain
Arena Xalapa, Xalapa, Veracruz, 11/06/2015
Video: luchalibreaaatv, thecubsfan, luchalibreaaatv
Winner: tecnicos (Suicide tornillo shooting star press Steve Pain)
Match Time: 12:31
Notes: Announcers bill Fireball as if he’s an unknown guy getting a big opportunity in this match. Daga and Suicide have a brawl post match, both men unusually throwing closed fists and Daga ending up with a black eye.
Review: [excellent] one of the best trios matches of the year, one of the best regular AAA TV matches all year. The rudos have been working up to this for a while, and they came across the right group of tecnicos. This was a match full of highlight spots done very well. Aerostar did slip on what was supposed to be the comeback sequence, but Daga covers up for that and Aerostar more than made up for it with his all time tope and the magic sunset flip code red thing. Fireball and Suicide got in big dives and a couple near finishes. I liked the selling in this match – maybe they didn’t really have the long term accumulation of other styles, but the 5-10 second reactions to the being hit by offense was great. The rudos generally came off as mean, laying into the tecnicos during the beatdown segment, and feeling like they were here for more than just to make the tecnicos look good. That beatdown went a little longer than usual, and there were other touches like the six way scrum before the end that messed with the usual order of things to make this feel a little different. Even the Suicide/Daga brawl after the end match added to this; I don’t think they intended for Daga to get a black eye, but throwing punches made that fight come off as a real and unique compared to every thing else. This is totally worth watching.
Noti AAA
- opening of the lucha libre exhibit at the MODO Museum
- Mesias walks up to Fenix to tell him he’s trash. That’s rude. Fenix disagrees.
- Australian Suicide is doing an interview about his career when Daga interrupts to antagonize. Daga isn’t well miced, but Suicide makes it very clear he’s willing to give Daga another black eye. Daga challenges Suicide to a match, though Suicide is ready to fight him right then.
- Daga, in studio, says he’ll get revenge for the black eye and doesn’t understand why the Mexican fans are rooting for Australian Suicide over a Mexican like him.
The Suicide, Murder Clown, Drago vs Taurus, Fantasma, Mesias match is repeated.
Match 3: Fénix, Psycho Clown, Rey Misterio Jr. vs Johnny Mundo, Low Ki, Pentagón Jr.
Arena Xalapa, Xalapa, Veracruz, 11/06/2015
Video: thecubsfan, luchalibreaaatv, luchalibreaaatv
Winner: rudos (Johnny Mundo foul Rey Misterio)
Match Time: 14:59
Notes: Pentagon Jr. his mixed tag title, which hasn’t been seen lately. Low Ki brings an American flag to the ring.
Review: [great] this trios had a hard time follow the last trios, but it still was a pretty good main event. This one TV match with Johnny Mundo and Rey Misterio did a better job of making me want to see their match than the promos have done. Mundo carried over his jerk personality thru the match, and to the finish. The chair shot to the head was the big thing in this match. It was very safe, which was good, but also ill-fitting since it was also the spot to set up Misterio bleeding for the rest of the match. It didn’t seem like something that would normally cause blood, and it only felt like that big of a spot because I already knew the blood was coming. It also happened so early that it wouldn’t have felt like a big deal if Rey didn’t wear white and wasn’t caked in his own blood by the end. The positives to this match were how the rudos really worked well together despite having never wrestled together; they had a couple cool teamwork spots amazingly, and they kept the pace of the match going well. Of all the things that happened in AAA this year, Low Ki in a match with a literal clown was definitely one of them. Low Ki didn’t have a lot to do here, but he and Pentagon Jr. worked well as a tag team and that would be something I’d much prefer to see again going forward.
