Recapped: 12/14/2015
What happened: Atlantis beat Ultimo Guerrero in a singles match, and demanded a title match next week.
The rest of the angles didn’t have a clear direction. Rush (& La Mascara) didn’t like Maximo in their match like usual, but Negro Casas unusually was friends with Maximo. Maximo kissed Casas and pinned him for the win, then challenged Rush to a hair match. That isn’t happening.
The repeated fourth match ended with Stigma beating Skandalo, and Skandalo coming back in to attack him. This seemed like an attack to set up a match, but no challenges were made.
The great new team of Lestat & Espiritu Maligno lost in their first match to Disturbio & Policeman. King Jaguar walked out on the ramp to stare at the rudos after the match, but his motivations were unclear and no challenges were made there either.
Thunder was not mentioned at all in commentary, but a video piece mentioning giants who had worked for CMLL included him.
What was good: Nothing was memorable, but it was a much more watchable show than Friday’s show.
Where can I watch it: It’s on CMLL’s YouTube channel.
Match 1: Arkalis, Magia Blanca, Rey Samuray vs Apocalipsis, Cholo, Fuerza Chicana
Arena Puebla, 12/14/2015

- tecnicos
- Magia Blanca top rope legdrop Cholo (3:35)
- rudos
- Fuerza Chicana cradle DDT Arkalis (3:03)
- Cholo Driver on Magia Blanca (3:30)
Winner: rudos (2-1)
Match Time: 14:08
Review: [below average] The Puebla guys tried, but bad performances by the DF guys let them down. I’m a fan of Cholo, but Cholo struggled badly at times in this match, including messing up whatever spot Magia Blanca wanted in the second fall. Apocalipsis was his usual not good self, and this match worked a lot better whenever Fuerza Chicana was in. Magia Blanca is looking a little better in each match, but I think his look feels dated.
Match 2: Espíritu Maligno & Lestat vs Disturbio & Policeman
Arena Puebla, 12/14/2015
- Disturbio & Policeman
- Policeman senton Lestat (1:25)

- Disturbio snap mare counter backcracker Espiritu Maligno (3:35)
Winner: Disturbio & Policeman
Match Time: 7:35
Notes: King Jaguar, in street clothes stared at the rudos after the match
Review: [ok] a lot shorter than I’d guess, which fit the pattern for the rest of the night. Lestat and Espiritu got along fine as a team, but this was so quick than than we didn’t really get see much of tecnico Espiritu or really Lestat either (though Lestat did not impress in his run.) Disturbio looked like the best man in the match. I have no feeling of where they’re going with this, but this match worked better than last week.
Match 3: La Vaquerita, Lluvia, Princesa Sugehit vs Amapola, Dalys, Reyna Isis
Arena Puebla, 12/14/2015
- tecnicas
- Vaquerita top rope elbow drop Isis (6:38)
- Princesa Sugehit satellite armbar Dalis (7:09)
- rudas
- Amapola Devil’s Wings Princesa Sugehit (1:49)
- rudas
- Isis corner pump splash Lluvia (4:31)
- Dalys Michinoku Driver Vaquerita (4:37)
Winner: rudas (2-1)
Match Time: 13:25
Notes: Princesa Sugehit replaced Marcela
Review: [ok] given the names involved – not a great group with Marcela out – this was better than expected. Everyone seemed to be trying hard, even if they weren’t always good. There were some good Lluvia spots in this match, which is not something I type often. Vaquerita had a good run early, but seems too slow to pull off her offense at times. Dalys seemed stiff, not in hitting hard, but not looking fluid on her attacks. Still, nothing went badly wrong, which is the bar for these matches.
Match 4: Fuego, Rey Cometa, Stigma vs Canelo Casas, Okumura, Skándalo
Arena Puebla, 12/14/2015
- rudos
- Canelo Casas top rope splash Rey Cometa (2:35)
- tecnicos
- Fuego inside cradle Okumura (2:57)
- tecnicos
- Skandlo Driver on Fuego (2:35)
- Stigma inside cralde Skandalo (2:57)
- foul Skandalo on Stigma (3:15)
Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 8:47
Notes: rudos jumped Cometa to start the match.
Review: [ok] this was kind of didn’t reach the high of the last couple weeks of the last two matches, but didn’t have the cringe worthy moments of last week’s Stigma/Skandalo interactions. It also didn’t have the time of the last couple matches. It seems like the end idea is still Stigma/Skandalo, and that still doesn’t seem like a great plan, but it was generally tough to care about this for a third week in a row with no direction.
Match 5: La Máscara, Máximo Sexy, Rush vs Felino, Ripper, Negro Casas
Arena Puebla, 12/14/2015
- tecnicos
- Rush & La Mascara double dropkick Felino (3:26)
- Rush northern lights suplex Ripper (3:42)
- rudos
- Ripper casadora cradle La Mascara (1:48)
- Felino casadora cradle Rush (1:48)
- tecnicos
- Maximo kiss of death Negro Casas (5:17)
Winner: tecnicos
Match Time: 10:47
Notes: Mr. Niebla replaced Ripper. Rush & Mascara wanted nothing to do with Maximo, but Negro Casas was good friends with him until the finish. Maximo challenged Rush to a hair match at the end, which Rush refused.
Review: [ok] maybe the best match on the show? They at least told a coherent story about Maximo not getting along with his partners, but getting along Negro Casas. It’d be much better if it was actually going anywhere, but something that had a point beyond just doing moves to a finish was a nice change of page. It also helped cover Ripper have some iffy moments in this match. Maximo/Rush would be fun if they did, even if not for the hair.
Match 6: Atlantis vs Último Guerrero
Arena Puebla, 12/14/2015
- Ultimo Guerrero Pulpo Guerrero (1:53)
- Atlantis casadora cradle (1:35)
- Atlantida (3:35)
Winner: Atlantis (2-1)
Match Time: 7:03
Notes: Atlantis demanded a title match next week, and Ultimo Guerrero accepted.
Review: [ok] exactly the match you’d expect for two falls, with about six minutes missing from the third fall. And really they weren’t doing a lot in the third fall before the finish – they stopped the match to poke the crowd in to a crowd reaction and, as soon as they got as loud as they wanted, Ultimo Guerrero ran right into the Atlantida. There was no point where either guy looked close to winning before the finish, because there were very few moments before the finish. The match, especially in that third fall, was a smooth professional match before that point, but it’s hard to believe anyone was convinced to come back for another one of these matches next week. Maybe they’ll go a whole ten minutes if they do the title match.

Would it absolutely kill them to just change the formula one out of a hundred times?? Anything at all! The main event was exactly what I played out in my head before watching, 8 minutes for 2 out of 3 falls? There’s about 3 wrestling moves by the time the third fall comes and usually the wrestlers act exhausted laying on the Mat playing to the crowd, only getting up for a near fall before playing the crowd again…. There’s so much that’s great in cmll but it gets lost in these ridiculous repetitive matches. And our reward is to see it again next week.. Awesome!
Some of the Puebla shows make me miss even the most mundane Tuesday mexico shows…
I remember just a few years ago when Puebla had quite a lot of solid main events, is it that guys like Guerrero and volador have more influence now and their style is now the template?
