Eterno vs Chicano , hair vs hair

    1. Chicano frog splash (2:53)
    2. Eterno attitude adjustment (3:39)
    3. Eterno Styles Clash (13:17)

Winner: Eterno (2-1)
Match Time: 19:49
Notes: Eterno is wearing a Predator mask for whatever reason. Hijo de Mascara 2000 is his second. He and Chicano start brawling on outside before the whistle. Danny Casas is Chicano’s second. It’s not really clear when the second fall starts; time is after Chicano stops beating Eterno on the outside and starts beating him on the inside.

Review: [good] this had to be better in the building; the crowd reacted to this like it was an epic match. It did feel like that at points, but it didn’t come off as strong on TV. It was a good brawl and it was solid wrestling match, but it wasn’t extraordinary strong in any specific fashion outside the crowd response. And the crowd was reacting to the match as if Eterno was the hero, so it might have not all been about this match. There was actually less drama here than I’d expect – can’t think of many IWRG apuesta matches that have ended cleaner than this one – and no big story.

Fuerza Guerrera vs Negro Casas

Arena México, 02/08/2015
Video:
Chivis Rios and R de Rudo

    1. Fuerza Guerrera reverse armbar (4:42)
    2. Negro Casas corner dropkick (3:44)
    3. Negro Casas casita (14:47)

Winner: Negro Casas (2-1)
Match Time: 23:13

Review: [great] once you can find a good camera angle of this match, it’s a strong match. (I watched a couple versions before settling on the Chivis one up there.) The first two falls don’t have a lot to them, except setting up a Fuerza submission to be a false finish later. The third fall is very long and tight. Crowd surprisingly favors Fuerza late in this match, despite him bring as cranky Fuerza as ever. It speaks to the different crowd Elite was drawing for these shows (a crowd that wasn’t interested in coming that often, it seems.) They both did more than I’d expect – I really didn’t expect to see Fuerza do a senton to the floor. Once the crowd took Fuerza’s side, they built the teases around Fuerza almost winning or Fuerza keep on surviving, highlighted by the many casita teases in the last minute. This didn’t reach a high emotional level but it was a very well worked match.

      • Extreme Tiger stardust press Super Crazy (11:16)
      • Atlantida on Ultimo Guerrero (11:17)

Winner: tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 18:21
Review: [good] Extreme Tiger should ask to wrestle Ultimo Guerrero for the rest of his life. UG made him look like a superstar in this match. Super Crazy got the short end of the stick, since Atlantis didn’t (couldn’t?) do as much for him and Tiger’s attempt at twisting 450 splash unsurprisingly ended with Tiger’s knee landing on Crazy’s sternum. Probably longer than it needed to be in the third fall, and still the finish came out of nowhere as if they had suddenly hit a time cue. They had plenty of time before that point, it just suddenly ran out. Somehow a top rope superplex got added to Ultimo Guerrero’s top rope moves of doom, and this just turned into guys going to the top rope for spots one after another for a while in the third fall.

      • La Park casadora cradle La Sombra (11:05)
      • Dr. Wagner pin La Park (13:47)

Winner: Sombra & Wagner
Match Time: 27:12
Notes: Both Volador and Sombra snuck in fouls before the final pin.

Review: [great] There’s a certain fear that comes up for me when I see a video listed as 46 minutes, like the one. It’s amplified when it’s late, this is the last match standing between me and being done with this and I’d really like to go read a book instead of seeing a long match end in shenanigans. This still worked well enough, feeling like an epic match with everyone going full out for the occasion, even more so than they would in the later matches because they had all this time to do every single thing they wanted to do. Sombra was at his most rudoness, annoying everyone including his partner. Crowd was into Wagner & Park, and the match structure put them as the big stars at the end (different from when they’d similar matches on a CMLL show.) I think this was probably an even stronger match live, because the crowd stayed with the match the entire way and rooted strongly for one side or the other. The fan camera wasn’t the greatest when Park & Sombra ended up fighting into the crowd, but TV would’ve cut that out anyway. (It’s kind of amazing LA Park passed whatever test it was to get hired, since bringing a chair from the crowd to the ring was an evident sign he wasn’t changing in the least.) The weak finish – the one non foul finish at the end is an incredibly cliched spot that needs to go away for a long time – drags down the match but is entirely predictable. This is worth watching for the action and the emotion, though you may get more out of your time by watching the later trios match.

Black Angel vs Dragón Black and Voltar and Alas de Acero and Aramis

thecubsfan

Winner: Aramis (reverse huracanrana Dragon Black)
Match Time: 10:36

Review: [good] This was not a good well constructed match, but this was entertaining for the chaos. These guys can do so impressive things, enough to make up for the timing errors and other issues. Aramis & Alas de Acero, who are now part of the Kamikazes, stood out as the most exciting of the five guys (and also the only two I really knew before the match.) Everyone had cool spots, enough to borderline making it numbing after 10 minutes. There was also stuff blown in ways I’ve never seen blown (like that rope flip.) AYM production remains bad, missing some moves and deciding every camera switch needed a slow dissolve.

    3. Ninja Turtles
      • Electro Boy senton con giro Teelo (9:00)
      • Rafy missile dropkick Hijo del Diablo (10:26)

Winner: Ninja Turtles (2-1)
Match Time: 21:43

Review: [ok] I’m doing bad at picking the Ninja Turtles matches. Gringos were alright and no one was injuries this time, but only Mike was doing any sort of Turtle act – the referees were doing more comedy than the other tecnicos. They also didn’t have a good night, especially in the third fall showcase, and this was just kind of a match. Another bad AYM showing; they only have two camera angles, who can they keep choosing the wrong one? It’s only a 50/50 shot of being wrong.
