AAA on Televisa: 2015-10-03

that’s a lot of flower petals

Recapped: 10/24/2015

What happened: Konnan passed leadership of La Sociedad to Fantasma. Cage attacked Drago (and other people) for no real reason, was attacked by Drago to cost him the main event. Lady Shani debuted and got off to an 0-1 start.

What was good: The Machine Rocker trios is great! The rest is stuff you’re not going to think about twice.

Where can I watch it: It’s up on the YouTube channel.

Last week, Rey Mysterio & Myzteziz fought in a trios match. This week, Rey Mysterio & Myzteziz will fight in a tag match. Also, other things.

Alberto versus Mundo promo.

Upcoming Events.

Match 1: Dinastía, Goya Kong, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Lady Shani, Mamba, Mini Charly Manson
Arena Jose Sulaiman, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, 09/20/2015

Winner: tecnicos (Pimpinela tilted bow and arrow)
Match Time: 8:25
Notes: Debut of Lady Shani, the ex-Sexy Lady. She’s given no particular intro outside of Arturo Rivera hyping her as she walks to the ring. Referee is Copetes.

Review: [ok] showcase match for Goya Kong and Pimpinela, which did get over but didn’t seem like the best use of everyone else. Pimpinela in Monterrey was sure to get over and the crowd likes Goya too, but Pimpinela looked bad at this match (and even had the submissions at the end falling apart as it was being called the end.) La Shani got very little for her debut. Dinastia could’ve been replaced by literally anyone, which is really disappointing for one of his matches. All three rudos pounding on Goya and Goya doing nothing but bending over was kind of not any good. The triple dropkick soon after was much better, but there wasn’t enough of that in this match.

Match 2: Aerostar, Argenis, Drago vs Dark Cuervo, Dark Scoria, Machine Rocker
Arena Jose Sulaiman, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, 09/20/2015

Winner: tecnicos (Drago Dragon’s Tail cradle Machine Rocker)
Match Time: 9:35
Notes: as soon as the match ended, Brian Cage ran in and attacked all the tecnicos. He destroyed them pretty good. This led into La Sociedad taking the ring. Konnan, Fantasma, Lider, Pentagon, Ciberentico, Daga, and Cage were the group this week.

Konnan bragged about the titles they held – Joe & Pentagon with the tag titles, the Hellbrothers with the trios, Fantasma with the Cruiserwieght, and the Reina de Reinas. Konnan said they’re only missing the Latin America and World Title. (I guess Dinastia got overlooked.) Konnan said Alberto is a mediocre champ and Mundo will take the title from him. Taya will defend her title change. Konnan then announces Fantasma as leader of La Sociedad. Arturo Rivera immediately wonders what’s up with that. Fantasma talks up the alliances with Cage, with the Hell Brothers, with his brother Texano Jr. and promises to take La Sociedad to new heights. Konnan quotes Roddy Piper to end the promo. This feels very edited; a lot of crowd shots.

Review: [great] Before the angle took over, there was a pretty fun match. They went at a high speed and kept up the match without many obvious problems, guys sliding in and out to just keep the pace going. Machine Rocker looked great, destroying the tecnicos and spinning around huge for headscissors. They did some comedy with the everyone in a headlock and being shot off spots, the tecnicos all got big dives and there was a nice dramatic finish with Aerostar & Argenis holding off La Secta while Drago got the rollup. It all just got completely overshadowed by the post match attack and unrelated promo. It felt like something out of a bad WCW Nitro episode; it’s only mitigated by it going somewhere on the same show. I’d say watch this, but then you may just want to hit stop as soon as the three count happens.

Noti AAA update

  • Taya and Brian Cage form a mutual admiration society

  • Joe Lider & Pentagon brag about being tag champs for a long time, say they still will be after Heroes inmortales

  • Jesus Zuniga runs thru the field for Copa Antonio Pena, wonders about the mystery man, and sends it to clips of La Parka, Cibernetico and Electroshock talking about what Antonio Pena meant to them and how much it means to win the tournament.

  • Johnny Mundo badmouths Mexico and Alberto.

Match 3: La Parka, Monsther Clown, Murder Clown vs Cibernético, Hijo del Fantasma, Texano Jr.
Arena Jose Sulaiman, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, 09/20/2015
Video:
luchalibreaaatv

Winner: rudos (Fantasma splash Texano)
Match Time: 10:01
Notes: UTDN exclusive, joined with no introductions.

Review: [ok] Slow paced comedy match, as you’d expect with these tecnicos. The rudos stooge around, do the fake break up, there are a ton of belt weapons shots, the usual. Cibernetico’s not in the match at all until the last quarter. That’s fine. Wish this match had more La Parka jumping rope, less La Parka wrestling. I was thinking maybe the previous match was maybe helped because they’ve got better at editing out botches, but then there’s a horrible botched La Park spot in this match so maybe not. Strange this match aired, even on UTDN, and the three way tag match didn’t air. Maybe something went very wrong, maybe they figured it was too close to the match they were going to do on PPV the next day. Guessing at that reason is more interesting than this match. There’s no reason to go back and watch this one if you didn’t see it the first time, except for the randomness of Fantasma and Texano pulling out a 3D.

Match 4: Psycho Clown & Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Brian Cage & Myzteziz
Arena Jose Sulaiman, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, 09/20/2015
Video:
thecubsfanluchalibreaaatv

Winner: tecnicos (Rey Misterio splash Psycho CLown)
Match Time: 14:35
Notes: Rey Misterio is handed a bouquet of flowers before the match. Myzteziz attacks him, and smacks him with the flowers repeatedly, spreading petals everywhere and starting a prematch rudo attack. Tecnicos make a quick comeback, but get cut off even quicker. Drago runs in late and mists Cage in revenge for earlier, setting up a Misterio 619 and top rope splash for the win. Myzteziz and Cage attacked the tecnicos after the match, with Myzteziz taking Psycho Clown’s mask and Cage take Rey’s. (Then they realized they should switch.) Drago did not return for the save.

Review: [ok] This is a long feeling match that actually wasn’t that long, but had plenty of fat on it that could’ve been cut out and generally felt like a house show match. The first half is a very long beatdown, with some occasional comebacks to try and keep it interesting, but was dragging by the time they finally changed it around. There’s a long dead period after the comeback too, highlighted by Rey Mysterio grabbing a plastic chair to the ring and the referee immediately throwing it back off. Maybe cut that part out? Finish was the classic AAA “tecnico wins and are immediately destroyed so there’s no point to the win” finish.

Psycho Clown doing a headscissors to Myzteziz is a weird visual.
