What happened that mattered? Psycho Clown won the Latin American championship from Chessman. Konnan put Daga, Steve Pain and Hijo del Pirata together as a trio (again?)
What was good? Everything! Three matches, all good. The Aerostar/Bengala/Argenis vs Daga/Pirata/Pain match was as great a trios match as AAA’s had all year.
How can I watch? It’s on my channel and on AAA’s as Tehucan Part 1.
Mini Charly Manson talks about his bodybuilding experience.
Match 1: Faby Apache, Ludxor, Niño Hamburguesa vs El Apache, La Hiedra, Mamba
Polideportivo La Huizachera, Tehuacán, Puebla, 08/31/2015
Video: Lucha Libre AAA, thecubsfan
Winner: rudas (Mamba powerbomb Faby Apache)
Match Time: 11:46
Notes: Referee is Mamba
Mamba’s winning powerbomb on Faby Apache looked brutal, and Faby needed some medical attention after the match.
Review: [good] Entertaining opener. The two sides mixed together well. The rudos in worked well together and against the tecnicos. La Hiedra is a nice addition; she didn’t do a lot, but she didn’t struggle at any point and would be like the fifth best woman in CMLL. (Also, her outfit with fake ivy leafs amuses me.) Ludxor didn’t do as much crazy big spots as the tag matches with Venum, but his dive at the end was sharp, with a nice arc. Nino Hamburguesa did fine and made me wonder about the level of freak out American wrestling fans if the same series of spots with him and Hiedra happened on a US TV show. Mamba seemed generally thrilled to actually win a match.
The 09/10 Cancun and 09/13 Ring & Rock Star shows are promoted during the taping.
Match 2: Aerostar, Argenis, Bengala vs Daga, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Steve Pain
Polideportivo La Huizachera, Tehuacán, Puebla, 08/31/2015
Video: Lucha Libre AAA, thecubsfan
Winner: tecnicos (Aerostar spinning DDT Steve Pain)
Match Time: 15:48
Notes: Referee is Piero.
Review: [excellent] An outstanding random trios match. Maybe I’m overrating because it’s a peak in among a recent run of AAA valleys, but it seems properly rated because it was massive display of big moves and built nicely to the finish. This match actually started with mat work and the tecnicos getting in good if low level offense, and then ended up with people flying all over the place at the same time. They were definitely not afraid to do a million things at once. Everyone looked super in this match. Even Argenis, who’d figure to be the low man on this team, had some nice runs and a nervous looking moonsault over the ring post to the floor. (I don’t blame him for being nervous.) Bengala and Daga look good against each other 95% of the tiem and then have a 5% of oddness – but the 5% oddness here resulted in Bengala crushing Daga with a pescado elbow smash so it worked out. Steve Pain and Aerostar need to have a million matches together, Pain is great at being there for all Aero’s big moves and is able to crush him at times. All the rudos were just destroying the tecnicos when they had their chance, and the tecnicos had some fun teamwork spots (especially the triple team sequence on Pain in their corner.) This wasn’t just a match for YouTube; crowd cheered big when Aerostar kicked out of Pain’s big move near the end, and cheered bigger when Aerostar got the win. This is everything you would want from this matchup.
After the match, Konnan tells Steve Pain, Daga and Hijo del Pirata (not there?) that they’re going to be to the next great trio. Daga points out they loss, but Konnan says it’s not important, they’re going to have the whole world talking about them. Daga and Pain have a whisper conversation after Konnan leaves.
Match 3: Psycho Clown vs Chessman © for the AAA Latin American Championship
Polideportivo La Huizachera, Tehuacán, Puebla, 08/31/2015
Video: thecubsfan, Lucha Libre AAA
Winner: Psycho Clown (Canadian Destroyer)
Match Time: 15:34
Notes: Seconds are Jack Evans and Pentagon Jr. Piero is referee. Pentagon interferes, as always, and Jack eventually crotches chessman on the ropes and takes out Pentagon with his dive. Joe Lider runs into attack Jack, and Angelico makes the save. All four battle or are dragged to the back. Psycho inside cradles Chessman in the confusion, but Piero misses it – turning around when Chessman gets his own cradle, but Psycho Clown kicks out of that. Match continues for several more minutes, with Chessman getting the ropes in a couple key situations but taking the Canadian Destroyer for the loss. Psycho Clown celebrates with his new title as Chessman is placed into a neckbrace.
Review: [good] the usual AAA singles match trademarks – lots of interference, lots of chairs shots – for about seven minutes, and then seven minutes of an actual match. (Jack is a hero for getting everyone dragged to the back.) Psycho Clown wrestled very hard all match, but shined with his dives right around the match ended. Chessman didn’t have a lot to offer in this match until late (and it wasn’t the brawls he’s done well with others), but was in the right place to take Psycho Clown’s offense and the rope grabbing buts built some drama into the end. This match had an actual sincere fake out of a double countout (with Piero acting as he only does when he’s going to make that 20 count), and that led into the CMLL-rific cavernaria spot. This was generally just a lot of Psycho Clown offense in the second half but they had more ideas on match layout than usual for these big AAA title matches. Crowd was into the near falls and Psycho Clown’s win, and it came off as a nice deal. If Psycho brings this effort into other title matches, and he usually does, this could start a nice title run.
