Black Terry trainees vs Eterno trainees. Atomic Boy betrayed the Black Terry team and Aeroman in particular, helping Aramis win. Eterno declared he wanted to now be the main trainer for IWRG and challenged Terry to a singles match next week.
An Eterno coup! Atomic Boy wore an Eterno t-shirt for years, so Black Terry probably should’ve seen that one coming. He’s lucky Electro Boy didn’t turn too.
Verano de Escandalo is officially an iPPV. This price this time is $15USD. I think this is end up doing worse the Lucha World Cup, because it falls on the same day as WWE’s Money in the Back and so the casual outside of Mexico viewers who sampled that probably won’t be back for this one. Still should be a good show, just happening on a tough date.
This week’s Observer talks about some of the politics of the Lucha World Cup teams. When ROH announced Moose & ACH as their reps, it seemed strange AAA couldn’t get bigger stars for the promotion (though both ended up doing well.) The WON explains there was an issue with ROH even sending people at all, because NJPW wants ROH to only work with CMLL in Mexico. That’s also why ROH never promoted their participation on the show. AAA actually asked for AJ Styles (for the World Cup and other shows), but were turned down because of AJ’s deal with NJPW. It’s not said if AAA asked for anyone else, but it seems likely anyone else in ROH who’s worked for NJPW (like ReDragon) or expects to (like the Briscoes) would’ve also have similar issues. That’s how you end up with ACH and Moose, though it’s also a reason it might be tough for AAA to bring those guys back. It seems kind of an unfair imposition on ROH, because CMLL hasn’t booked American outsiders from a different promotion in about a decade and there’s no sign of that changing. Still, of all these interpromotional talent sharing, it’s likely the most money is made on those CMLL-NJPW FantasticaMania tours and NJPW’s not going to jeopardize those.
The newsletter also mentioned Victoria was “thrilled” with how the reaction to Lucha World Cup. The plan is still for it to be a yearly event. My thinking is Victoria would have to stay on board to make it happen, so them being thrilled sounds like it may.
ChilangaMask added Belial, Arez, and Impulso vs Alas de Acero, Aramis and Iron Kid to their 06/21 Coaclaco show, which follows up with those trios fighting on the previous one. They also announced some sort of deal with Chikara wrestlings coming to Mexico, but no details yet.
Apolo Valdes has a great column about the struggles for young wrestlers: the difficult start into the lucha libre, the injuries, and dealing with veterans who are more interested in protecting their own spots rather than helping young people. He cites Atlantis, Shocker, Negro Casas, Blue Panther, Black Terry, Solar and Negro Navarro among those veterans who are the expectation and try to raise up the young wrestlers.

Lucha Libre in Japan
06/02 NJPW: Kyle O’Reilly [8] b Barbaro Cavernario [4]
06/03 NJPW: Barbaro Cavernario [6] b Yohei Komatsu, Mascara Dorada [8] b Nick Jackson
Both are eliminated from advancing, though they’re both going to finish with decent point totals.
NJPW also has put up last Friday’s main event, with no commentary and much longer post match than we’ll likely see on Azteca. (The match is only about half the running time.) The Ingobernables lose, but it’s really Thunder who’s totally humiliated in the end.
