Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush vs Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Terrible: [ok] Pushing TGR as brutes by having them destroy the last long reigning técnico team. That meant Rush had to suddenly stop being an Ingobernable for a night, and that the rudos had to lay out the técnicos even if they didn’t win. This might work if it wasn’t the same guys being recycled again, and much of this match felt recycled.
Volador Jr. vs La Sombra: [good] the story telling here was better the athleticism, which I guess is progress in some way? Volador and Sombra are so much more comfortable with the characters than a year ago, and the dynamic between the two carried the match where the action didn’t. Sombra’s arrogance directly cost him at times, including the finish. They still did crazy things, like Volador doing the dive into the crowd, but they did a lot of the usual near fall/break/repeat for most of the third fall. The pace of the match, especially in the third fall, was unbearably slow at times and the action in between the breaks didn’t totally make up for it. It was so little that I thought they were purposefully doing a “more out of less” bit, until it turned out to be the usual match. Show ending replays showed they cut out at least a couple minutes of the match. Might have liked the match more with it, or maybe it would’ve felt like it dragged more. Actually entertaining Mascara wackiness when he decided he had to switch hoodies in between run-ins.
