Astral vs Eléctrico, Fantasy, Último Dragoncito, Shockercito, Demus 3:16, Pierrothito, Pequeño Olímpico, Pequeño Nitro, Mercurio in a Pequeno Reyes del Aire match: [great] a memorable cibernetico for sure, and one that was exciting even beyond it’s near death. This is going to be remembered as the one where Astral nearly killed himself on a missed tope into the barricade. The guy sprinting the stretcher out certainly thought Astral was in bade shape, even though he turned out to be fine later. This otherwise seemed to be Shockercito’s match, but he nearly took himself out too with the missed headscissors to the floor. Pierrothito, Mercurio and Shockercito all reacted to Astral’s injury in ways where it seemed at least possible plans were changing. Not what would’ve happened if Shockercito couldn’t continued as well. Shockercito and Demus did much better with the four rotation headscissors (!) and the ending minutes with Shockercito and Pierrothito was well done. The moment where Shockercito did the same dive as Astral and Tirantes freaked out was pretty great. There weren’t as many other standouts in this match as others of this type, though Mercurio looked good (and caused that woman in front woman to scream a couple times by going over the barricade.) This is a slow starting match but they’ve got 28 minutes so they might as well take their time to get there.
Soberano Jr. & Star Jr. vs Cholo & Ramstein for the mask: [OK] this should’ve been an easy Great. Star Jr. & Soberano Jr. were up for this and looked great, Cholo had his best match ever, and the crowd was into this. Ramstein was awful, the worst big match performance in memory, and he just about killed the match. It’s tough to put it lower than OK given the other parts of the match, but Ramstein was about as bad as you could be for a while, botching every single thing he did for a few minutes, recovering for a little bit, then getting useless again on the finishes. Crowd turned on the match at the end because, at least in part, Ramstein was so bad. It was like he lost the ability to bend at the waist for a while, but he also lost the ability to move into correct position for a dive (twice) and lost the ability not to drop Star Jr. on his head. I don’t think he was on something, I think he was just really bad at the wrong time. It’s too bad, this would be a really fun match with even an average performance by the fourth match.
Dragón Rojo Jr., La Máscara, Marco Corleone vs Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero: [OK] by the numbers average match squeezed into a short amount of time. It’s a super rare Ultimo Guerrero Tuesday appearance (on a show that didn’t benefit from having him on it any way) and a seemingly rare clean win for Ultimo Guerrero. This happened, I saw it, I moved not the next time.
Volador Jr. vs Rey Bucanero: [good] Better than I thought it would be – borderline but it makes it on the good side of the line just for slightly overachieving. Bucanero really can’t do the Volador spot fest match, but they found another way to do it where people actually got multiple moves in a row (!) and drama was built on things besides near falls (!!). The turnbuckle spot in the first fall was really strange when it was done because it never came back into play again, and it’s not a spot done here commonly. (Bucanero might have used it before during his light heavyweight title reign, if I’m remembering right.) They needed shortcuts to get Bucanero and advantage and found some, and Volador did some near with superkicking a leaping Bucanero being up there. The Zacarias interference was random but they ended up in the same place and did something they thought the kids would enjoy, so it’s all fine.
