CMLL FantasticaMania 2015 Day 1 quick review

Tonight and tomorrow’s’s CMLL FantasticaMania show will be available on NJPW World for subscribers. Two other shows will air weeks from now on SamuraiTV. The first show of the tour is already out, on RealHero’s DailyMotion channel. Quick reviews:

Rey Cometa & Tritón vs Bárbaro Cavernario & Mr. Niebla [OK]: was going OK until Niebla decided to be a klutz and fell on Triton’s knee. Triton really shouldn’t have tried the dive after, but it’s his first match in Japan so of course he would. Cometa got out of the match well and I have no idea how he got hurt. Must’ve been something between the shows. Crowd did like Peste Negra quickly, though some of Niebla’s antics were going over their heads.

Ángel de Oro vs Okumura in a lightning match: [OK] incredible generic lightning Angel de Oro match, CHECK. I’m thinking this one which had to play a lot better to people not used to Angel de Oro, and Angel de Oro actually had to find something new to do around minute 8, but this also might have been better in CMLL because there’s no way they would’ve got 10 minutes. Okumura’s DDT on the apron looked cool and he was trying. Polite applause for a draw was kind of weird.

Jushin Liger & Mistico vs Gedo & Pólvora [ok]: Mistico did very little early and did not look good doing it, but was redeemed in the last couple minutes with some good near falls. Mistico didn’t do much that would cause him to stick out if he wasn’t already Mistico. Polvora really didn’t show much either and Gedo & Lyger were just there to be names. The rudo section really dragged, and only the last few minutes saved it from being below average.

Stigma, Stuka Jr., Tiger Mask vs Mephisto, Shinsuke Nakamura, YOSHI-HASHI: [good] nice trios match to build up Mephsito/Stuka, which came across like a feud that’s been going for some time (and not one just invented for this tour.) Stigma did well, even if stealing Stukita’s pose is no bueno. This felt like Nakamura was fighting much beneath his weight but he also didn’t mail it in.

Captain New Japan, Kushida, Máscara Dorada vs La Sombra, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tetsuya Naito: [good]: kind of want to declare Dorada/Sombra a MOTYC days before it occurs just based on the interactions in this match. They are more than ready for this match and it’s going to be fantastic. This was good too, with both teams mixing well; the Taguchi/Naito/Sombra side worked particularly well. I could use a little less Captain New Japan, but that’s the match they were working.

Atlantis, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Volador Jr. vs Gran Guerrero, Kazuchika Okada, Último Guerrero [good]: best match on the show, with guys going out a little stronger for the main event. Ultimo always steps it for Japan and he was working hard here. Gran Guerrero impressed, working well with Volador after an early stumble and breaking out new offense. It looked like he might be okay with Volador after all; it gave me much more hope for that for sure. Atlantis did Atlantis things, Volador showed off a lot, and Tanahashi & Okada were their normal self. It was weird when Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero were hyping up their match and I suddenly understood half the things which were being said.

Atlantis & Mascara Dorada win tag tournament (again), Angel de Oro retains, CMLL show in Mexico also occurs

8) Atlantis & Máscara Dorada b Gran Guerrero & Último Guerrero [final]
16:54. Atlantida on Ultimo Guerrero. The two meet tomorrow in a singles match.

300 is a sell out in the small building. This show was taped for SamuraiTV, but I’m unsure of the air date.

This is the third tournament Atlantis & Mascara Dorada have won as a tag team, after winning the two National Parajes Increibles Tournaments.

Cometa back in action is nice to see. Cavernario and Cometa probably will only get 10 minutes this time around, but it’ll be ten good minutes.

That’s still a couple days away. The big matches tomorrow (3:30 AM Mexico City time) are Volador vs Gran Guerrero, Stuka Jr. vs Mephisto and Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis. I’ll be on Twitter during the show and post results soon after.

CMLL (FRI) 01/16/2015 Arena México [CMLL, Notimex]

Rudos took 1/3.
6) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Valiente DQ Euforia, Terrible, Thunder
Straight falls. Thunder fouled Maximo.

A very routine show. Hoping the 3rd makes air somehow, though they’ve tended to show the women’s match of late.

Sabado Retros has Sagrado, Misterioso, and Negro Casas versus La Mascara, Guerrero May Jr., Delta in the main event. That’s expected to lead to an Arena Coliseo tag title defense, as noted in the preview.

Hechicero feels he made a mark in CMLL last year and wants to go after people this year.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Apolo Valdes looks at what might happen in 2015 lucha libre.

LV has a review of FantasticaMania day 1.

SuperLuchas talks about the start of a Mexican Welterweight tournament in 1941 (which seems to invalidate the champions of 1940.)

The Canek vs Mr. Jack title match will air on Leyendas Inmortales this weekend.

An interview with promoters in Morelia.

Gym FILL (Black Terry) vs Gym Metropolitano (Super Pinocho)

Even though they’ve got the AAA taping on Friday, the Wedensday show returns in the form of a FILL show. I don’t think I’ve seen any of Super Pinocho’s guys, though they have been wrestling around Mexico State.

CMLL (FRI) 01/23/2015 Arena México
1) Flyer & Sensei vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Oro Jr., Pegasso, Tritón vs Boby Zavala, Sangre Azteca, Virus

6) Máximo, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Último Guerrero

The return of Mistico and the others who were on the FantasticaMania tour. Volador & Bucanero are together again in the main event, but it really should be ablet Mistico coming back in one piece.

Semimain has the tag team champions together against the only unit really challenging them. Lightning match continues the recent Kamaitachi spotlight chances.

Marcela handles the video promo.

01/30 AAA TV Lineup (Toluca)

AAA TV (FRI) 01/30/2015 Gimnasio Agustín Millán, Toluca, Estado de México
1) ? vs ??
2) Mascarita Sagrada, Mini Drago, Octagoncito vs Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Charly Manson, Mini Psycho Clown
3) Bengala, Drago, Faby Apache vs Joe Lider, Súper Fly, Taya Valkyrie
4) Angélico & Jack Evans vs Averno & Chessman
5) La Parka vs El Mesías, Cibernético, Parka Negra [Rey de Reyes, semifinal]
6) Fénix, Myzteziz, Psycho Clown vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagón Jr.

Air Date:  02/07 – and maybe 02/14 assuming that’s a Carta Brava match and not just a locals ones. They’ve been more Carta Brava-ish of late.

Myzteziz vs Perro appears to be the spine of the main event again, with Fantasma replacing Texano and Fenix & Pentagon being added in.

La Parka has a chance to defend his 2014 Rey de Reyes win against his old rival (Parka Negra) and the guy who possibly could be his current rival (Cibernetico.) Mesias messed up his arm something fierce in last year’s Rey de Reyes qualifer, so this year’s can only go better for him.

Angelico & Jack vs Averno & Chessman could be the best match of the show if it’s not an angle this time; the match got derailed to set up the Hell Brothers forming last time. Minis match has a good chance too and the second match should be well received. Toluca’s always good for AAA TV.

Alberto and Sexy Star stick out as two important people who haven’t been seen yet. Only two shows in.

No next taping is announced after this, though it’s possible we could see something announced on AAA TV this weekend. Last year also started with Naucalpan & Toluca, then to Guerrero Negro for the tourism sponsored show and Ecatepec for a normal taping. Maybe back to Ecatepec again this year?

CMLL Arena Mexico preview, Rey Cometa, Lucha Underground

Tonight’s Arena Mexico main event is Marco Corleone, Maximo, Valiente versus Euforia, Terrible, and Thunder in a main event that could’ve been the main event of any other show in the main event. More interesting stuff is found on the undercard, especially the tercera of Dragon Lee, Pegasso, and Blue Panther Jr. vs Kamataichi, Puma, and Tiger. That continues the Dragon Lee/Kamaitachi feud and picks up the Panthers/Cats issue again. It’s in a spot where it normally doesn’t get on TV, but might since the Dragon Lee/Kamaitachi issue is going somewhere. Sexy Team (Dark Angel, Estrellita and Goya Kong) team up for the first time in 4 months (and only the second time in 10 months), facing Amapola, Dalys and Tiffany. Estrellita hasn’t been in Arena Mexico since Dalys dropped her on her head, perhaps they’ll pick that up today.

CMLL’s show tomorrow (morning, our time) has the one night tag team tournament and the Angel de Oro/Okumura CMLL LH championship match. A title change would be a significant surprise, though it’d also easily explain why Angel de Oro won the title in the first place. Rey Cometa is scheduled to team with Stuka Jr. and is hopeful of doing so; he posted on Facebook that he was getting his knee checked when they returned back to Tokyo and wants to get back in the ring. (He’s also a new dad again, of a boy.)

Syuri, as the CMLL World Women’s Championship, will appear on the 01/19 FantasticaMania show. She’ll appear before the second match to help give flowers to Naito & Taguchi. They’ve had CMLL & REINA women do this on previous year’s shows.

Lucha Underground starts taping Saturday. It’s supposed to be double tapings every day, so they’ll have about a month’s worth of shows by Monday. (I’d love to get results and any other thoughts about the shows.) Some of the wrestlers made it to the Temple yesterday (Fenix?), some appear to be going today. Aerostar mentioned he and Argenis were heading to Los Angeles this morning; I know some people were wondering if Aero was just in for one weekend, but it appears like he’s back for more.

I’d assume those names working on the Friday night Naucalpan show next week (Aerostar, Super Fly, Drago, Pentagon Jr. among them) are probably not part of next weekend’s Lucha Underground shows just due to scheduling. Likewise, since Dark Angel appears to be working tonight in Arena Mexico, she probably didn’t end up signing with Lucha Underground.

El Patron Alberto was named AAA Tecnico of 2014. Alberto was all announced as working the 04/04 ROH show. Alberto was originally signed only thru their March PPV, so this is a sign of a longer deal. Not sure if this is connected to Alberto not working Lucha Underground or just Alberto offering to work in the city he’s living in.

CMLL’s belatedly put up the Super Halcon Jr. vs Raziel lightning match. It’s nothing you need to hurry to watch.

RobViper has a music video of 09/26/14 CMLL.

DoradaFan has a music video of 12/02/14 CMLL.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and Alfredo recapping CMLL Informa. Dragon Lee believes Kamaitachi was sent to attack him by a mystery Japanese opponent. Dragon Lee believes he’s living in an anime, I think, and it would probably be a pretty good anime.

Segunda Caida reviews some late July CMLL and Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shigeo Okumura, Taichi vs. Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara [CMLL TRIOS].

LV reviews 01/11/15 IWRG and Lucha Underground 01/14/15.

ChilangaMask added Impulso vs Jason Gory to their 03/22 show.

All Elite announced Fuerza Guerrera vs Negro Casas for their 02/08 show.

03/01 Arena Neza will have Black Terry, Flamita, Neza Kid vs Mike Suicida, Aeroboy, and Violento Jack.

Sabor del Ring is doing reveals of luchadors on the 02/15/15 return to the Arena Coliseo San Luis Potosi show. It’s mostly indy and SLP guys. Of note, Billy Boy is listed as working and mentioned to be ex-AAA. He hasn’t been seen in AAA since his hand injury.

Mini Psycho Clown says he had a great 2014 and hopes to challenge Dinastia for the titles again, or fight the Vipers. He calls Mini Chessman his great friend; he passed away a day before Psycho’s birthday and they had made great plans.

DJ Spectro looks at a random Misionerios de la Muerte vs Cadetes del Espacio.
