01/23 AAA TV Results (Naucalpan)

AAA TV (FRI) 01/23/2015 Arena Naucalpan [AAA]
1) Carta Brava Jr., Cíclope, El Apache, Mini Psycho Clown b Arez, Dinastía, Ludxor, Venum
Arez & Ciclope were added to the match. Apache & Carta Brava finally got one over Los Cadetes.
2) Australian Suicide & Bengala b Joe Lider & Pentagón Jr.
Taya seconded the Perros. Suicide continued to be a problem for Pentagon, defeating him with the tornillo shooting star press. After the match, in a separate event, Hijo del Fantasma came to the ring to demand a title challenger/victim for Rey de Reyes.
3) Aerostar b Monsther Clown, Súper Fly, Hijo de Pirata Morgan [Rey de Reyes, semifinal]
Two mystery men watched the match from the crowd. One was revealed to be Electroshock and both helped Hijo de Pirata attack Monsther Clown. Those two were eliminated first. Aerostar defeated Super Fly for the win, advancing to the Rey de Reyes final.
4) Averno, Chessman, Cibernético b Drago, Jack Evans, La Parka
three man powerbomb on Parka for the win.
5) Myzteziz & Psycho Clown b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Texano Jr.
Mistica on Perro for the win, but the Hell Brothers and the Sociedad attacked the tecnicos post match. It does not appear the two groups were working together – Hell Brothers wanted Psycho Clown and Sociedad were left to unmasked Myzteziz.

Oscar and Enrique have an audio recap, with run-ins by Perro Jr. & Myzteziz.

Air Date: 01/31 (and probably the opener is an internet only match.)

Rey de Reyes tournament update:

2015reydereyes1

This was the 3rd time Aerostar’s been in a Rey de Reyes match and the first time he’s won.

They set up a lot of things for the first TV taping of the year. The Rey de Reyes final and Fantasma’s title defense seem locked in for the show. There’s hints of Psycho Circus vs Electroshock/Pirata Morgan/??? (vs Hell Brothers?) and Suicide & Bengala challenging for the tag team titles. It seems like the main even is more likely to be an all star tag than an Alberto title defense, but it’s still too early to be any sure.

Pirata & Electroshock’s partnership was set up on a skit that aired as part of the DF tapings more than a month ago. The third guy stayed under a mask, but I’m sure I’ve seen his smile before.

The Hell Brothers and La Sociedad are definitely meant not to be together, but it’s interesting to see them on the same general page after the whole “join or else” angle from Guerra de Titanes which never seemed to be resolved.

No contender stepped forward to face Fantasma on this show. You’d be rich if you could bet on a cruiserweight title match being a multiman every time, but he’s specifically opposed by Fenix and Myzteziz on the next show. This also would be a decent spot to introduce someone from Lucha Underground.

Ciclope is a long time DTU luchador, while Arez is one of the Indy-strong-ibles who’s been working for pretty much every promotion but DTU.

In other instance where I was wrong, it appears people who worked these shows will definitely be headed to Lucha Underground. Aerostar’s already mentioned he’s headed to Los Angeles and others are likely going with. Missing a weekend now means missing a month of TV, so everyone who can be there needs to be there, even if it’s not as early as it used to be.

Next taping is next Friday in Toluca. At the event, AAA announced they’d be back in Naucalpan w/Alberto next month. Presumably that’s a TV taping. We might find out about another TV taping on toady’s TV.

Mistico returns, Maximo vs Terrible for the title

Guerrera vs Casas

CMLL (FRI) 01/23/2015 Arena México [CMLL]
1) Artillero & Súper Comando b Sensei & Starman
Starman replaced Flyer.
2) Boby Zavala, Sangre Azteca, Virus b Oro Jr., Pegasso, Tritón
Rudos took 1/3. Triton was hurt on a dive (again)
3) Dark Angel, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit b Amapola, Dalys, Tiffany
Tecnicas took 1, rudas took 2.
4) Valiente b Kamaitachi [lightning]
Valiente won via taptia
5) Negro Casas, Shocker, Thunder b La Máscara, La Sombra, Marco Corleone
Rudos took 2/3, Shocker fouling Sombra. Fuerza Guerrera, in a suit, confronted Negro Casas after the match to build up their All Elite match.
6) Máximo, Mistico, Volador Jr. b Rey Bucanero, Terrible, Último Guerrero
Tecnicos took 2/3, with a Mistica on UG in the second. Maximo beat Terrible in the third, then demanded a heavyweight title shot.

Someone remembered Terrible had that title! It reads like the first two falls were built around Mistico and the finish around the title program. It is nice to see CMLL run at least as many angles for their own show as the All Elite ones.

No results from Guadalajara, but Fuego en el Ring had the full list of teams in the #1 contenders tournament:

  • Gallo & Esfinge
  • Smaker & Sky Kid
  • Flash I & Flash II
  • Omar Brunetti & Leo
  • Xavier Cruz & Metatron
  • Magnum & Virgo
  • Exterminador & Malefico
  • Pitbull I & Pitbull II
  • Sanson & Cuatreo
  • Rey Trueno & Mr. Trueno
  • Jocker & Sadico
  • Infierno & Demonio Maya

12 local teams, which means there are byes somewhere in here. Early round matches will continue thru 02/06, with semifinals on 02/13 and final on 02/20.

Magnifico, Karma, Epydemius vs Psycho Kid, Benji Maverick, Astro Rey Jr. has been added to the 02/15 ChilangaMask.

LuchaWorld has a recap of this week’s CMLL Informa. The big news I missed is Hombre sin Nombre (probably) will reveal his name in the next 2 weeks. Canelo Casas talking about how he got into wrestling was good as well.

SuperLuchas tries to track down Morelia legend Sable Rojo and the start of the tournament to crown the first ever Mexican Middleweight Champion.

Zeuxis says she’s headed to Puerto Rico in August.

Iron Love explains his work and personal life have grown too busy to continue training as a luchador and he didn’t want to be one of those who just show up in the ring without training, so he decided to retire.

Playboy Japan has the first of a two part FantasticaMania review. (not especially safe for work link, obviously.)

Los Colisenos argues that Octagon going into the ring a unsafe condition is bad, but management knowing about and allowing it to happen is worse.

Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 01/30/2015 Arena México
1) Esfinge & Soberano Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte & Metálico
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Shockercito vs Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro, Pierrothito
3) Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr., The Panther vs Kamaitachi, Misterioso Jr., Virus
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Marco Corleone vs Negro Casas, Shocker, Thunder
5) Terrible © vs Máximo [CMLL HEAVY]
Terrible’s 9th defense, but first in 13 months.
6) Mistico, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero

Mistico continues to get the showcase main event spot, with the Guerreros to work opposition for him. Maybe the upside of Mistico being back is it causes CMLL to stop booking at least one of the never ending Ingobernable feuds. (The other one goes on in the fourth, and seems headed to a Sombra/Shocker match.)

Maximo’s still never won a singles title. No exotico has won a singles title in CMLL in a long time; Pimpinela was light heavyweight champion while in CMLL but won the title elsewhere. Terrible would break the record for longest heavyweight title reign in May should he hold on. It’s possible this would be his last defense before that point.

2/3 look good, have almost no chance of making it on TV.

Blue Panther Jr. handles the promo.
