Flyer & Sensei vs Camorra & Espanto Jr.: [OK] Second week in a row with an opener of this level. Sensei worked on his chinlocks in the first fall and showed off a horrible GTS in the second fall. Flyer looked good enough to drag this to OK, especially with his second fall finish, but I could not wait to go watch something else.
Black Panther, Oro Jr., Soberano Jr. vs Canelo Casas, El Rebelde, Metálico: [OK] Another victory for Terror Chino inserting himself in a match. Metálico dared Terror Chino to DQ him and Terror Chino is going to take that dare every time. Match was semi-derailed from there. The técnico come back in the third fall was nice and I’d like to see these three drawn together again, though it’s unlikely to happen with CMLL.
Estrellita, Goya Kong, Princesa Sugehit vs La Comandante, Makoto, Narumiya: [below average] An opening mat exchange with Makoto & Estrellita appeared to be longer than most of the Copa Juniors matches, was not necessarily better. It didn’t get better from there. There was a double dropkick spot where they missed dropkicking Goya Kong, which is really tough to do. Japanese women vaguely knew the spots they were supposed to do, but not exactly where they were supposed to do them. It wasn’t just them – there’s a headscissors spot with Sugehit and Comandante where they just drop the pretense and Comandante carries her around for a moment. I lost track of how many times I yelled at the match because something bad was about to happen, that seems like a below average match to me.
Rey Cometa vs Niebla Roja: [OK] I think the finish might have been designed to be a foul. Whatever it was on purpose or not, it was an awkward ending. Niebla Roja always seems like he should be a little bit better than he actually performs. In this one, the top rope Pedigree looked great, but it was done at a point in the match where end up meaning nothing. He has the tools to have a great match but they’re not put together well – Cometa’s match versus Malefico was actually the better match.
Ángel de Oro, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Boby Zavala, Hechicero, Rey Escorpión: [GOOD] Fun semimain with lots of contributions. The idea seemed to be to set up Angel de Oro & Rey Escorpion (since that’s where they ended up two weeks later), but they’re really not matched up much and it’s all versus all. Hechicero nicely takes over the match with a variety of offense in the second fall, Guerrero Maya has a good run in third, and Rey Escorpion and Bobby Zavala are falling all over for everyone. Delta and Angel de Oro strictly did the same spots they do in every match but everyone else was very good. Would recommend.
Atlantis, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Bárbaro Cavernario, Felino, Negro Casas: [OK] Average match. Negro and Atlantis feuded a bit, but just to set up the finish. Valiente did less than usual, but so did everyone else. Peste Negra was more serious than usual – it’s quite a different trio with Negro Casas in Mr. Niebla’s place – but there wasn’t a lot to this one.
