LA Park’s not returning to CMLL after all. Park’s speech on last Friday’s show certainly implied a full time return, but All Elite announced LA Park was still an independent and only wrestling CMLL luchadors on their shows. CMLL went completely silent on LA Park’s appearance after Friday; when it still hadn’t been brought up by the end of CMLL Informa, that was the sign something was going on. All Elite is friends with Luchas 2000, Luchas 2000 is friends with CMLL – it’s possible LA Park’s appearance was done as a favor, but there was probably some money attached too. Instead of selling advertising on the sign boards or the ring, CMLL sold advertising in the form of a in-ring promo.
All Elite comes out a winner, because they still get to promote LA Park vs CMLL matches on their own cards – even though LA Park really didn’t specifically promote those shows. LA Park comes out a winner, because he’s reaffirmed as a winner and can do promos about how he want to Arena Mexico to challenge everyone and CMLL was too scared to let him fight their “protected/inflated” wrestlers. The fans are losers, because CMLL was (as usual) too busy pretending everything was alright to honestly say LA Park wasn’t coming back or explain the situation at all. CMLL believes they’re a winner because they’re getting paid by All Elite, but really just sold more of it’s credibility away and comes out a loser in the long run.
This news comes from an All Elite press conference, who also said they’d be running shows in Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi, Neza and Monterrey. They’re running very expensive shows with no television promotion, just relying on magazines and newspapers, as well as the star power of guys who are struggling to draw people to regular shows. Either this promotion doesn’t really have a plan here and is about to lose a lot of money, or there is something going on with the money that doesn’t seem safe to speculate about.
LA Park is also announced in Arena Coliseo Monterrey on 11/30 and Nuevo Laredo on 12/01. Either he lied about his injury, he’s lying about working these shows, or he’s coming back far too soon from it. This press conference would’ve been the moment to come clean about any of those situations (or even just make up a better story), but it doesn’t appear anything was said.
Meanwhile, Los Colisenos predicts LA Park’s return to CMLL will be a miserable failure. You can read this as Colisenos not being any more plugged in than the rest of us to know it wasn’t a full time return, or that even people inside CMLL had no idea what was going on. I think it’s the latter, and that’s the only reason it was reported at all. Still, it would’ve taken about 20 seconds for JCR to say “hey, LA Park isn’t actually back, he’s just working some indy shows at CMLL buildings” to clear up the situation.
Tickets for All Elite’s announced shows in Puebla and Coliseo run from 125MX to 480MMX ($9 to $35USD) on the DF stop, which is pricey for lucha libre shows. Note that CMLL is selling these tickets themselves thru Ticketmaster – or All Elite is paying them to sell the tickets for them. (It may just be that’s the only way they can set them up for Ticketmaster at those venues.) If last Friday wasn’t just a one time All Elite advertising spot, it would make sense for Dr. Wagner or Extreme Tiger or someone other outside name from the show to make an appearance tomorrow.

This week’s Tercera Caida had Golden Magic & Chicano on to discuss the Castle of Terror results. Those two, and Golden Magic’s ever present father Mr. Magia, spoke more after the show. There’s also a bonus short clip of Herodes talking about his very busy indy career.
Yesterday’s CMLL Informa was mostly useless. The one thing we got out of it was Mistico II being evasive about his return date. He wouldn’t even confirm a 2014 return and he and JCR avoided the issue a lot. (Which really didn’t leave them much to talk about.) I do know Mistico also taped a promo for NJPW – maybe one that’ll air this weekend – and that seems like something they’d only want if he was going to be on the January shows.
El Rey’s site has a Lucha Underground store. It’s generic Cafe Press-ish stuff with logos on basic stuff, but yesterday you couldn’t buy a Drago shirt on the internet and today you can, a massive leap forward for all lucha libre kind. Since this launched very quietly, I wonder if it’s even supposed to be there.
WWE is shuffling the air days of their TV shows, as has been anticipated most of this year. By no coincidence, their NXT show will apparently air at the same as Lucha Underground currently airs.
SI’s Extra Mustard had a story on the El Hijo del Santo/Axel name battle. The article reads like an interview with Axel is the primary source. El Hijo del Santo refused an email interview request and is painted as man who guard his rights to be the heir of the Santo name because it’s all he has.

A story on the recent lucha libre shows at the Mexico City Toy Museum. The museum has been promoting a new lucha libre hall of fame coming soon. I’ve lost track of how many of those have been announced, held an induction ceremony where all their friends were put in and their enemies were not and then were never mentioned again.
The weekend shows in Juarez include a tribute show to the recently murdered Anima I; his brothers are also retiring on the show.

Drago talks about his match in Leon. The fact that there’s not a lot of angles going on in AAA right now make a lot of these interviews really generic. We can work out Alberto/Texano, Hell Brothers/Psycho Circus and Aerostar/Super Fly for Guerra de Titanes, but I hope they work on the rest of the card by Leon so there’s far fewer “I will be teaming with these two people, who are good people, and facing these three people, who are dangerous” articles for everyone’s sake.

the developments
- Castro, Cisco and Big Ryck all got names. Mundo rushed them, ran them off, they teased coming back with weapons, and Puma evened the odds. Cueto made it a tag match. Mundo & Puma won, but Konnan disauded Puma from getting involved with Mundo and his battles. Konnan wants Puma just to list to him. Puma remains mute.
- Big Ryck watched his partner’s match from the crowd, smoking a cigar, and walked off with after the loss.
- Sexy Star beat Son of Havoc to get revenge for last week’s tights pull. Chavo had the match won with the frog splash but tagged in Sexy to allow her to try to the ring.
- Mil Muertes was introduced. He’s got Catrina, who licks Muerte’s opponents before he faces them. She’s got a mysterious object that’s important to him. He won clean in his debut.
- Chavo ran in post match as if to save Demon from more of an attack, but instead hit Demon with a chair. Chavo took out two referees, two unidentified wrestlers and was temporary stopped by Sexy. Commentators invented a story about Chavo being Sexy’s hero/mentor. Chavo hit her with a chair shot too. Demon was stretechered out as if seriously injured.
Thoughts
Opening tag match was good. It was less a total move exhibition than last week, but they worked basic tag team forumla and so they had more of a story than last week’s show. Mundo & especially Puma seemed way out of Castro/Cisco’s league in this match. Maybe Cisco & Castro shouldn’t lose in their debuts, but they definitely should not have beaten those guys – and Big Ryck is being treated as the important guy.
Mixed tag match was better than I thought it would be. Sexy’s figured out enough things to do as a tecnica to make it work. Ivellise was given a minimal introduction, no more than Son of Havoc really. There was one really noticable miscommunication spot near the end that they couldn’t edit out, but otherwise it was okay. It served it’s purporse.
Main event didn’t do much for me. I’m okay with not seeing Demon for a while, but not-Mesias was not so great either. This match was more about getting over the character than having a good match and making Muertes look like a threat via clean win, but it was all kind of blah. It also totally got overshadowed by the post match angle, which an unexplained swerve.
Commentary was worse than last week and more what I was concenred about. Striker was all over place and hitting the “we’re not the WWE!” talking more frequently and more explicity than last week. Vampiro was saving absurd things. They tried to sell the seriousness of the show ending angle but it was hard to be with them at that point. Though the story of Sexy and Chavo having a meaningful relationship came out of nowhere and would’ve been a hard sell for anyone – the sudden of it all and the expectation we’d care cracked me up.
The two patterns so far are ending the show with a big angle to try and get people to come back for week two, and the show being broken down into three long segments. They had a long segement to start and a long one to end, which left a lot of commerical time in the middle half of the show. El Rey is airing a lot of house ads and probably cuodl afford to give Lucha Underground a few more minutes. It may be a Unimas issue, but it definitely breaks up the flow of watching the show live.
Things changed between tapings. We’ll see what that means for next week. They have edited things – there’s now way those matches were that short live – but they ending pushing the Chavo turn and the Demon injury angle big and didn’t hint towards the three guys starting next week.
top six stories of the last two weeks
- Lucha Underground debuted on El Rey and Unimas. The reaction to the show was generally positive, with praise for looking different and the quality of the Puma/Mundo main event. The show was talked about a lot on Twitter that night. Ratings indicated very few people actually watched it on El Rey but “very few people” still means the 2nd most watched show on the network. The Unimas airing generally felt like a native Spanish language product except for the announcers – their sound quality wasn’t good and Vampiro being on both commentating team made for some continuity problems. There’s no word yet as to how they show did on Unimas.
- LA Park returned to CMLL. Park and his son made a surprise appearance after the semimain on Friday night. Park mocked the size of the crowd and challenged the top CMLL wrestlers by name, though none came out to confront him. Park is still out for a couple months due to recent surgery, so none of the teased matches should be coming soon – but he’s advertising for an indy show that’s rented out Arena Puebla & Arena Coliseo next week. CMLL mentioned the promo in it’s coverage of the show but hasn’t said anything more about any plans.
- Alberto el Patron spoke out against the WWE in an interview with Fighting Spirit Magazine. Alberto talked about dealing with multiple racist incidents, including specifying an unnamed person who fired him as making racial jokes. (Previously, Alberto has said the person who fired him was HHH.) Alberto also said WWE wrestlers were being paid very cheaply and he and Myzteziz would easily be making more money in Mexico. Alberto mentioned the contract AAA offered included payment for working Lucha Underground and Paco Alonso told him to take the deal when Alberto called to see if CMLL could match. Alberto repeated a mention of working in Lucha Underground in 2015 in other UK interviews; he’s been expected to end up there in months and would’ve been in the first run of episodes if he was legally able to be.
- CMLL held a week of special Dia Los Muertos shows, where the arena, edecanes, ring personally and the rudos were costumed for the holiday. A God of Hell presided over the top few matches and ordered his mask soldiers to drag the losers to hell after each match. Hell was a side entrance in this case. The God of Hell was revealed to be Ultimo Guerrero both on Friday and Sunday (it was supposed to be a surprise both times?) Guerrero also was God in the ring, defeating Rush and Atlantis in singles matches to main event both shows. Peste Negra kept the national trios titles over the Ingobernables when Rush suddenly decided he didn’t really care that much about the titles and rather just foul Negro Casas. CMLL also set up a haunted house in a basement (though I don’t remember seeing any pictures from it.)
- a mystery promotion called All Elite managed to rent out Arena Puebla and Arena Coliseo for a couple shows, and are bringing in Chavo Guerrero Jr., Hernandez, Dr. Wagner Jr., LA Park to wrestle CMLL guys with other indy guys being added in the undercard. The promotion seems to be tied up with Lucha 2000 magazine someway (it’s being pushed hard in the magazine and they’ve rented out Arena Coliseo in the past), but it also appears to be a hugely expensive card which has limited to no chance of making any money. The All Elite card are interesting politically as well, since Chavo Guerrero is part of Lucha Underground and Dr. Wagner is not part of CMLL.
- Tercera Caida announced long time host Bernardo Guzmán was leaving the program.
- Ciudad Juarez wrestler Anima I was killed. A show in his memory, which will also be the retirement show for his two brothers, will take place this weekend.
- CMLL & NJPW announced the 2015 Fantastica Mania tour. The tour has expanded by one to a sixth show. Barbaro Cavernario & Ultimo Guerrero and 13 yet to be announced CMLL wrestlers will be on the tour.
- DTU announced a 12 show December show to celebrate it’s 7th Anniversary. That’s easily the most ambitious schedule the small hardcore promotion has run. Xema Ion and Robbie E are probably working the shows, though only Ion has been announced. Those two TNA guys are also working for AAA in a couple weeks.
- Kenshi Kabuki lost his mask in IWRG’s Castle of Terror, with tecnico Golden Magic winning once again. Kabuki was revealed to be the former (and now returning) Chicano – not actually Japanese. His identity had been an open secret to the hardcore IWRG fans.
- AAA announced taping lineups for Leon and Mexico City (and quietly canceled the show in between.)
- Angel de Oro won the CMLL Light Heavyweight Championship from Rey Escorpion.
- Indy promotion ChilangaMask held a couple of well recieved shows, including a very good Black Terry vs Hechicero match in Monterrey.
- Indy promotion’s XMW show included a Necro Butcher appearance and luchador Yoruba being knocked unconscious for a length amount of time after taking a knee to the chin.
- Hijo del Diablo won the WWS Welterweight Championship to continue his feud with Dr. Cerbero.
- CMLL’s Turibus coverage has expanded to Tuesdays.

Echoing similar claims by Alberto, Myzteziz said he too sometimes problems with racism in WWE. Sometimes people would say racist things or make racist jokes, but Myzteziz never complained about it. Myzteziz noted he never had that problem with the fans, who were very good to him. Myzteziz teases a reveal about why he really left WWE the way he did and the suggests it’s similar to Alberto (he was going to make much more money in Mexico so why stay.) All that said, Myzteziz said he would be open to working for WWE or in the US again.
The Enmascarado Race, scheduled for next weekend, has been postponed to “sometime first half of 2015”. It was a run on Mexico City’s Paseo de la Reforma coming up in a couple Sundays. AAA was sponsoring it, with promos on TV the last couple weeks. There’s no reason given for the delay, except for saying the race organizers and AAA are not responsible. (That leaves the Mexico City department of sports.) There’s full refund info at the link.
CMLL has an article talking about Niebla Roja & Puma being in Europe at the moment. Magnus is unmentioned. He does appear to be refereeing (in mask) and not wrestling on this tour, but it’s not like CMLL’s specifically mentioned what anyone is doing in this show (no mention of wrestling Cassandro.) This is not a one time thing, CMLL’s consistently ignored Magnus being on this tour for whatever weird political reason.
Lucha Underground’s second episode is tonight. The episode title is “Los Demonios” and the TV preview is “Catrina warns Blue Demon Jr of 1000 deaths; Mundo and Puma are feeling vengeful; Sexy Star and Chavo battle Son of Havoc and Ivelisse.”

Today’s Wednesday, so both CMLL Informa and Tercera Caida are new, but I’m writing this too early to know who’s the guest on either show.
Recent Legend Inmortales shows posters have had logos for Teleformula on it, and it looks like they’re actually getting a TV show on the network. At a press conference Sunday, the promotion announced their show on Teleformula will air Sundays at 6pm starting this weekend. Teleformula previously aired IWRG and CMLL lucha libre. They promoted Canek, Fuerza Guerrera, El Fantasma, Lady Apache and Mascara Ano 2000 as top stars, which should give you an idea of the matches. Teleformula airs in the Mexico and US (if you have the right package) with the same feed; something called “Road TV” is listed in that spot right now, but Teleformula’s listings aren’t very accurate.

Marcela, Goya Kong and Muneca de Plata are headed to Japan for REINA next month. All will be on the 12/12 show (and they’re teasing a Marcela title defense) and the two daughters of Super Porky are staying around for a 12/26 show. Marcela’s also headed back to New York soon.
