Valiente can kill a man with a tope

Máscara Dorada, Rey Cometa, Valiente vs Cavernario, Felino, Mr. Niebla: [OK] Not really much. They worked the Cavernario/Cometa feud in bits and pieced around Niebla/Felino during their usual stuff, and even then it wasn’t a dominant issue. Tecnicos got in nice dives in the third fall but there’s not a lot here that rises pass highlight scene value. The Cometa/Cavernario bit came off like a random midcard feud and not something that was heeated up big (and really never was big except for the match.) They did act as if they were feuding previously to try and make it seem more meaningful. Second fall went 17 seconds and only that long because Terror Chino took forever to get out of the ring and raise Dorada’s arm. JCR even noted Terror Chino is the only one calling that DQ. No one’s explained why that is.

Valiente runs a little late, makes up for it
Dorada tries to land on his head
gif of a chinlock

Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Rush vs Negro Casas, Niebla Roja, Rey Escorpión: [OK] Negro Casas won a fall with a chinlock and won another fall by very obviously pulling Rush’s foot up to foul the referee. Only Negro Casas could get away with that. Atlantis got in a big run in the third fall but and Negro and Rush feuded as normal, but this one also didn’t feel like there was a lot to it (and it was sub 10 minutes after the editing.) I thought it was a sign of how short the match was that Dragon Rojo went thru the first two falls without taking off his shirt/jacket, but then he just never took it off. Maybe that’s his thing now. Niebla Roja and Atlantis worked well together, should have a good mask match in 2030.

how does this even work
Sombra always pushes the air out of his way on his tope con giro

La Sombra vs Último Guerrero for the CMLL Universal Championship and in a tournament final match: [OK/GOOD] weird match: Sombra got about 75% of the match, but Ultimo Guerrero got in his two specials so he won. This is what I tried in WCW/nWo No Mercy but I’m not sure it works for a real life match. Sombra came off as the clear better wrestler outside of two mistakes. This was really apparent in the second fall, where Sombra just continued to run thru Ultimo Guerrero until he walked right into the Guerrero Special. (That’s almost how they book Atlantis.) I’d have to go back and check, but this under ten minute final appeared to be shortest Universal championship match since they’ve started running this tournament. It definitely felt like it needed to have more time (and maybe got more live). The mat wrestling was going well in the first fall but they obviously cut something out of it, and the third fall started with the near falls already going. There isn’t much more than near falls in a Ultimo Guerrero third fall, but this felt lighter than usual. The front superplex spot – with both guys essentially gesturing about how absurd and contrived it is and then going along with it anyway – was highly annoying but at least they allowed Sombra to counter some of Ultimo’s other spots. Sombra ended up losing the same way they set up the near fall in the mask match, which was either careful foreshadowing or more UG repetitiveness, depending on how you want to read it.
