CMLL’s show tonight continues the Guerreros versus Ingobernables feud. Sombra, Rush and Mascara face Euforia, Ultimo Guerrero and psuedo-Guerrero Thunder. They’ve already done a singles match out of this feud, so it seems as if a trios title match should e coming, maybe in the next week or two. CMLL doesn’t have any other feuds going on this show, but the Barbaro Cavernario/Blue Panther lightning match sounds interesting.
Dark Angel’s listed in the segunda but likely will not be on the show tonight: her brother passed away and she’s headed back home. Condolences to her and her family.
Yesterday’s All Elite press conference announced their Liga Elite tournament. Volador Jr., Ultimo Guerrero, LA Park, Chavo Guerrero, Rush, Hernandez, La Sombra, Zumbi, Super Nova, Atlantis, Xtreme Tiger and Dr. Wagner Jr. are the field. Those guys are in top three matches of the two announced cards. Each luchador will earn 3 points for their team winning a tag match (and there will be a third show with just tag matches.) Three shows with singles matches among these twelve will follow, with winners getting five points each. After those six shows, there will be a tournament with the top four point winners and a losers tournament for the four lowest score, where the loser will have to give up his mask, hair, or “something else.”
This is incredible concept, mostly because it’s incredibly unlikely any of these people would be willing to lose their mask and hair in a tournament and Chavo & Hernandez really don’t have either. I wonder if All Elite has told the person who’s losing about that outcome, or if they’ve picked a person at all. It probably doesn’t matter, making it to show seven seems a big reach for this promotion. It looks like Super Nova was the only one of the 12 who was the press conference, which may or may not be a sign. The promoters insisted LA Park is wrestling on these shows, saying LA Park was told he would be out two months and it’s two months after that point. (It’s not really; it’s a week short of two months from when he first starting missing matches and Park didn’t get surgery right away.)
Chris DeJoseph said Lucha Underground resumes taping January 17th. That’ll be the week after the title tournament, as we understand how the TV is supposed to work right now. (That’s changed so many times, so it’s just a guess.) The first episode from the new block wouldn’t air until February 4th. They’ll have a bit of time to edit shows after they air, it’ll be the first time they’ll be in production while shows are airing.
Photographic proof that Magnus actually went to Europe. Maybe CMLL has a secret anti-primera bias and Cholo has been having all these great adventures we’ve never heard about.
