IWRG (SUN) 10/26/2014 Arena Naucalpan [IWRG]
1) Anubis Black, Araña de Plata, Atomic Star b Alfa, Omega, Sky Ángel
2) Metaleon, Mike, Teelo b Rayan, Spartan, Violencia Jr.
3) Oficial 911 & Oficial AK47 © DQ Leo & Rafy [IWRG IC TAG]
AK47 faked a foul to draw the DQ and keep the titles, to the surprise of all. Oficial are tag champs, second defense
4) Golden Magic, Metaleon, Pantera b Canis Lupus, Pirata Morgan Jr., Universo 2000 Jr. [lumberjack strap]
Metaleon replaced Kenshi Kabuki.
5) Hijo De Dos Caras, Negro Navarro, Toscano b Demon Clown, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, X-Fly
Tecnicos took 2/3.
I wonder if plans changed there – it makes no sense for the Turtles to lose but then they shouldn’t have been in the title match if the Oficials were all along planned to keep the titles. (So maybe it wasn’t planned and they did the DQ to get out of it.)
CMLL (MON) 10/27/2014 Arena Puebla [Periodic Enfoque, Periodic Enfoque (Fotos)]
1) Asturiano & Paris b Centauro de Fuego & Guerrero Espacial
Paris beat Centauro
2) Leono, Robin, Starman b Ares, Rey Apocalipsis, Toro Bill Jr.
Tecnicos took 2/3
3) Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stigma b Kráneo, Morphosis, Pólvora
Polvora and Delta slightly feuded.
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush DQ Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Shocker
Best match of the night. Peste Negra/Shocker took 1/3, the last by DQ when Rush ripped off Niebla’s mask.
5) Euforia, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero © b Atlantis, Máximo, Valiente [CMLL TRIOS]
Guerreros took 1/3 to keep the titles. Roja & Euforia beat Maximo and Valiente in the third fall. Third defense.
Expected out come in the main event, though it’s a bit of a surprise the semimain was better.
Variety has an article about Lucha Underground also airing on Unimas. (They used a Lucha Va Voom photo.) The DailyDDT has an interview with executive producer Erik Van Wagenen. Sopitas has one with executive producer Diego Gutierrez. Screen Invasion writes about their set visit. Remezcla writes positively about the men vs women parts. Complex has the most critical take, feeling the promotion still feels much too like a WWE inspired product for something claiming to be a lucha libre alternative.
I don’t sense a big buzz online in the usual wrestling places for the show so far; people seem to be aware it’s on this week but I haven’t read a lot of anticipation. That could change tomorrow, Lucha Underground focused more on TV sites, and internet buzz is not always the best indicator (but more would be better.) Lucha Underground is probably rooting strongly for the Giants to finish the World Series tonight.
Lucha Underground is looking to cast a Kung Fu fighter and a Fire Breather for a commercial. Pentagon Jr. says he’s headed back to Los Angeles, which may be part of this commercial shoot and/or the premiere.
Today’s Arena Mexico main event has TRT against Volador, Valiente and Titan. Rey Escorpion will defending the light heavyweight championship of the world in a semimain (not as important as a cold rudo trio against a rudo team) versus Angel de Oro. Possible spoiler: Rey Escorpion is listed as defending the title next month.
Black Terry Jr. has photos from both the ChilangaMask show in Coacalco and the one in Monterrey, as well as video of the street fight from the Coacalco show.
LuchaWorld has this week’s PosterMania.
Segunda Caida raves about Marcela & Princesa Sugehit vs Princesa Blanca & La Seductora.
Voices of Wrestling has another Matt Farmer piece on the history of lucha libre in September. I didn’t get a chance to read this yet today but it looks comprehensive.
CMLL posted it’s highlight video for the last week. The 1 in the Top 10 is the NJPW/CMLL alliance. Slow week for actual wrestlers. Mercurio is 10.
Merca20 takes a tour of AAA’s offices.
Ultimo Guerrero was definitely in Merida, so I have no idea what Ultimo Guerrero was going on about. (Maybe UG doesn’t think people elsewhere would find out about the match and hear about him losing to Wagner?)
Preview of Lucha Va Voom’s Halloween Los Angeles shows.
Argenis hypes Enmascardos Race. That race is on the 9th and in Mexico City, so it seems likely AAA would want to advertise the Juan de la Barrera show on 11/28. Maybe we’ll get a card by that date.
Pentagon Jr. clarifies his real social media sites.
Lineups
IWRG (SUN) 11/02/2014 Arena Naucalpan
1) Mini Multifacetico, Sky Ángel, Vanely vs Araña de Plata, Oficialito, Sexy Girl
2) Leo, Mike, Rafy, Teelo vs Liderk, Rayan, Spartan, Spector
3) Grond XXX, Negro Navarro, Toscano vs Demon Clown, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, X-Fly
4) Hijo De Dos Caras © vs Cien Caras Jr. [IWRG IC HEAVY]
second defense
5) Universo 2000 Jr. vs Violencia Jr., Golden Magic, Imposible, Canis Lupus, Trauma II, Kenshi Kabuki, Metaleon, Emperador Azteca, Relámpago [cage, mask]
That’s the Castle of Terror cage match. Universo, Golden Magic, Canis Lupus, Trauma II and Relampago seem safe, and I’d be surprised if Imposible and Emperado Azteca lost too. Kenshi seems to be the odd man out, though Metatron has won a lot for an rookie and that always ends sadly in IWRG.
That tercera. I dunno. Does Negro Navarro just check out during that match? I would check out during that match.
Liderk and Spector are the newest mispelled Comando Elite members, which is a gimmick that’s had at least four different characters so far but I guess must be just two more away from finally catching on.
CMLL (MON) 11/03/2014 Arena Puebla
1) Arkalis, Black Tiger, Flyer vs Akuma, Fuerza Chicana, Policeman
2) Asturiano, Stukita, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Pierrothito, Saurón
3) Black Panther, Blue Panther, Cachorro vs Hombre sin Nombre, Tiger, Virus
4) Atlantis, Marco Corleone, Volador Jr. vs Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Terrible
5) Rush vs Mr. Niebla
That main event will have a lot of hitting. First Sauron match here since June. Hombre sin Nombre has to be good in the tercera, right?
