Fuego, Omar Brunetti, Tritón vs Disturbio, Maléfico, Ráfaga: blurb: [OKAY/GOOD] Okay match which got better as it went along. It was really carried by Fuego, Triton and (by a lesser amount) the local rudos. Omar and Disturbio are setting up a hair match here, so that’s really quite a problem. Those two had no perceptible chemistry. Omar slipped to screw up the second fall finish, then they were talking their way thru the start of the third fall one. Maybe it gets better? Maybe getting back Creepy Bald Disturbio is a win in itself? Triton was great every time he was in and I was upset when he was beat in the third. Fuego doing a northern lights suplex should work off his back bend spot somehow.
Princesa Sugehit vs Princesa Blanca in a lightning match: [GOOD] Legit good match, enough to annoy that a) the Puebla one is never going to see the light of day even if it’s probably the same match and b) that there’s not a whole summer of these two feuding, instead of the oddly positioned Marcela/Blanca feud which sort of took it’s place. (In the grand scheme of things, it sure looks like Sugehit turned tecnica solely so Seductora could get a payoff for losing her mask.) At least this happened, a good brawl which made the best use of tecnica Princesa Sugehit so far. Her tecnica offense is still not there – a dive spot doesn’t go quite right, and the spinning headscissors bit near the end might have started as submission but ended as a pinfall – but what Princesa Sugehit can still do is kick people convincingly hard and this was just a match about kicking people hard. The Princesas worked the angry, brawling, barely in the bounds of the rules match which made sense for the situation, with both women trying to hurt each other as much as win. The fights outside the ring were good – even when the people wouldn’t move in a timely fashion – and Blanca borrowing Puma’s move made for a brutal finish. Maybe Blanca made a decision to leave lucha libre which didn’t give CMLL a lot of time to do things, but there was a lot of unfufilled potential in this feud.
Black Panther, Blue Panther, Cachorro vs Felino, Puma, Tiger: [GOOD/GREAT] If you enjoyed the En Busca de un Idolo tournament and don’t mind short three fall matches, you might have it rated much higher than that. It was a sub 10 minuet match, but they were moving so fast and getting twice as much in. (I don’t think they sped up the video, but they were zooming around the entire time.) The Casas/Panther matches earlier this year got more of a chance to develop, this one was just everyone in top gear and still pulling it new stuff. There were genius combinations of moves in all the falls, including the series of kicks on Cachorro and lucha-rific triple roll up spot; maybe a bit Dragon Gate-ish with the tidal wave of move sequences. It was impressive and they need five more minutes to do it again.
Felino totally pinned himself to end the first fall and got away with it. It was the rare natural double pin, except the referee didn’t notice it (and couldn’t since Felino was captain and they were winning the fall.) Cachorro’s second fall surprise armbar was such a surprise that the cameras missed it. They did get the replay.
La Máscara, La Sombra, Rush vs Mr. Niebla, Rey Escorpión, Último Guerrero: blurb: [GOOD] Another good match! Those first couple months of Ingobernable matches weren’t much good, but it all along seemed like it would work if they eventually figured things out. They’ve sure figured things out the last month or so. This as good and maybe better than a lot of the Casas matches in Arena México, just because Escorpion and Niebla mixed things up and the Ingobernables are getting better at playing off fo them. Mr. Niebla broke out the handspring back elbow just for fun, and then did the moonsault to the floor too! Firey técnico Rey Escorpion was also a thing to see. A full (lower owl) Guadalajara bowl definitely helped things along. Finish was flat. They’re telling a story about Canek, er, Ultimo Guerrero never being as physically dominated in a match as he is by these Ingobernables so he’s go to think his way to a win, but the mask toss wasn’t the climax the fans wanted to see.
