CMLL 81st Anniversary show to air live on Terra

Terra announced they will be carrying the 09/19 CMLL Anniversary show, including the Ultimo Guerrero versus Atlantis mask match. It appears to be the same stream as usual – for free for all, and airing the complete show. The broadcast is listed as starting at 8:30pm CT.

CMLL’s been announcing a new match every Monday up until now; this announcement of the stream may be replacing the match announcement this week. The official current card for the CMLL Anniversary is Dragon Lee & Cachorro vs Puma & Tiger in the opener, an eight women’s cibernetico, and the mask match. Recent matches and upcoming lineups suggest Peste Negra (Negro Casas, Felino and Mr. Niebla) vs Los Ingobernables (La Sombra, Rush, La Mascara) and Rey Cometa versus Cavernario in a hair vs hair match may also be added. That will leave room for one or two additional matches.

CMLL’s overall strategy is confusing and possibly non-existent: why air this one and not Juicio Final or Dos Leyendas? What happened between last Wednesday, when CMLL specifically said there was no plan to air this show on the internet, and today? Why not charge for the show in some way (either by PPV or iPPV?) to make some very easy money off the biggest match they have to offer and will have to offer for quite some time? I do not know.

CMLL’s feed has been fairly though not perfectly reliable. I haven’t been charting it, but I’d estimate it works with only very minor issues about 70% of the shows, has some significant failure where a chuck of the feed is missed about 28% of the time, and out right fails about 2% of the time. This is not like AAA (current success rate: 0.00%) – you’re pretty safely going to see the whole thing if you check it out on the 19th.

Since this is free to all, I’ll be writing a preview for casual viewers here or on tumblr or somewhere else (unless they don’t get the lineup announced before I leave for Mexico, then who knows.)  As it’s a free show, I’ll also be trying to record it to put up on Terra later – though it may be much later since I’ll actually be at the show, and I’ll have to write in some additional backup to make sure it works this year.

Really happiest most about Cavernario/Rey Cometa making it’s way complete to the general world. Ultimo Guerrero & Atlantis would air no matter what the situation. Iif Cavernario/Cometa happens, it’s the sort of match which might get cut from a TV show or (more likely) cut to pieces to by a brutal Fox Sports editor. I didn’t really put this together until I did work on the MOTYC list this weekend: Cavernario is one more really big match away from being a legit Mexico wrestler of the year. Cavernario’s not a big star so he’s not going to win that sort of recognition anywhere outside this very tiny circle who cares more about the quality of matches, but he’s had the really strong En Busca de un Idolo tournament, the great ensuing title match with Titan, plenty of good regular trios work, and now possibly the hair match with Rey Cometa that we didn’t even know was happening because TV hasn’t found time to show it. TV isn’t an issue if they stream it on the internet. This is setting up to be another great opportunity for Cavernario and he’s made the most of all of them this year.
