lucha libre, in so many ways

Bengala & Molotov vs Akuma & Cholo: An efficient if not particularly interesting opener. Veteran técnicos knew what they were doing and rudos didn’t mess anything up, but this still felt bland. Typical Tuesday opener, in other words. Cholo breaking out the caballete was a bit different and the técnicos traded finishing holds in the third.

that’s a tag team finish

Astral, Fantasy, Stukita vs Mercurio, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Olímpico: Good, fun minis match. Pequeño Nitro and Mercurio have really gotten entertaining as a rudo team, and Stukita may be the coolest guy in the promotion (especially when Mascara Dorada isn’t around.) Really liked the move combination to finish the third fall. The other three were fine too, with Astral getting thru everything without incident and Olímpico having some nice dropkicks. This was pretty up there for a Tuesday minis match.

Esfinge, Oro Jr., Star Jr. vs Cancerbero, Metálico, Raziel: Liked this one too. Cancerbero and Raziel are a good addition to the Oro Jr. feud, even it’s just for the one match – they bring the destruction and meanness that Metalico’s trying to get here. They worked well against the other técnicos too. Star Jr. looks the best he has since he was out of the tournament and Esfinge looked less generic than the previous appearance (though he’s still clearly 6th of 6.) Oro & Metálico worked better here too.

quite a whip

Blue Panther, Cachorro, Titán vs Cavernario, Felino, Mr. Niebla: Another enjoyable match. Peste Negra comedy, but not just Peste Negra comedy – the técnicos got a chance for their stuff and the first two falls was good with the wrestling stuff. Not really as much build to Cavernario/titan as I would’ve thought, do they did have an extended stretch in the third. The goal kick related chant catching on here is quite random. It seems like a while since Mr. Niebla got in his whole dance and spit catch without being interrupted. Lost some momentum at the very end of the third fall – a lot of standing around after the Star – but still was satisfying.

Cometa tornillo

Atlantis, Rey Cometa, Valiente vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Euforia, Pólvora: Dragon Rojo, confused and depressed because his friends are no longer his friends, is the best acting performance of his career. I’m almost as sad that it had to end here. On the other hand, I feel like we’re owed one skit to explain why the Guerreros and the remaining Revolucionarios are no longer heated enemies, but that’s probably one more skit than we’ll get the rest of the year. Tecnicos really didn’t get to do much here because this was all about the rudos breaking up, but Cometa’s third fall tornillo was good and it’s always amusing to see the rudos vacuumed into Atlantis’ quebradoras.
