Cachorro, Cavernario, Dragon Lee, Negro Casas, Soberano Jr. vs Guerrero Negro Jr., Hechicero, Star Jr., Súper Halcón Jr., Virus in a En Busca de un Idolo cibernetico match: Not at the level of most of the rest of the tournament. Soberano and Star Jr. had some very obvious rough moments and others had lesser issues, but the match itself didn’t feel as strong as some of those other ones even if everything had worked as planned. It was obviously planned enough for a lot of short put together sequences, but there wasn’t much connecting these sequences – people would just be doing their spots and hurrying out for no other reason than it was someone else’s turn, not because they were forced out or anything. The short length was also a determent, none of the matchups really got to develop because they weren’t together that long. And, maybe most surprisingly, it wasn’t a match with as many huge high spots as a lot of the lightning match – the dives disappeared early, and Super Halcón of all people did the most of them. There’s some good moments to be had in here but there’s a lot better stuff from everyone elsewhere.
Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Shocker vs La Sombra, Rush, Último Guerrero in a relevos increíbles match: Also had some moments and a better overall story, but lost a lot of gas in the third fall. It wasn’t routine, because Mr. Niebla and Shocker doing stereo topes is never routine, but it did feel like well trodden ground. Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero will still draw if they do it this year, but it’s also clearly past it’s peak in the interest in the fans. They need to do something to get people excited about it again and they probably will (if they’re doing the match this year.) Little known fact: if the announcers don’t repeat the Juicio Final every 3 minutes, their announce desk explodes. It has to be word for word, as if the mantra of an especially specific religious cult. Apparently Tiger Hispano is a rudo, as he kept breaking up Atlantis’ attempt to rip up Ultimo Guerrero’s mask and then just stood there when Ultimo Guerrero did the same. Both third fall finishes were predicated on Tigre Hispano being awful at his job, which was totally believable.
