CMLL Titanes del Ring: 2014-06-28

recap

taped 2014-06-22 @ Arena Coliseo

Astounding that they created a new intro (straight out of 1992) with Averno in it right as everyone should’ve known he was jumping. It’d also take like 15 seconds for someone to cut him out, and he’s going to be in there for three years.

Blue Panther headstand escape

Blue Panther vs Ephesto in a lightning match: Ephesto working maestros style is definitely not something you see everyday. He did reasonable well. It’s tough to compare him, because my mind immediately goes to Virus (this is much in the style of that Panther match) and you can be a good at this without being close to Virus. Ephesto seemed a little clumsy and out of practice at this style, and tired by the end, but he did do a few creative things and I’d like to see him try it again to see what he might come up with second run. Finish was almost kind of disappointment; these matches usually lead to creative submissions, but instead this was the flash armbar as if they needed to get out as quick as possible. The rest of the match was built around every hold being a battle, but ended with no battle. Still, an interesting change of pace.

royal frontcracker

Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr., Stuka Jr. vs Kamaitachi, Puma, Shigeo Okumura: Good match, although one where a couple of iffy moments in the third fall caused them to lose the crowd quite a bit. Guerrero Maya Jr.’s tope on Okumura was complete lunacy. He and Delta might be a world class tag team if they ever got more than 4 2v2 matches in a year. Puma remains very good, very underutilized.

insane

Máximo, Super Porky, Volador Jr. vs Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora, Rey Escorpión: Standard Máximo/Porky match with them being out of the way for the finish. Seen way too many of these lately to appreciate it. Dragon Rojo and Rey Escorpión had one single spot of disagreement which came and went; I don’t think we would’ve realized they meant to start a breakup here if this had aired live. Pólvora legit had trouble slamming Brazo de Plata (and dropped him pretty awkwardly when he did drop him.) Porky is having a lot of trouble moving around and accidentally got in the way of spots in the third fall because of his immobility.
