Guerrero Negro takes a trip

Black Panther & Starman vs Espiritu Negro & Guerrero Negro: Match was edited after the fact, and apparently by someone who doesn’t know you need to beat both members of the team to win the fall. They edited out the second elimination both falls, probably to save time but not so much that they didn’t still show the replay. (Meanwhile, they didn’t fix the chyrons – Cadena3 is not good on that with late changes.) I guess it’s good we got to see the match at all instead of just cutting it out, though it wasn’t much of one. Dr. Lucha, on a podcast, had an idea that CMLL should repeat En Busca de un Idolo in the fall with the eight guys who didn’t make the final; I didn’t like it primary for over-saturation reasons, but I didn’t like the idea also because the idea of seeing Black Panther/Espiritu Negro matches was not promising. This match suggested those may not be great ideas – the best section of the match was the 1 on 2/2 on 2 battle to finish out the third fall. Espiritu Negro may never get to move up, but he may do well as a guy around the early matches forever to stooge for flyers. If Raziel ever got moved up, that’s kind of the spot Espiritu should have.

Black Panther’s inverted facebuster?

that hurts more than the penalty call

Estrellita, La Vaquerita, Marcela vs Amapola, Dalys, Zeuxis: Random good women’s match! I wasn’t expecting this to be anything, but it was well coordinated and full of action. It started off with trouble – Zeuxis & Vaquerita had idea but couldn’t quite get them to work – but it picked up in smoothness from there. Estrellita had a good match, Dalys was good against Marcela and Marcela & Amapola were their usual selves. Vaquerita looked tentative but came on as the match went along, and Zeuxis was really good with Marcela in the finishing sequence. Zeuxis did beat Marcela, but it felt more like that was just where the match ended, not that it meant they were following up on it.

Zeuxis tries to be cool, Marcela breaks up the fun

Mad Scientist Bomb almost goes wrong

Cachorro, Dragon Lee, Gallo vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Hechicero, Misterioso Jr.: The defining moment of this match was when Cachorro urgently waved at Gallo. Cachorro was going to do something cool, but Gallo needed to get out of the way. That’s basically what the rest of the match was, Cachorro & Dragon Lee having a good tag match against Hechicero (and by default, Misterioso) when the Gallo/Arkangel feud would move out of the way. It was unclear if Cachorro and Dragon Lee are a new great tag team or if En Busca de un Idolo taught everyone how to string spots together in entertaining way, but it was working regardless. They were booked here to be second to the very average Gallo/Arkangel feud, but stole the match. It gives hope that even if they’re not booked great out of En Busca de un Idolo, they’re still going to get over.

Cavernario can do this finisher again

Ángel de Oro, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Cavernario, Felino, Herodes Jr.: More of an normal trios match, with a random and never followed up on Angel de Oro/Cavernario feud. It seemed like they knew enough here not to beat Cavernario before the final, though that may just be random luck. Herodes seems to be getting better – he’s very obvious at setting himself up to take técnico moves, but at least he can take them now. Delta & Guerrero Maya really like the stereo topes in opposite corner spot.

errr, I dunno

Ephesto, Gran Guerrero, Negro Casas vs Fuego, Valiente, Volador Jr.: “The parts with Negro Casas were the best” could apply to many matches from the last three decades, and also this match. Fuego/Casas was fun, Volador/Casas is still good and, well, Valiente/Casas didn’t happen much but I wish it would. (For a guy who was supposed to be in a title match, Valiente was very low profile in this match and ended up beat twice.) The other rudos were not so great. Gran Guerrero’s stumbles would be more palatable if he was just a Nuevo Valores one night promotion; instead, he’s a upper level guy for no meritorious reason. Ephesto had a weird urge to do a middle rope elbow drop and should resist that urge going forward.

adios
