recap

taped 2014-06-03 @ Arena México

probably meant to do this

Black Panther, Gallo, Súper Halcón Jr. vs Arkángel de la Muerte, Artillero, Súper Comando: The long Arkangel showcase no one was asking for. Or maybe you were, but this continuation of the Gallo feud dragged for me. Not technically bad, but just uninteresting. The long second fall seemed stretched out so the match would go the usual time despite not really having that much to do here. Other guys could’ve contributed more, but Artillero and Super Comando seemed limited to holding Gallo and running at things, and the other técnicos were kept out for long stretches. Not sure if Gallo meant to do first fall finish or just improvised well when he couldn’t hold the reinera.

Zexius hits the wall

Estrellita, Goya Kong, Lluvia vs Amapola, Tiffany, Zeuxis: More active match than the previous one. More of a usual routine match, especially since Goya was involved, but they did the usual routine fine. Zeuxis leaned so far back on the finishing piledriver that Estrellita didn’t come anywhere close to hitting the mat.

triple tope

Ángel de Oro, Fuego, Rey Cometa vs Kamaitachi, Morphosis, Rey Escorpión: A spotlight for Angel de Oro, giving him a win on his return to Arena México. It was nice to give him something to start off well with, it would’ve been better if he had brought something new to the table – this was the same Angel de Oro match as ever. It’s been a while since we’ve seen his spots, so it was more disappointing than frustrating, but we’ll get to the latter soon enough. Just like the rest of the show, everyone else was okay, but I can’t think of anything to say about it.

Valiente tope

La Máscara, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Boby Zavala, Mephisto, Terrible: Standard trios match as a main event. This match, as with most of the matches that aired, got more time than usual – they’re going a little longer with En Busca de un Idolo in the rear view. You’d have to be looking for a Valiente/Mephisto feud to know there was meant to be one there, just like you’d have to be looking for La Mascara being a tweener to notice that was going on. (Vailente’s post match promo did make it a bit more clear.) Zavala using a dropkick and Mephisto a crab was a bit low powered for a first fall finish, especially when Canadian Destroyers are being done as random near falls in the previous match.
