CMLL on Fox Sports (Mexico): 2014-05-31

recap

taped 2014-05-23 @ Arena México

package piledriver

Dark Angel, Marcela, Princesa Sugheit vs Dalys, Princesa Blanca, Zeuxis: More of the Blanca/Sugheit feud, with Sugeheit adding some técnicas spots and winning via mask toss. She didn’t really seem to do much of that bit as a ruda. Smart of Blanca to at least get in a few stomps while Sugheit was down covering; Sugheit hasn’t worked how to deal with that part quiet yet. The match was okay, with everyone better settled on the side. I’m still unconvinced this needs to be happening, but at least it’s happening. Zeuxis and Marcela were killing each other again, maybe they’ll get around to that match someday.

Sugehit has some strong legs, apparently

Maximo tope

Marco Corleone, Máximo, Titán vs Mr. Águila, Rey Escorpión, Ripper: Ok. Mr. Aguila was not good – he made me wish they’d use Olímpico more in the extra Invasor spot – but everyone else was fine. Máximo and Rey Escorpion sort of feud during this, with Máximo getting a clean win that almost was celebrated like the feud was now over There was a point where we thought Máximo and Rey Escorpion were going to have a major hair match this month, and I can’t imagine that happening now. It wouldn’t be major, it’s been cooled down so much. The time in between fall 1 and fall 2 was three times as long as fall 1. Dumb editing sucks.

MOVE, Ultimo!

Atlantis, Shocker, Volador Jr. vs La Sombra, Rush, Último Guerrero in a relevos increíbles match: Better than average match. It was more about demonstrating the change in behavior in Sombra & Rush than being a good match on it’s own, but their battles with Shocker and Volador were good. This was like an experiment – could Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero could have their usual match with chaos all around them? It turns they can. Next up, Atlantis vs Ultimo Guerrero in a tornado. This was completely two different matches which just happened to be going on at the same time, to the point where Rush tagged Ultimo Guerrero seemed odd because I had forgot they were actually on the same team at that point. Ultimo and Atlantis seemed to vanish after the finish as well. Sombra and Rush shoving each other before the finish was very strange. Good job listing the teams multiple times during the match; this match needed them, but it’d nice if they did it it more often. JCR said Ultimo Guerrero had ripped up 1000 Atlantis masks and I’m willing to believe that’s an accurate number at this point.

Cachorro makes life painful for Dragon Lee

Cavernario, Dragon Lee, Negro Casas vs Cachorro, Hechicero, Virus: Excellent. It really comes down to how much to downgrade the match due to Dragon Lee and Hechicero’s stumbles at the end. It was an issue for me watching it live, but didn’t feel as problematic watching a couple weeks later. Everything else was stellar. Hechicero got his fight with Negro Casas and had quite a battle. Virus versus Cavernario was pretty great the couple times it came up, and that’s one I hope they find a way to do again. Cachorro has the best nudo lagunero and Dragon Lee had some great high flying. Cachorro, Hechicero and Virus had great chemistry as a team for one that’s never been one previously and probably won’t ever be a trio again. The list of the spots I wrote down to GIF got very long, and there’s a lot I didn’t get. This was a big match, but there were none of the CMLL Big Match™ spots, this was all about the guys doing the best of what they could in the contest for this one match.
