Cavernario vs Hechicero in En Busca de un Idolo final, Myzteziz to Naucalpan

IWRG’s posted photos of last night’s show, but no results.

AAA lists a 07/02 show here (where IWRG are mentioned with their luchadors.) I’d assume that’s an RCH show – Invasion AAA is listed on the page. It’d be Myzteziz’s first match in the building since 2007, where he was also facing Black Warrior. Not sure if Bogeman will make the show. Averno and Warrior also haven’t been back here since 2007.

Last night’s CMLL Informa announced Caveranrio will face Hechiero in the final of the En Busca de un Idolo tournament this Friday. The announcement is at the very end of the show (with JCR dragging it out for non existent rating points.)

All four finalists were on stage for the announcement. No one was particularly surprised when Hechicero was announced first, but it seemed like the luchadors did not know which one had finished second until it was announced. (The production people were tipped off, they accidentally went to this close up of Cavernario before his name was announced.) Cavernario and Hechicero hyped up the match and were respectful towards each other to end the show.

The final point standings

250 Hechicero (31 week 3 fan poll)
202 Cavernario (40)
198 Dragon Lee (32)
195 Cachorro (37)

The fan poll points don’t fit with the results we saw. Hechicero had the 1st amount of votes, but was given the fourth amount of points. That doesn’t really change anything since Hechicero was already in. Everyone else is in the same order and actually closer than I estimated given their separation in raw votes – the exact numbers are off, but the outcome does not seem like it changed. Cavernario would’ve been the final any way.

It’s possible CMLL might have finally solved the problem of people voting multiple times, but it would’ve required rewriting the voting script they’ve used the last few years on the fly, and only right before the finish (when it really didn’t affect anyone but Hechicero, and when CMLL hasn’t done anything like that previously.) It’s more likely CMLL just decided what numbers they wanted or they did some weird inexplicable math. CMLL’s done weird inexplicable math with the poll results every time, but they’ve almost always kept the order the same – until now.

I would prefer a system where someone advances based simply on win/loss. I actually got that system this year. These four had the four best records in the first round, and Cavernario and Hechicero had the best record in the second round (2-1). Those wins made a huge difference: had Cachorro or Dragon Lee won last Friday, they would be wrestling this Friday.

Cavernario has the best record overall (7-3) and his only loss this round was a disqualification loss to Cachorro after he had already won that match. (Note that Cachorro beat Cavernario both rounds, and then throw that note in the trash because it’ll never be brought up again.) Cavernario’s the guy CMLL is picking when they can make that sort of decision, and they get to make that sort of decision on Friday.

(for the second straight week, CMLL used my video of Informa for their Facebook.)

Last night had a double edition of Tercera Caida. The first show had Ludark as guest, the second included the Mexican Powers. There’s even one two after the show videos for about two and half hours of video.

Sin Cara drew a full house to Arena Aficion Tuesday, teaming with La Parka to beat Silver King & Averno. That appears to be his first match in the building since December 2009. The mystery luchadora I thought might be someone new coming in turned out to be Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., who does not appear to be a woman.

La Park & Cibernetico were part of the Carnaval Carolina in Charlotte this weekend. Parka is quoted as saying “all of AAA will be in the US this year” and Cibernetico says he’ll have a match in the US soon.

R de Rudo looks at AAA people who haven’t appeared on TV much of late. No Atomic Boy update!

Averno says he’s better than Psycho Clown, Cibernetico and Myzteziz put together.

Some of Bolivia’s Los Cholitas appear to be part of a tour package.

AAA has a lineup for September already! The summer is moving fast.

Lucha Libre in Japan

Jinzo, Super Crazy, Nieto del Santo (back for the summer) and Rocky Lobo made it to NOAH. Rocky Lobo brought a few masks.

Stardom officially announced Star Fire as working 5 Star GP 2014 tournament. It’s a normal league, with two blocks of five wrestlers, running from August 24 to September 23. Dark Angel participated last year.

Wrestling New Classic essentially shut down yesterday, with all their male wrestlers moving to Wrestle-1. Hijo del Pantera, who’s been training in WNC the last couple of years, had also already been working for Wrestle-1 so it’s really not much of a change for him. The women wrestlers are said to be moving to REINA, but REINA was barely running any shows before WNC partnered with them to prop them up. There’s already been 2-4 times where it seemed like REINA was going to stop running shows and they kept going on, so I supposed they will here too.

CMLL (TUE) 06/24/2014 Arena México
1) Metatrón & Molotov vs Camorra & Zayco
2) Hombre Bala Jr., Soberano Jr., Súper Halcón Jr. vs Canelo Casas, Disturbio, Hijo del Signo
3) Estrellita, Goya Kong, Lluvia vs Dalys, Tiffany, Zeuxis
4) Gallo © vs Arkángel de la Muerte [FULL HEAVY]
second defense.
5) Stuka Jr., Super Porky, Tritón vs Hechicero, Rey Bucanero, Terrible
6) Fuego, Máximo, Valiente vs Kráneo, Mr. Águila, Ripper

Mr. Aguila in a main event! I’m sure that’ll go great. Gallo and Arkangel finally have their title match, which Arkangel actually has to win at some point. Hechicero is working the semimain, but it’s tough to know that that means for him outside Martes de Nuevo Valores. Zeuxis/Marcela feud not existent.

LI (FRI) 07/11/2014 Arena Querétaro
1) Esther Moreno & Lady Apache vs Miss Janeth & Tania
2) Ojo De Tigre & Viento Negro vs Rambo & Shu el Guerrero
3) Asteroide, Gato Rodriguez, Jinete Del Espacio, Rey Cometa Sr. vs Dr. Darkman, Furia Dorada, Universitario, Zarpa De Tigre
4) Aguila Solitaria, Kendo, Pantera vs Fuerza Guerrera, Negro Navarro, Scorpio Jr.
5) Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000 vs Canek, El Fantasma, Villano IV

All legends show, including Queretaro legends in the tercera. (The current Rey Cometa is meant to be Rey Cometa Jr., but the Jr. got dropped last decade.)

Canek turned 62 today. We don’t have a birthdate for Fantasma (he’s a ghost, it’s hard) but the average age of everyone else in that main event is 56.6. I’m sure they’ll put on a fascinating athletic competition.

  1. The Mexican Powers mentioned Atomic Boy on 3ra Caida yesterday. Said he’s still recovering from shoulder surgery. They seemed to think that entire angle where Atomic/Alebrije joined the Mexican Powers was for one night only.
