Sin Cara goes from the three best guys to work with him to his three biggest rival. Again, I think they’re much better off announcing him then playing the mystery game (assuming he’s signed.) I’m hoping there’s something along the lines of a DF press conference where Sin Cara is officially signed and Averno shows up to challenge him to get the word out.

Fenix being in the main event both nights is really interesting. Fenix is going to blow Sin Cara away, at least in athletic feats. Sin Cara’s history and aura are tough to over shadow, but I wonder how many people are going to walk away from both matches believing Fenix is the more dynamic exciting luchador.

(And that might be a designed effect.)

We’ve got an anniversary to celebrate. May 19, 2012 was the first ever Psycho Circus/Consejo trios title match. Two years of these matches! I hope someone brings out a birthday cake. Adding Hijo del Fantasma to the group means they’ve managed to slightly change the lineup every TV time, but the match itself never changes. (K-Changon being listed here means he’s probably not meant to be with Anarquia on the previous taping – either he’s listed in the wrong match or the rudos are meant to be swapped.)

Aerostar was previously announced as working in UK on 05/25. This was announced last month, so AAA should be aware of it – like with Bengala, maybe not all the decision makers know what’s going on, but I’m certain someone does. If Aerostar really wasn’t going to the UK, AAA could’ve knocked that down a while ago. They have not. They’ve just listed him here, confusing the issue and making it confusing for fans of Aerostar on either side of the Atlantic.

(I think he’s working the UK and being replaced here. And I think AAA won’t bother saying anything because no one holds the responsible for this sort of thing so why should they care.)

Now I get it: AAA is booking Axel like he’s an exciting cruiserweight luchador. He’s not and I have no idea where they got this idea, but that’s clearly the idea. TIP FOR VIDEO MONTAGE CREATOR: there’s some footage of Axel challenging Daga from a year ago that the people in charge totally forgot about, but you can make good use of here. Let me know if you need help tracking down the taping.

That tercera is a multiman, not a trios. They sometimes list more “vs” to indicate multiman but sometimes don’t; they did it both ways on the Rey de Reyes poster. As listed, and with Axel not messing things up, it had a chance to be one of the best matches of the year. It now depends on who replaces Aerostar (and, at least to me, if they understand their own rules.) Or everyone else can leave and Daga and Bengala Marvin can face off, because that will be very good.

Next taping is 06/07, Vernao de Escandalo in Orizaba. AAA’s new practice seems to be releasing TV lineups a couple days after the latest taping, so we probably won’t see that until 05/19.

AAA on Televisa: 2014-04-12

recap

death by kip up

taped 2014-03-29 @ Parque de Beisbol Praxedis Balboa, Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas
Mascarita Sagrada & Octagoncito vs Mini Murder Clown & Mini Psycho Clown: It seemed like a while since we’ve seen Mini Murder Clown on TV, then I went and checked and realized he hasn’t made it since November 2011! He’s gotten much better in the last two years. He did almost kill Octagoncito near the end, but he oveacheived and so did this match. A good nine minute match where everyone got their moments and nothing went too bad. I didn’t have much expectations for this because Mini Psycho Circus wasn’t impressive when they were last on TV and Sagrada has his own problems, but the rudos looked impressive on offense and the comedy bit early on was nice. There wasn’t a lot of attention to it, but Mini Psycho Clown seemed to be wearing a Mini Chessman tribute outfit for the night.

Fenix goes coast to coast

Chessman, Daga, Steve Pain vs Alan Stone, Drago, Fénix: Presumably here to build up Alan Stone (reverted back to his previous gimmick), unfortunate that Alan Stone looked like the least impressive técnico and won only because Chessman kept insisting on going to the top rope for no particular reason. Drago and Fenix were and looked good, while Alan was just kind of a guy. All three needed the help of the rudos, but it was more evident the rudos were just taking big bumps for Alan. It didn’t feel like the rudos got a whole lot, but were fine with what they did and Steve Pain sure sent Fenix a long way on the monkey flip.

Fenix tornillo

Demon says hello

Blue Demon Jr., Cibernético, La Parka vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Parka Negra II, Zorro: Usual AAA main event, brawling start into a long técnico showcase. Zorro and Parka Negra did most of the work, as usual. This format was kind of invented for Cibernético and Parka and wasn’t what Demon usually does, but he fit in okay. Cibernético did a kip up, which would’ve been more impressive if he didn’t have two people to hold him up. Taking Zorro’s back suplex and curb stomp was more unexpected; Cibernético ended up losing completely clean to Zorro.

05/17 AAA TV Lineup (Tapachula) – likely debuts for Sin Cara & Averno

AAA TV (SAT) 05/17/2014 Palenque de la Feria Mesoamericana, Tapachula, Chiapas
1) Ludxor, Niño Hamburguesa, Venum vs Carta Brava Jr., El Apache, Fresero Jr.
2) Faby Apache, Jennifer Blake, Mascarita Sagrada, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Mamba, Mini Abismo Negro, Sexy Star, Taya Valkyrie
3) Alan Stone, Axel, El Elegido vs Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Texano Jr.
4) Monsther Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown vs Daga, Eterno, Steve Pain
Anarquia will have someone named K-Changon with them
5) ?, Cibernético, Fénix vs ???, Chessman, Pentagón Jr.

Air Date: 05/31

The mystery spots in the main event are obviously designed to introduce Sin Cara and Averno. Chessman, Pentagon Jr. and Averno are the three best people to work with Sin Cara at this point. The only missing piece is actually announcing the names. It seems like they should ahead of time – the whole idea of Sin Cara touring around the last couple weeks is selling tickets based on his name (and Averno) alone. AAA does love their surprises, and it’s always possible they still haven’t come up with the replacement name. Or it could all fall thru between now and then.

This is one of the bigger buildings AAA’s run this year – listed as 7500 capacity when it was opened last year – and they’re not guaranteed a sell out just by showing up. They ran here only last month – with Sin Cara! – and half filled it up.

The main event looks like it’ll create a lot of news. The rest of the show seems like they’re killing time. No ongoing feuds in matches, though the third and fourth matches look obvious to end with Texano and Psycho Clown costing each other matches.

Anarquia getting a mascot is a peculiar idea. They’re meant to be serious and a small man following them around doesn’t fit that image.

This is a five match show, so one match has to be cut. I’m guessing it’s the tercera, because it’s bizarre group of tecnicos. I’m back to not understanding why Axel is here when there are people who are over, can have a good match, or are both over and can have a good match who aren’t around. Elegido and Alan Stone can at least do their dance and get a reaction, though they don’t have a great use for that. I’m not sure why the Alan Stone/Chessman bit was started to stop for at least a month, but that’s normal for AAA.

Opener would be really good with just about everyone but Nino Hamburguesa. He’s also over exposed for a guy who needs to improve.

Next taping is a week later, but will be announced later today.

Escorpion keeps his title, tag title match scratched, luchadora benefit show

CMLL (MON) 05/05/2014 Arena Puebla [Periodico Enfoque]
1) Meyer & Paris b Ares & Guerrero Espacial
2) Canelo Casas, El Rebelde, Flyer, Hechicero, Star Jr. b Asturiano, Blue Center, King Jaguar, Tigre Rojo Jr., Toro Bill Jr. [cibernetico]
Puebla vs Gen14. Hechiero defeated King Jaguar for the win. Asturiano was hurt in the match and strecheted out.
3) Boby Zavala, Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora b Black Panther, Cachorro, Stigma
Black Panther replaced Blue Panther.
4) Rey Bucanero, Ripper, Shocker b Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Rush
Rey Bucanero replaced Negro Casas. Ripper beat Azul to set up a title match next week.
5) Rey Escorpión b La Máscara [CMLL LH]
Escorpion won with a powerbomb. Appears worked as normal (Mascara not playing rudo.) Rey Escorpion’s 9th defense.

Blue Panther is also off Sunday’s card in Guadalajara. Mexico City’s not sending a replacement; Esfinge and Maximo move up spots and Exterminador’s added to the card.

CMLL pulled Friday’s tag team title match. All four luchadors – Rush, La Mascara, Negro Casas and Mr. Niebla – are off the card. A minis match has been added as the segunda, with the Marco Corleone match now taking place after the En Busca de un Idolo matches.

There’s no explanation of why the match has been pulled. Rob threw out the guess that the luchadors may be suspended for their weapon antics by the Mexico City lucha commission. It appears some weapon usage (Peste Negra’s garbage can) is okay. The pictures showed Niebla using a small wooden ramp and Rush using a chair, which is out of the ordinary. Negro Casas did not appear last night in Puebla, which could be related, but Ripper wrestled as scheduled and Sombra hasn’t been pulled from his Sunday title match. (Maybe only certain people were suspended?) This could also be some angle CMLL hasn’t gotten around to explaining – it’s always hard to tell. The best test of something being up is tonight’s show – Negro Casas should be their coaching, and Mr. Niebla should be on the judging panel. Something may be up if they don’t appear, otherwise it may just be a strange change of plans.

Sagrado replaces Mistico and Rey Bucanero replaces Euforia tonight in Arena Mexico. That messes with the main event a little bit, since it seemed a straight Guerreros/Atlantida trios match to set up a trios title match and they’ll need Euforia for that. En Busca de un Idolo matches tonight are Super Halcon Jr. vs Hechicero and Star Jr. vs Cavernario. CMLL’s preview is here.

Mistico says his operation went okay but he was in so much pain he couldn’t sleep, and then posted a photo of one his 15 road burns. It sounds like he’s doing okay and in a good mood, so the painkillers must be working.

Aeroboy submitted Tony Casanova on Chilanga Mask’s stop in Rosarito. Mr. Maldito & Platino defeated Los Traumas in the rematch and the Traumas demanded a rematch on their homeground in June. Meanwhile, Zeuxis vs Chik Tormenta has been added to 05/25 Chilanga Mask show and Zeuxis is interviewed in DiarioBasta.

Rob has highlights of 02/11/14 CMLL.

Rocky Santana & Romano Garcia vs Bombero Infernal & El Gallego in a super libre match main events Arena Lopez Mateos this Saunday.

SuperLuchas says there are more matches featuring wrestlers from previous generations than ever, and argues it’s because the matches are more popular. I would argue that it’s because there are just more wrestlers who’ve aged into being from a previous generation but haven’t stopped wrestling than ever.

I guess we’ll find out if they’re popular enough – there’s a plan to debut a new promotion named Leyendas Inmortales de Lucha Libre at 05/18 in Coliseo Coacalco. It’s the usual assortment of 80s-90s names, and they really should have no problem filling up that arena. No matches are announced yet, but they do plan to run Plan Sexenal on 06/01 as a tribute to El Dandy. I wonder if that’ll be the latest last Dandy match. (I’m not upset about that, just find it hilarious.)

Atlantis defeated Ultimo Guerrero by DQ for the Lucha Azteca championship, which continued it’s streak of always changing hands.

Lady Flammer won the Copa LLF Juvenil for the second straight year.

Crazy Star (Veracruz) lost his hair in a four way extreme match.

DJ Spectro writes about Medico Asesino vs Polo Torres in a mask versus cash match.

Lineups

X La Lucha (FRI) 05/09/2014 Monumento a la Revolución, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal
1) La Magnifica vs La Diabólica del Caribe, Paloma Rouse, Big Mama, Yuca La Potranquita, Keira, La Hielera, Dama de Hierro, Princesa Dorada [cibernetico]
2) Cinthia Moreno, Esther Moreno, Lola Gonzalez vs La Chola, Miss Janeth, Tania La Guerrillera
3) Lady Apache vs Rossy Moreno

There was a press conference to promote this show show yesterday. It’s a benefit show for other luchadoras; Pantera Surena is specifically mentioned as needing help. I’m uncertain how you raise money on an outdoor show which appears to be free – there’s something I’m missing here, but it sounds like a good cause.

IWRG (SUN) 05/11/2014 Arena Naucalpan
1) Alfa & Omega vs Fulgor I & Fulgor II
2) Ángel Del Amor, Astro Rey Jr., Metaleon vs Araña de Plata, Hip Hop Man, Imposible
3) Dr. Cerebro, Toscano, Veneno vs Apolo Estrada Jr., El Hijo del Diablo, Eterno
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Danny Casas & Hijo de Máscara Año 2000
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo De Dos Caras, Súper Nova vs Demon Clown, Pirata Morgan, X-Fly
Wagner’s first match here since October. Demon Clown’s debut.

Demon Clown is a mystery. Maybe one of the Clown Corporacion after a typo? Maybe Demon Rocker after a typo? Maybe Demon Clown from Guatemala? Probably not Demon Clown from Guatemala.

CMLL (MON) 05/12/2014 Arena Puebla
1) Black Tiger, Milenium, Tigre Rojo vs Centauro de Fuego, Cholo, Inquisidor
2) Asturiano, Meyer, Tigre Rojo Jr. vs Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pequeño Warrior
3) Blue Panther, Stuka Jr., Tritón vs Cavernario, Ephesto, Misterioso Jr.
4) La Máscara, Super Porky, Volador Jr. vs Gran Guerrero, Niebla Roja, Último Guerrero
5) Diamante Azul vs Ripper [NWA LH]
Diamante Azul is champion, 3rd defense.

I completely forgot Azul held this championship. Segunda is a minis vs tecnicos; sounds like Asturiano is OK enough to be excited for this.
