IWRG (SUN) 03/23/2014 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Hip Hop Man & Látigo b Araña de Plata & Power Bull
Hip Hop Man replaced Latigo, Arana de Plata replaced Power Bull.
2) Alan Extreme & Emperador Azteca b Fulgor II & Imposible
Alan Extreme replaced Hip Hop Man.
3) Black Terry, Centvrión, Dr. Cerebro b Rayan, Spartan, Tony Rivera
Tecnicos took 1/3, Terry using the ropes to beat Rivera.
4) Relámpago, Súper Nova, Veneno b Danny Casas, Oficial 911, Oficial AK47
Tecnicos took 1/3, Veneno feuding with AK47.
5) Hijo De Dos Caras, Máscara Púrpura, Toscano b Canis Lupus, Trauma I, Trauma II
Tecnicos took 2/3.

All tecnico wins. Cerebro loses a tooth, Terry loses some blood but both make a second show that day.

MedioTiempo and Estrellas del Ring have recaps of the ChilangaMask show, and Black Terry Jr. has photos of the match. Both the main event and Terry/Maya are very bloody. The raucous crowd looks like they had fun.

Oswaldo notes there was a recent fundraiser for Camaleon, except Camaleon didn’t know anything about it. That happens way too often on benefit shows. The promoter says he gave the money to Camaleon’s money.

CMLL preview video for Friday.

ChilangaMask, XMW, Maximo/Escorpion, Blue Demon

XMW (SAT) 03/22/2014 Deportivo Oceania, Ciudad de México, Distrito Federal [Black Terry Jr. (flickr)Estrellas del Ring]

4) Mr. Leo b Arez and Belial and Tornado (DF) and Fly Warrior [PDM LH]
Perros del Mal Light Heavyweight Championship, last seen with Super Nova in 2012. Unclear who was supposed to be defending it. Toscano showed up after the match to talk about how great the match was. Crowd liked Arez the best. Toscano gave the youngsters credit for being good.
5) Fly Star & La Magnifica b Ludark Shaitan & Wotan
Ludark & Magnficia are feuding.
6) Impulso b Necro ButcherHellspawn
Deathmatch. Hellspawn is from Chile. Nectro beat Hellspawn, Impulso beat Necro Butcher.

Usual heavy hardcore show. I have no idea why Toscano was there and am sort of concerned about him lately. CMLL needs to hire him back just to keep him out of the tiny shows for young people. Another mystery: There’s an Fulgor anti-fan club? Estrellas recap notes Magnficia versus Ludark is a good idea; indy lucha libre could use a lot more steady rivalries which go from promotion to promotion and get better, and those are probably two of the best luchadoras who constantly work the indies. Kaitlin Diamond (or whichever way I’m supposed t0 be spelling it) is a Canadian woman who’s been hanging tough around here for a few months and must have some great stories.

CHILANGA MASK (SUN) 03/23/2014 Coliseo Coacalco, Coacalco, Estado de México [@terceracaida]
1) Robin (CMLL) b Íkaro [lightning]
2) Astro Rey Jr. & Psico Kid b Fulgor & Karma
Violento match.
3) Freelance b Latin Dragon and Arez and Mike Segura and Golden Magic and Tornado (DF)and Magnifico and Dinamic Black and Zurdog [Copa Tercera Caida]
Third version. List of participants is as announced but unconfirmed.
4) X-Torm & Zarco b Dr. Cerebro & Eterno
Dr. Cerebro lost two teeth after a Zarco chairshot
5) Trauma I & Trauma II b Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Rey Bucanero
Hijo del Pirata replaced Pirata Morgan (working for Tinieblas instead). Piratas demanded a rematch, hair versus masks.
6) Impulso b Máscara Dorada
Replacement match for the trios tag match with the Young Bucks. Mascara Dorada was an addition.
7) Black Terry DQ Guerrero Maya Jr. [super libre]
DQ not specified. Maya demanded a lucha extra match and a mask vs hair match.
8) Negro Navarro & Solar I b Arkángel de la Muerte & Rey Hechicero
9) Titán (CMLL) b Belial
second replacement match for the missing trios tag match.
10) Aero Boy b DJ Hyde and Masada and Kaientai
Deathmatch. Aero Boy was awarded a spot in CZW’s Tournament of Death.

Lots of changes. The big one was the Young Bucks. Matt Jackson announced they were off the show late Saturday night, and implied they didn’t get their deposit. ChilangaMask claimed the flight the Bucks were supposed to come in on was overbooked. Those stories don’t seem to fit together. Rey Cometa did end up on the Arizona show after all, but somehow Mascara Dorada replaced him. I’d guess Dorada is a more expensive guy, so either he was helping out, or CMLL screwed up and sent Dorada as a make good. Or something else happened, I dunno.

Titan vs Belial and Impulso vs Mascara Dorada could both be pretty good. Both the 8 and 10 matches sound like they were very good in their very different styles. Should be more recaps of the show next week.

CMLL (SUN) 03/23/2014 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Yahoo! Deportes]
1) Molotov & Sensei b El Rebelde & Espiritu Negro
2) Pequeño Olímpico & Pequeño Warrior b Fantasy & Último Dragoncito
Turned into a tag match for unknown reasons. Shockercito and Pequeno Nitro were scheduled.
3) Dark Angel, Estrellita, Goya Kong b Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit, Zeuxis
4) Virus b Sagrado [lightning]
Virus submitted Sagrado. Terra feed started working during this match.
5) La Sombra, Super Porky, Valiente b Felino, Olímpico, Ripper
Tecnicos took 2/3.
6) Diamante Azul, Marco Corleone, Máximo DQ Averno, Pólvora, Rey Escorpión
Tecnicos took 2/3, the last when Rey Escorpion was caught fouling Maximo.

No obvious set up for next week, unless Maximo/Rey Escorpion is meant to continue here and isn’t just a global CMLL issue.

Terra’s had reoccurring problems broadcasting from Arena Coliseo. This time was worst than most, and they missed the first 1h15m of the show due to extended technical issues. This was different from Friday; they intended to air the whole show and were recording things as if they were actually airing (and some of the promos will be part of the 52MX and LATV shows.) This was also different in that Terra responded to questions about the status of the broadcast, unlike this past week with the Friday show.

The author of CMLL’s text recap – which didn’t appear until many hours until after the show – is listed as “CMLL”. Hmmm. I have a feeling that if someone didn’t take pictures, there might not have been an official recap of any sort today.

CMLL (SUN) 03/23/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Relampago Azul b Índigo
2) William Rock b Ángel del Mal
Angel del Mal was injured.
3) Demonio Rojo & Évola b El Divino & Virgo
Rudos took 2/3.
4) Smaker b Espectrum
Like all undercard singles matches, this was one fall.
5) Black Metal, León Blanco, Sky Kid b Acertijo, Demonio Maya, Maléfico
Tecnicos took 1/3.
6) Black Panther, Blue Panther, Cachorro b Puma, Tiger, Vangellys
Panthers took 1/3 in a good match.

A show.

Konnan had a lot to say about Rey de Reyes on this week’s MLW Radio show.

He explained a bit about the two big missing people: Juvi and Blue Demon Jr. Juvi’s the easy one – he’s got a fracture in a foot. That sucks. Demon’s issue is a lot more tricky. Blue Demon Jr. told AAA that he’s applying for US residency, and must stay in the US 3 months as part of it. That would definitely explain why Demon wants the story quiet, but… Konnan: “I don’t know if that story is true.” MSL asked if Demon gave AAA any warning, and Demon said he wasn’t going to know if he couldn’t make until a couple days before the shows and only confirmed he’d be off the day prior. Konnan doesn’t think that made a lot of sense, but gave credit to Demon for sending the video and says Demon will be on the Ciudad Victoria show (next Saturday) to hand over the belt. Demon won’t be if that three month rule is correct, because he wrestled in Toluca on 01/30 and wouldn’t have spent 3 months in the United States until the start of May. Either everyone in AAA can’t do simple math or there’s a part of the story that didn’t get explained. People in AAA can do simple math. Konnan expressed displeasure about how tough Demon has been to work with; Demon shows up late and leaves early, and they have to fly him in all the way from Florida. Konnan does give Demon credit for sending in videos when asked.

Elegido’s abcense was not mentioned, but it would be grossly out of character for Konnan to be concerned with Elegido. It seems strange on the surface that Konnan has a problem with Demon when the Jarretts are appearing to do the same exact thing (flying in, arriving late, leaving early), but I think it speaks more to how different sees Demon as compared to the Jarretts. And those two have found time to do the occasional pretape.

If you’ve been following along with his thoughts about AAA this year, you would not be surprised by any of statement on Rey de Reyes itself. AAA is on fire, according to Konnan. They’re doing fantastic, “we got our competition off TV”, none of your criticisms are valid and you have no idea how tough a job it is for him would be a good summary of a few minute stretch. Konnan feels Rey de Reyes would’ve sold out if it was sunny, becuase “they’re hotter than they were last year.” Konnan felt most of the matches were good, with Chessman/Villano IV surprising him to be the best on the show, but the last two weren’t good. Konnan explains the Jarrett matches are never intended to be matches (good or otherwise), but angles designed to get a big reaction from the crowd and they accomplished that. Konnan feels they have to do a better job of protecting La Parka and it didn’t sound like he was happy with how that was done in the Rey de Reyes final. The decision for Parka to win might have been influenced by the two no-shows; Konnan says AAA knew the missing people would give ammo to their detractors, so they wanted to make sure to send the fans home happy.

In random notes, Nino Hamburguesa was supposed to toss his hamburger out to the crowd after escaping the ring, but forget his hamburger in the back. (One of the helper guys should’ve brought it! I can see it now, Australian Suicide luring Nino up the ladder by teasing him with the hamburger.) Konnan dismissed Rey Misterio Jr.’sIn a response to a mailbag question, Konnan says he’d put the world heavyweight title on a exotico if the right one came along, but doesn’t think any one in the company is the right one. And Konnan mentions he was planned to win the 2006 Rey de Reyes, but jokes he changed the plans when he saw the winner (eventually Vampiro) was going to get a tiara as a crown.

Sin Cara had a typically fun weekend. When HuniCara posting on Twitter about being a part of the Scooby Doo movie, Sin Cara Uno responded by angrily calling him a Fraude and CCing every McMahon he could think of. He deleted the message later. Sin Cara was also promoted the 05/04 show in Monterrey, the same shows he was insisting were fabrications a few weeks ago. Funny how that worked out.

This week’s Super Libre had interviews with Vangellys & Akuma in studio, plus more taped from H2L.

Lineup

CMLL (SUN) 03/30/2014 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Raycko vs El Piraña
Spelled as Reycko – changed the spelling in his six weeks between matches?
2) El Tapatío & Explosivo vs Furia Nazi & Satara
3) El Brillante & Javier Cruz vs Exterminador & Infierno
4) León Blanco vs Ráfaga
5) Gallo & Leo vs Camorra & Maléfico
6) La Sombra, Sagrado, Super Porky vs Mephisto, Misterioso Jr., Pólvora

It looks like El Tapatio might have be declared a tecnico back on 03/02, but I didn’t notice because Guadalajara young guys can be inconsistent about such matters. Camorra in the semimain is odd, both because Camorra in general but because CMLL usually sends six on Sundays and he’s #7. You don’t suppose he’s found a new place to feud with a local tecnico to set up an apuesta match, do you?
