CMLL on CadenaTres: 2014-02-15

Somehow, this had all the gifs too.

balance is overrated

recap

taped 2014-02-11 @ Arena México
Leono & Magnus vs Akuma & Zayco: Working under the impression Leono was gifted new gear, because why would he bother trying at this point? Zayco totally agrees with me. (It is nice gear.) I would recommend him to stop trying holds which cause him to fall down while trying to put it on. This was an normal opener with worse than normal moments, including whenever Akuma was trying to do that Magnus wanted no part of. Magnus’ completely random RKO (and elbow drop?) was kind of great. Zayco walking into the ring, then going out the other side instead for breaking up the pin, was even better and just amazing in his inability to care. This was not good.

Guerrero Negro + gravity

Dragon Lee, Flyer, Robin vs Canelo Casas, Guerrero Negro Jr., Herodes Jr.: OK. Match was better when the rudos were beating up the técnicos; técnicos did (some) flashier things, but the rudos seemed more in control. Comeback had plenty of minor issues. Robin’s timing was off, people were standing around for no reason, and Flyer’s finish didn’t look so good. Crowd was generally anti-tecnico but really turned on the match after that fall. Robin’s been around a lot longer than his two teammates but has no better timing than they do. Two straight matches with someone using a Volador finishing move to win.

#sexyteam

Dark Angel, Estrellita, Goya Kong vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sugheit: This was a lot of fun. Técnicas were high energy and fun and work together well, and the rudas did a great job stooging around for them. First fall was outstanding and the other two were strong too. This is a match with a lot of amusing ifs, but it held together as a match as well. Best CMLL women’s trios in some time, and they need to run this back again in front of a bigger crowd (Dos Leyendas?)

double slide to the floor!

Atlantis, Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Averno, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero: Good trios match. Reyes del Atlantida are always good in trios, and getting to be one more often of late, but the rudos worked well despite not normally working together. Averno feuded well with Atlantis thru out, which worked out fine because apparently Mephisto & Rey Bucanero had team team moves they had been waiting so long to pull out. Who knew? Averno is notoriously unlucky when left alone in the ring with guys who have trademark submission moves, but the team managed to overcome in the third.

Mr. Niebla. I dunno.

Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs La Máscara, Rush, Titán: Main event was a bit on the short side, and focused a lot on Negro Casas versus Rush instead of the over all trios feud. That singles feud is still really good and the other guys looked good in what they got to do, it worked okay. It would’ve been nice to see more than five seconds of the crowd brawl, and I’m hoping Dos Leyendas airs live to avoid such editing issues. I’m also hoping Zacarias gets out of timeout, or whatever, and doesn’t have to sit on the stairs for matches. Maybe he was just tired of Mascara kicking him in the head.

never let up on Rush
