Torneo Increible de Parejas Block A, Mil Mascaras replaces Blue Demon, Octagon

CMLL’s Friday night show is headlined by another Shocker versus Rush trios match to build towards Dos Leyendas. Shocker teams with Terrible and Euforia (replacing Mr. Niebla) while Rush has Marco & Atlantis on his side. Shocker has worked at being a much more hatebable rudo than Negro Casas, and the Arena Mexico crowd has started to actually cheer Rush. The result of the main event doesn’t matter much but it’ll be interesting to see if they can keep that trend going (and if the casual fans coming inf or Dos Leyendas totally reverse it.)

The big event on the show is the first block of the Torneo Increible de Parejas, which may or may not air on Terra.mx tonight. Valiente & Vangellys, Titan & Felino and Polvora & Rey Cometa would be very unlikely finalists, but there are good cases for the other five teams.

  • Mistico & Reaper is the up and down team who could have an up week (or at least pull one upset)
  • Dragon Rojo Jr. & La Mascara are the team of upper level guys who win more than people expect
  • Volador Jr. & Averno are former partners (though not a famous partnership)
  • Maximo & Rey Escorpion are the feuding pair who could go to the final before breaking up
  • La Sombra & Ultimo Guerrero are the guys (inconsistently) treated as the #1 tecnico and the #1 rudo and were in the finals last year.

My hunch is Maximo & Escorpion, but I think it’s wide open.

Blue Demon’s off this weekend’s WWL shows due to family reasons. He posted a message about it on YouTube. WWL announced Mil Mascaras will take Demon’s place in Xalapa (Friday) and Mexico City (Sunday). Demon was supposed to face Monster Pain for the WWL Heavyweight Championship title. Monster Pain has had poor matches, Mil Mascaras at 71 is going to have poor matches, that combination may set some records. Also, Mil’s not losing and WWL is not going to make Mil champion; this is the makings of something epic. (And maybe something that’ll be changed by the time they get to Mexico City.)

There were supposed to be three WWL shows, though only two are mentioned in the press release. A reply on WWL’s Facebook reveals “the city canceled” the Teziutlan, Puebla show on Saturday. The press release does mention various WWL luchadors will be signing autographs on Saturday instead. That’s not a promising sign for WWL’s business side, but WWL does not seem preoccupied by it’s business side.

Octagon told MedioTiempo says he and the Roldans reached a deal to allow him to continue using the Octagon name on the independents. He mentions WWL, FULL (Tinieblas) and TxT as promotions he’s working with. There’s been no mention of TxT for a while, but they did previously say they’d have a show in March.

Estrellas del Ring posts interviews with X-Fly, Astro Rey Jr. (who will face the Clown Corp) and WWL owner Richard Negrin to promote the WWL show,  and also with Crazy Boy, Angel O Demonio and Super Mega to promote the DTU show on Saturday.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and a recap of this week’s Tercera Caida.

Tigre Uno’s TNA PPV debut match will now be against Maniak (Havana Brother Puma, Sydistiko I, TJP). It’s in a cage, because it’s their all cage match show.

R de Rudo has video of Peste Negra versus La Mascara, Maximo and Mascara Sagrada Jr. from Neza.

Dinastia and Elegido talk about being in the Rey de Reyes opener.

Cronicas y Leyendas says 70s Sicodelico was a lot better than 80s Sicodelico.
