Cavernario and Niebla win Gran Alternativa, Shocker vs Casas vs Rush, Park/Wagner in Philly

CMLL (FRI) 02/14/2014 Arena Mexico [CMLL, LuchaWorld]
1) Molotov & Oro Jr. b Artillero & Súper Comando
Oro and Molotov had some slips. Tecnicos took 2/3.
2) Misterioso Jr., Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura b Fuego, Pegasso, Starman
Rudos took 2/3.
3) Dalys b Marcela [lightning]
Dalys won clean with a camel clutch, after surviving the top rope double stop (by grabbing the ropes.) Better match than expected. Dalys demanded a title shot, but Marcela refused, telling Dalys to earn it and throwing the microphone at her.
4) Blue Panther, Rush, Super Porky b Felino, Negro Casas, Shocker
Straight falls. Panther & Porky took the first, and Shocker blatantly fouled Rush in the third. Negro Casas and Shocker had problems in the match, pushing each other away from Rush so they could fight him instead, though they never fought each other. Shocker demanded the hair match, but Rush said no.
5) Cavernario & Mr. Niebla b Soberano Jr. & Volador Jr. [Gran Alternativa, final]
Match came down to Niebla and Volador, but Cavernario snuck into give Volador a backcracker to set up the win.
6) Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero b Máscara Dorada, Mistico, Valiente
Rudos took 2/3, UG stealing Mistico’s mask and pinning him.

Apuesta matches don’t happen when one person challenges for them, or when both agree to them, or even when all the people involve sign a piece of paper saying they’ll do the match no fooling. They happen when the people involved start declaring a specific date for the match to occur. I think Negro Casas vs Rush vs Shocker is probably at happening at Dos Leyendas, but they’ve been careful not to say “Dos Leyendas” in the challenges. There’s still an escape hatch until they do.

It’s possible Dalys and Marcela might also end up in a hair match, but they’re only pushing back the women’s title match for the moment. You’d think beating Marcela in a singles match would be good enough to get her a title match, but apparently the random trios matches are more important?

Sparse details on the tournament final, but Doradafan found some video clips of it and the main event.

AAA says their show will start at 3:15 today. Fox Sports has bumped the CMLL show (second block of Gran Alternativa) to 4-5pm today.

Masked Republic and Extreme Rising are running a lucha libre show at the former ECW Arena on 04/27. They’ve announced Dr. Wagner Jr. vs LA Park and have Damian 666, Bestia 666, Solar, Negro Navarro, Sabu, Casandro, Pierrothito, and Christina Von Eerie for the show. More details will be announced on 02/18.

Rob has highlights of 11/26/13 CMLL.

Eric R @ Segunda Caida reviews Lucha Azteca 02/08/14.

An Arena Queretaro tournament for the vacant local light heavyweight title show set up Drabek I vs Drabek II for their next show.

Tickets for the WWL show in DF will run between 150 and 400 Mexican Pesos.

Another article on Histeria, Alebrije, and Cuije claiming rights to those names. To them, this is a story about how they own those names. To me, it’s a story about the lack of impact CMLL has on casual fans and promoters. In an alternate universe where WWE would let their guys work indies, I can’t imagine Cesaro doing interviews about promoters being allowed to book him him as Claudio Castignoli.

Lineup

CMLL (FRI) 02/21/2014 Arena Mexico
1) Camaleón & Leono vs Akuma & Guerrero Negro Jr.
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Último Dragoncito vs Demus 3:16, Mercurio, Pequeño Olímpico
3) Dark Angel, Marcela, Silueta vs Amapola, Dalys, Zeuxis
4) Diamante Azul vs Terrible [lightning]
5) Cavernario, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero vs Soberano Jr., Valiente, Volador Jr.
6) Marco Corleone, Máximo, Rush vs Felino, Negro Casas, Shocker

Bufete del Amor reunites to take on Rush’s two rivals (and also Felino.) I don’t know if CMLL is going to announce something or not at the end of the mach, but I’d suggest waiting a week. If any lucha story is going to be covered to mass audiences next Saturday, it’s probably going to be one from the AAA show and there’s no sense in getting lost in their wake.

The overall card suggests CMLL is not aware or concerned about AAA running a show cross town the same night. There’s nothing special on this card. Both the Gran Alternativa winner and loser end in the same semifinal (perhaps due to the lack of any midcard men’s trios match, but it makes the tournament look irrelevant.) I have unsually high hopes for the women’s match.
